Bucs CB Carlton Davis III has confidence necessary to reach lofty goals

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis III has high expectations for himself, and the confidence to meet them

If you’re going to play cornerback in the NFL, you’ve got to have a ridiculous level of self-confidence.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis III certainly isn’t lacking in that department, and he’s got some top-shelf personal goals heading into the 2022 NFL season.

After showing marked progression in each of his first four years in Tampa Bay, Davis signed a three-year contract extension with the Bucs this offseason, paying him around $15 million per season.

After Monday’s training camp practice, Davis put everyone on notice regarding his high expectations for himself as he prepares to live up to his new pay grade:

The Bucs have Super Bowl hopes again this season, and the play of the secondary will have plenty to do with whether or not they make it that far. As the team’s top corner, Davis will need to set the tone for the unit’s best season yet.

Hear what Tom Brady, Carlton Davis III and others had to say after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ training camp practice Monday

After an off day on Sunday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were back at it again Monday morning, hitting the field for their first training camp practice in full pads.

Hear what quarterback Tom Brady, cornerback Carlton Davis III, and others had to say following Monday’s practice:

Every former Auburn player’s rating in Madden 23

Do you agree with these ratings?

Madden 23 will soon be available on the shelves and that means that the ratings have been released.

These ratings are always interesting as most players feel they deserve a higher rating. There are 27 former Auburn football players who received rankings and there is quite a range in the ranking.

Unsurprisingly, [autotag]Braden Smith[/autotag] has the highest rating at 85 with [autotag]Carl Lawson[/autotag], [autotag]Jamel Dean[/autotag], and [autotag]Carlton Davis III[/autotag] just a few points lower than him.

[autotag]Roger McCreary[/autotag] was the only rookie to receive a rating, earning a 72. If the rest of Auburn’s rookies make rosters after training camp then they will receive rankings.

Here is a look at the rating of each former Tiger in Madden 23.

Former Auburn Defensive Linemen staying put in Pittsburgh

Another former Auburn Tiger inks a new contract in the NFL

Former Tigers defensive linemen, Montravius Adams, re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday afternoon.

The Georgia native signed a new deal for two years worth $5 million. The twenty-six-year-old was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2017. He would then spend four seasons in Green Bay. After that, he bounced around amongst three teams in 2021. Those teams were the New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, and the Steelers. Now, it appears that he is locked in with the Steelers for at least two more years.

Throughout his NFL career, Adams has recorded 57 tackles. Along with that, he also has 1.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble. The majority of his production came from his time with the Packers. However, he hopes to get back to his old ways in the black and yellow uniforms.

In 2021, Adams started four games for the Steelers. The main reason was due to the fact that the Steelers starting defensive tackles were injured (Stephon Tuitt and Tyson Alualu). With the two likely to be back in time for the start of the season, he will likely be a backup at the defensive tackle position.

Other former Tigers that have signed contracts are Carlton Davis and CJ Uzomah. Davis signed with the Bucaneers on a three-year $45 million dollar deal, while Uzomah signed with the Jets on a three-year $24 million dollar deal. The Steelers certainly hope to see Adams develop into a rotational defensive lineman. Adams is a big presence at the Nose Tackle position and could certainly help the Steelers in the 2022 season.

Where Carlton Davis lands in Touchdown Wire’s NFL free agency rankings

Carlton Davis III is among the top free agents this offseason after four years in Tampa.

We are just a couple of weeks away from the beginning of the 2022 NFL free agency period. Players such as former Auburn Tigers cornerback Carlton Davis II could be looking for new teams, or re-sign with their current team.

Davis was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft. His four-year rookie contract expires and is now free to sign with any team as an unrestricted free agent. Davis won a Super Bowl with the Bucs in 2021.

Our colleagues at the Touchdown Wire recently listed Davis among the top 60 NFL free agents.

What Touchdown Wire Says…

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The up-and-down nature of Davis’ play can be summarized with this near-interception against the Eagles in the wild-card round, in which Davis shows a nice click-and-close, almost gets the pick, and winds up with a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct for taking his helmet off. Whoops.

That infraction aside, Davis worked through his own injuries in 2021, and when he was healthy, it seemed as if nobody else in the secondary was. He gave up 38 catches on 69 targets for 405 yards, 163 yards after the catch, three touchdowns, one interception, more than one dropped interception, and an opponent passer rating of 80.9. Davis isn’t a top-five CB1, but he’s much better than depth, and he’d fill out most defensive backfields with authority.

Davis landed at No. 26 on the list of top 60 free agents. If he does leave Tampa Bay through free agency, it could be one of the top landing spots for another former Auburn cornerback, Roger McCreary.

NFL free agency begins on Mar. 14 when agents can begin speaking with teams. The official start of the free agency begins on Mar. 16 at 4:00 p.m. ET when the 2022 league year begins.
