There is a chance that we could see a massive change to the NFL playoffs as early as the upcoming season, as the league is expected to make seven teams eligible for the playoffs, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
There are several changes to be expected, but the biggest occurrence would be the potential for the playoffs to expand to seven teams in each conference as opposed to six teams per conference.
If this newly proposed playoff system was in place during the past decade, the Chargers would have made the postseason in 2010 and 2017 when they finished with 9-7 records
With the potential new playoff format, only one team would get a bye as opposed to two teams having a bye. Teams with a first-round bye will also receive pay during that week off, which wasn’t the case with the current CBA.
Nothing is official yet, but when everything is set in stone, the playoff system is going to be completely different than what it is like now.
