Season series: Celtics lead 2-0

Boston won its 7th consecutive game on Wednesday night, 122-119 over the Milwaukee Bucks. They failed to cover as a 10-point favorite and the Over (226) cashed. SF Jayson Tatum crossed the 30-point threshold (31) for the 3rd time in his last 4 games and PG Derrick White added 23.

The Pistons began a 3-game homestand on Wednesday night with a 122-103 loss to the Indiana Pacers, failing to cover as an 11-point underdog while the Under (235) cashed. PG Cade Cunningham collected his 14th double-double (23 points and 10 assists) and the sophomore breakout season of C Jalen Duren continued with his 39th double-double (11 points and 12 rebounds). Celtics at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Celtics 124, Pistons 109

Moneyline

PASS.

The Celtics (-1000) will win this game, but you should never bet 10 units to win 1 back. You should save your bet for the spread and/or the total.

Against the spread

BET CELTICS -13.5 (-105).

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that Boston is the far superior team and should on paper wipe the floor with the Pistons. The Celtics have covered the spread in 5 of their last 6 matchups with Detroit including on Monday night. They are also above .500 on the road covering the spread.

The Pistons have failed to cover in 3 of their last 4. They are just playing out the string with 13 games to go before the Pistons can look forward to possibly winning the NBA Lottery.

Over/Under

PASS.

I hate to cop out on this, but I really don’t see an edge in this game when it comes to the total. These two are 5-3-2 against the Over in their last 10  meetings. If I had a lean, it would be the Under because it has cashed in Detroit’s last 6 games.

PASS on the money line. The Celtics are playing far too well to lose two straight games to one of the worst teams in the league.

Boston Celtics at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Boston Celtics at Detroit Pistons odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The surging Boston Celtics (28-25) will visit the Detroit Pistons (12-39) Friday night, seeking to extend their winning streak to four games. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m. ET from Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Below, we look at the Celtics vs. Pistons odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Celtics have won their last three games and five of their last six, most recently beating the Pelicans, Heat and Hornets. Against the Hornets, PG Marcus Smart and SG Josh Richardson led the way with 22 and 23 points, respectively, while SF Jayson Tatum dropped 19 on just 6-for-16 shooting. The Celtics just barely missed covering the 6.5-point spread, but they’re still 4-2 ATS in their last six games.

The Pistons come in having lost their last two games, including a 128-117 loss to the Timberwolves Thursday night. They’re now just 2-8 in their last 10 games and have sunk 27 games below .500 on the year. PG Frank Jackson was the team’s leading scorer Thursday, pouring in 25 points, making 5 of his 11 3-point attempts. He was one of three players with 20-plus points, along with SF Jerami Grant (20) and PF Saddiq Bey (21).

Celtics at Pistons odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Celtics 110, Pistons 99

Money line

The Celtics have turned things around as of late after struggling in December. They’ve won five of their last six games, four of which were by double-digits. Each of the Pistons’ last three losses has been by at least 10 points, including a 16-point loss to the Magic in a game they were only 3.5-point underdogs in.

I like the Celtics to win this game, but I’m not willing to lay down a wager with the money line sitting at -520. I would PASS.

Against the spread

The Celtics are 4-2 ATS in their last six games, while the Pistons have only covered once in their last four games. The Celtics haven’t covered in any of their last four games against the Pistons, but I think that changes tonight in Detroit.

Bet the CELTICS -9.5 (-110) to cover the spread and keep their hot streak alive. The Pistons are also playing the second half of a back-to-back, which makes this even more favorable for Boston despite being on the road.

Over/Under

In the Celtics’ last six games, the Under is 5-1. They’ve been inconsistent offensively in the last week or so, scoring just 92 points against the Hawks Jan. 28, but dropping 122 against Miami two games later. Much of that depends on the shooting of Tatum, who has been streaky.

Bet the UNDER 214.5 (-108) tonight.
