Denver Broncos Foundation to sponsor training of service dog

This will be the third service dog the Denver Broncos Foundation will have sponsored and placed with a veteran.

November is a time when the NFL celebrates the brave men and women who serve and have served the United States in the armed forces.

Now, the Denver Broncos will look to give back to a veteran through its partnership with K9s for Warriors.

“The Denver Broncos Foundation, through the support of Owner and Board Chair Carrie Walton Penner and Head Coach Sean Payton, will sponsor the training of a new service dog in continuation of their partnership with K9s For Warriors,” the team said in a statement on Wednesday.

“K9s For Warriors is honored to once again partner with Coach Payton and the Denver Broncos Foundation,” said Lindsay Grayson, Chief Revenue Officer at K9s For Warriors. “The dog will kick off his training in Broncos Country, attending his first game and meeting fans. He will then go on to save a military veteran’s life. We want to thank the Broncos for believing in our mission of saving lives at both ends of the leash.”

Carrie Walton Penner and Sean Payton also spearheaded the team’s sponsoring of two service dogs last year. Those dogs, Bucky and Thunder, have since graduated the training program.

 “K9s For Warriors is a nonprofit organization that is committed to ending veteran suicide and provides highly trained service dogs to military veterans suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury and other invisible wounds of war,” the Broncos said in a statement.

“Dedicated to saving not just one life, but two, K9s For Warriors rescues a majority of their dogs for its service dog program, allowing both the K9 and veteran to build an unwavering bond that facilitates their collective healing and recovery. On average, they pair up to 16 veterans with service dogs each month. To date, the organization has rescued more than 2,000 dogs and paired nearly 1,000 veterans with lifesaving service dogs.”

Broncos ownership has donated the most to politics (by far) among NFL owners

Broncos ownership has donated more than $17.8 million to political candidates and causes this election cycle, by far most among NFL owners.

The Denver Broncos have the richest ownership group in the NFL by far — and perhaps the most generous.

Broncos co-owner Rob Walton, a Walmart heir, donated more than $16.5 million to political candidates and causes from Jan. 1 last year to Oct. 1 this year, according to Tom Schad of USA TODAY Sports.

The next-highest donations amount this election cycle among NFL owners was $3,328,000 donated by Atlanta Falcons owner Authur Blank.

Greg Penner, Denver’s controlling owner and CEO, donated $171,500, eighth-most among NFL owners. His wife, Broncos co-owner Carrie Walton Penner, donated $1,064,900, fifth-most among league owners.

Rob Walton and Greg Penner donated primarily to Republican causes. Carrie Walton Penner donated $1 million to a Democratic political action committee.

The Walton-Penner family purchased the Broncos for $4.65 billion in 2022. They later added three minority owners to the ownership group.

Broncos sponsor training for two ‘K9s for Warriors’ service dogs

The Broncos will sponsor the training of Bucky and Thunder, K9s For Warriors service dogs who will be paired with a veteran in need.

The Denver Broncos will sponsor the training of two service dogs in partnership with the K9s For Warriors organization. Spearheaded by Broncos owner Carrie Walton Penner and head coach Sean Payton, the sponsorship of the two dogs will help retired military veterans. The sponsored dogs are two 11-month-old black Labrador brothers named Bucky and Thunder.

Allie Engelken, the Broncos Vice President of Community Impact, stated how exciting this partnership will be.

“Through the leadership and support of Owner and Foundation Board Chair Carrie Walton Penner and Head Coach Sean Payton, we are excited to sponsor the training of Bucky and Thunder,” Engelken said in a press release.

“Affectionately named after two iconic Denver mascots, we are excited to see them grow into passionate and hard-working service dogs that will create a lasting impact on a Colorado veteran’s life.”

K9s For Warriors is a nonprofit organization that is committed to helping end veteran suicide while providing highly trained service dogs to military veterans who have PTSD and traumatic brain injury. Congrats to the Broncos for landing this partnership.

Denver Broncos Foundation donates $1 million to Café Momentum

The Broncos donated $1 million to Café Momentum, a restaurant and culinary training facility that hires youth exiting juvenile detention.

The Denver Broncos Foundation just took a huge step in terms of helping the social climate for our youth. Earlier this week, the Foundation donated $1 million to Café Momentum, an award-winning restaurant and culinary training facility.

Café Momentum makes an effort to hire youth exiting juvenile detention and employs them as paid interns. In this internship, the youth have the opportunity to run all aspects of the business.

“We are thrilled to announce this strategic partnership with Café Momentum in an effort to comprehensively serve justice-involved youth in the Metro Denver Area,” Denver Broncos Foundation Executive Director Allie Engelken said in a statement.

“With the dedicated support of Owner and Board Chair Carrie Walton Penner, the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group and entire board of directors, the Foundation is committed to deepening educational and economic opportunities and pathways for all youth beyond high school.”

With the donation, this will help Café Momentum provide more services including case management, education, mental health and workforce development. Congrats to all parties involved in this partnership.
