Hurricanes at Maple Leafs picks and predictions

Prediction

Maple Leafs 3, Hurricanes 2

Moneyline

BET MAPLE LEAFS (-120).

Toronto will be desperate to bounce back after scoring just 1 goal and losing its 2nd straight game last time out. The Maple Leafs are 6-1 in their last 7 games after scoring 2 or fewer goals in their previous contest and 16-7 in their last 23 vs. teams with a winning percentage above .600.

Toronto is a tough place to win for visitors as the Maple Leafs are 55-22 in their last 77 home games and it is unlikely that Carolina will hand Toronto its 3rd straight loss.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

The Hurricanes +1.5 (-250) should hit, but Carolina is slightly overvalued on the puck line. Bet the moneyline and/or total instead.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6.5 (-135).

The Under is 6-1-1 in Carolina’s last 8 games after a win and 5-1-1 in its last 7 vs. teams with a winning record.

The Under has gone 4-1-1 in Toronto’s last 6 games after scoring 2 or fewer goals in its previous contest and Friday’s matchup should be another low-scoring affair.

Hurricanes at Maple Leafs projected goalies

Antti Raanta (6-2-1, 2.21 GAA, .914 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Petr Mrazek (5-2-0, 2.94 GAA, .902 SV%)

Raanta turned aside 24 of the 25 shots he faced in a 2-1 win Jan. 29 against the New Jersey Devils in his most recent start. It was his first action after a four-week absence due to an injury.

Raanta is giving All-Star Frederik Andersen a breather after he participated in the festivities in Las Vegas Friday and Saturday.

Mrazek is confirmed to star and give All-Star Jack Campbell extra time to return from Las Vegas and get situated. His most recent appearance was also against the Devils. He relieved Campbell in the first period and allowed 1 goal on 20 shots in 50-plus minutes of work.

Hurricanes at Maple Leafs odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Maple Leafs 4, Hurricanes 3

Money line

The MAPLE LEAFS (-135) are a decent play at this price, as it isn’t terribly out of line. The favorite has cashed in four of the past five games in this series, which favors the home side Monday.

The Leafs have cashed in 21 of their last 29 at home, too, and are a strong play to fire out of the chute after the All-Star break with a victory.

Against the spread

The Hurricanes +1.5 (-220) are a little on the pricey side if you’re looking for insurance and do not trust them straight up.

There is plenty of risk playing the Maple Leafs -1.5 (+165), too, as Toronto lost the first meeting 4-1.

PASS.

Over/Under

OVER 6.5 (-105) is a decent value at near even money with both teams rested and a pair of backup goaltenders in the crease.

The Over has also cashed in five straight against winning teams for the Hurricanes, while hitting in four of the last five meetings in this series.

The Over is 16-5-1 in the past 22 for the Leafs, too, while going 6-1-1 in the previous eight games at Scotiabank Arena.
