Shedrick Jackson on Cam Newton: ‘he’s still got it’

Auburn’s Heisman Trophy-winning QB impressed many during Pro Day last week, including wide receiver Shedrick Jackson.

Auburn football held its annual Pro Day on Tuesday in an effort to give some of their most talented draft-eligible players the chance to impress NFL scouts ahead of April’s draft.

One surprise attendee was 2010 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback [autotag]Cam Newton[/autotag].

Newton, who has not played in the NFL since 2021, participated in Auburn’s Pro Day in hopes that he would make an impression on NFL scouts so that he could potentially return to the league. One of the players who caught passes from Newton believes that he can still earn a spot on a professional roster.

“That was fun,” Auburn wide receiver Shedrick Jackson said of Newton. “That was probably my most favorite part, just learning his lingo, seeing his cadence. He’s got good touch on the ball. … I think he’s still got it.”

Newton’s younger brother, [autotag]Caylin Newton[/autotag], also participated in Auburn’s Pro Day. He says that his older brother is continuing to work hard to stay in play shape, and knows any franchise that gives him a chance will be getting a competitor.

“He doesn’t owe anybody anything. He has had an amazing journey, an amazing career in the NFL. He has nothing to prove to anybody. … He came to show his ability, show he still has it,” Caylin Newton said of his older brother. “I think, for him, this was a selfless act. But it was also to show and prove to everybody he’s not sitting around. He’s still got it. Whatever organization wants to get a winning quarterback, his number’s still open and available.”

In 11 professional seasons, Newton has passed for 32,382 yards and 194 touchdowns. He has also won an MVP award and led the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl in 2015.

Tigers of the Game from Auburn’s win over Georgia State

Here are your Tigers of the game from Saturday’s win.

It was closer than it should have been but Auburn was able to pull out a win thanks to a 98-yard drive led by T.J. Finley.

Finley entered in relief of a struggling Bo Nix and led the game-winning drive. The chance was far from seamless but Auburn’s quarterback position may now be an open competition.

Auburn was projected to win by multiple scores against the Panthers but was in a two-score deficit at the half.

The quarterback change sparked some energy throughout the team and the fans at Jordan-Hare Stadium

Cam Newton’s younger brother is transferring to Auburn

The Tigers have a Newton again.

The Auburn Tigers have themselves a new Newton on board 10 years after Cam led the Auburn Tigers to a BCS National Championship out of nowhere.

This time, it’s his brother Caylin. In the midst of a rough final season as the Bison quarterback, he announced he’d be transferring once the season was over. Newton only played in four games for the Bison in the 2019-20 season. He graduated from Howard but still has two years of eligibility left.

The newly minted Tigers’ quarterback announced his final transfer decision on Friday night via Twitter.

Newton finished his Howard career with 58 total touchdowns and 32 interceptions. Certainly, he isn’t his brother, but Auburn sure will take him.
