Cardinals 41, Rams 10: Kyler Murray had 3 TD passes, Dennis Gardeck 3 sacks in win

The Cardinals had everything going right in Week 2 in a 41-10 win over the Rams.

The Arizona Cardinals had everything going for them on Sunday at State Farm Stadium. They rolled up 489 yards of offense with Kyler Murray throwing three touchdown passes and having a perfect passer rating.

Marvin Harrison Jr. had four catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns, and James Conner rushed for 122 yards and a score.

Meanwhile the defense held the Rams to 245 yards, including running back Kyren Williams to 25 rushing yards on 12 carries. They sacked Matthew Stafford five times, with Dennis Gardeck leading the way with three.

They started fast, dominated and finished strong and got their first home win over the Rams in a decade.

This is how it went down.

Cardinals get 4th-down stop

The Rams started on Arizona’s side of the field after Blake Corum had a 41-yard kickoff return, but the Cardinals got a turnover on downs after Kyren Williams ran for nine yards on first down. He was stopped for a loss and then, after a challenge by Jonathan Gannon on a completed pass that would have given the Rams a first down ruled the play incomplete, Budda Baker tackled Cooper Kupp on fourth down short of the line to gain.

Marvin Harrison Jr. TD! Cardinals 7, Rams 0

James Conner had runs of 16 and 13 yards, and Kyler Murray scrambled four six more, but Murray found the rookie Harrison in the back of the end zone for a 23-yard touchdown pass, Harrison’s first NFL touchdown.

Gardeck sack forces 3-and-out

On the Rams’ second drive, the defense showed up. Dennis Gardeck sacked Matthew Stafford on third down to end the drive and force a punt.

ANOTHER MARV TD, A BOMB! Cardinals 14, Rams 0

The second TD for Harrison was even better than the first. Greg Dortch returned the Rams punt to the 40 and Murray threw a bomb to Harrison, who got behind the L.A. defense, for a 60-yard touchdown.

Cardinals 21, Rams 0

Harrison went over 100 yards for the game in the first quarter with a 33-yard reception and the Cardinals went on a 99-yard touchdown drive that ended with an 18-yard touchdown pass to tight end Elijah Higgins. Murray moved, dodged and spun, and he threw a dart to the back of the end zone.

Cardinals 21, Rams 3

The Rams got on the board but were held to three points with a stop in the red zone. Demarcus Robinson had a 42-yard catch when Budda Baker lost the ball in coverage, and Julian Okwara was flagged for unnecessary roughness, but Zaven Collins got his first sack of the season on third down, forcing a 29-yard field goal.

Cardinals 24, Rams 3

The Cardinals answered right back with three more points after a 40-yard drive. Murray ran for 17 of the yards, setting up a 48-yard field goal with 5:09 left in the half.

4th-down goalline stand to end 1st half

The Cardinals punted the ball back to the Rams with under two minutes left in the half and Matthew Stafford led them down the field for a goal-to-go situation. Arizona’s defense held.

They stuffed Williams on one play, Stafford threw an incomplete pass, Budda Baker tackled Williams for a loss on a pass play and then the Rams, going for it on fourth down, threw an incomplete pass out the back of the end zone. Star Thomas was initially flagged for pass interference but the officials picked up the flag for being an uncatchable pass, and that is how the half ended with the Cardinals leading 24-3.

Cardinals 31, Rams 3

The Cardinals started the second half rolling on offense. Behind the legs of Conner, who had a 22-yard run, and Murray, who added a 26-yarder, they extended the lead to 31-3 as Conner ran in for a five-yard score.

It was the seventh straight game Conner has scored a touchdown, tying the franchise record for the longest such streak.

Cooper Kupp hurt

Kupp injured his ankle and was announced as doubtful to return. he had four receptions for 37 yards in the first half.

Cardinals 34, Rams 3

Matt Prater’s 57-yard field goal after the Rams went three-and-out extended the lead to 31 points. Krys Barnes was credited with the Cardinals’ fourth sack of the game on third down.

Cardinals 34, Rams 10

Stafford led the Rams on a 70-yard drive in eight plays. Kyren Williams scored from four yards out.

Cardinals 41, Rams 10

Even bad things go right for the Cardinals. James Conner, inside the five, fumbled the ball, but Trey McBride recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown.

Dennis Gardeck’s 3rd sack is a strip sack

Gardeck had his third sack of the game and forced Stafford to fumble. L.J. Collier recovered the football. Mack Wilson was ejected for taunting so the Cardinals took over at their own 37.

Kyler Murray’s day ends with perfect passer rating

Clayton Tune replaced Murray after the fumble recover to play the final 7:59 of the game. Murray finished the game 17-for-21 passing for 266 yards and three touchdowns for a perfect 158.3 passer rating. He also had five rushes for 59 yards.

Rookie guard Isaiah Adams, center Trystan Colon and tackle Jackson Barton entered the game as well.

Clayton Tune turnover

Marvin Harrison Jr. had over 100 yards in 1st quarter vs. Rams

He had four catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter against the Rams.

The Arizona Cardinals took a 24-3 lead into halftime against the Los Angeles Rams at home on Sunday and led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The story of the half was the coming out of rookie receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.

Harrison scored his first two NFL touchdowns, one a 23-yard strike from Kyler Murray to the back of the end zone, and the other a 60-yard bomb from Murray.

After only one catch for four yards in his NFL debut in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, he had his first 100-yard game on Sunday, only he did it in just one quarter.

After one quarter of play, he had four receptions for 130 yards and the two scores.

His catches went like this:

  • 23-yard touchdown reception, 11:09 remaining in the quarter
  • 60-yard touchdown reception, 8:57 remaining in the quarter
  • 15-yard reception, 7:00 remaining in the quarter

Marvin Harrison Jr.’s 2nd TD even better than his first!

After a 23-yard touchdown reception, Harrison’s second catch was a 60-yard touchdown catch to give the Cardinals a 14-0 lead.

The NFL debut for Arizona Cardinals rookie receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. was disappointing. His second career game was a highlight reel after only two possessions.

After scoring his first NFL touchdown on his first touch of the game, a 23-yard play from quarterback Kyler Murray to Harrison in the back of the end zone, his next TD came on the Cardinals’ very next offensive play.

The Cardinals forced a three-and-out and Greg Dortch returned the punt to the 40-yard line. The first play of the drive was a bomb from Murray to Harrison, who got behind the Rams defense. He made the catch and made it to the end zone for a 60-yard touchdown.

Here is the play:

In the first quarter, that was two touches, two catches, two touchdowns and 83 yards.

He now trails his father in touchdowns scored by 126.

Watch Marvin Harrison Jr.’s 1st career TD catch

The Cardinals took a 7-0 lead over the Rams with a 23-yard touchdown pass from Kyler Murray to Marvin Harrison Jr.

After Arizona Cardinals first-round pick Marvin Harrison Jr., the fourth pick in the 2024 draft, had only one catch for four yards in his NFL debut, the rookie receiver made an impact nearly immediately.

His first catch of the game was a 23-yard touchdown in the back of the end zone to give the Cardinals a 7-0 lead.

See the score for yourself!

It was not the first time he was targeted. Murray attempted to get him the ball on the first play from scrimmage, but Rams cornerback Tre’Davious White broke up the pass.

It was his first career touchdown. He only has 127 left to catch his father, Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison.

4 anytime TD scorer bets for Cardinals vs. Rams in Week 2

Make some money with these player scoring props.

The Arizona Cardinals and L.A. Rams face off Sunday afternoon at State Farm Stadium in their first NFC West divisional matchup of the season. Both are 0-1.

Last week, in their 26-20 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions, receiver Cooper Kupp and running back Kyren Williams scored touchdowns.

For the Cardinals. receiver Michael Wilson, running back James Conner and kick returner DeeJay Dallas each scored one.

Who will score an anytime touchdown in the Cardinals-Rams games in Week 2?

Below are some anytime TD bets you should make in this game. The odds come from BetMGM Sportsbook.

Cardinals-Rams anytime TD scorer best bets in Week 2

Williams would be a good choice, but he is -160 to score. That’s not worth it.

James Conner anytime TD (-110)

Dating back to last season, Conner has scored a touchdown in six straight games. There isn’t any good money to be won, but it seems like easy money.

Kyler Murray anytime TD (+175)

Murray got out with his legs a bit last week. It has been a while since we have seen him in the red zone get into the end zone. These are not bad odds to bet.

Greg Dortch anytime TD (+350)

Dortch has proven to be a go-to guy for Kyler Murray. If they get in a goal-to-goal setting, his ability to make plays could be key.

Ty Johnson anytime TD (+310)

As the other receiver to Kupp, Johnson had five receptions for 79 yards, including a 63-yard play. He could be the beneficiary of a big play against Arizona.

Rams inactives: TE Davis Allen out vs. Cardinals; CB Cobie Durant to play

Starting defensive backs Cobie Durant and Quentin Lake suited up and were ready to play for the Rams despite being questionable.

The L.A. Rams announced their inactive list 90 minutes before kickoff of their Week 2 road game against the Arizona Cardinals. One player, tight end Davis Allen, had previously been ruled out.

Starting corner back Cobie Durant and safety Quentin Lake, both questionable for the game with injuries, were not deactivated and would suit up and start for them.

Who were the Rams’ inactive players?

L.A. Rams Week 2 inactive list

  • RB Cody Schrader
  • OLB Brennan Jackson
  • OL Dylan McMahon
  • TE Davis Allen
  • DE Tyler Davis

Warren McClendon, who started last week at right tackle in place of an injured Rob Havenstein, started at left tackle after Alaric Jackson was serving the final game of his two-game suspension and replacement Joe Noteboom was placed on injured reserve with a high ankle sprain earlier in the week.

Cardinals inactives: WR Xavier Weaver out again; DL Dante Stills to sit

Undrafted rookie WR Xavier Weaver’s NFL debut is delayed another week.

The Arizona Cardinals had two players listed as questionable to play in their Week 2 home opener against the L.A. Rams. Rookie Max Melton, who worked through the concussion protocol and was questionable, was cleared and was not among the Cardinals’ inactive players, announced 90 minutes before kickoff.

However, the debut fo undrafted rookie receiver Xavier Weaver will need to wait another week. Questionable with an oblique injury, Weaver was announced as inactive.

The full list for the Cardinals:

Arizona Cardinals Week 2 inactive list

  • CB Darren Hall
  • LB Jesse Luketa
  • DL Dante Stills
  • OL Jon Gaines II
  • TE Travis Vokolek
  • WR Xavier Weaver

Hall, Luketa, Gaines and Vokolek are inactive as healthy scratches for the second straight game. Stills is an interesting scratch. It means that Julian Okwara, signed to the active roster from the practice squad, will be active and play.

With the Rams often using three-receiver sets, the Cardinals don’t anticipate needing as many defensive linemen to play. Five would dress for the game after all six were active and played against the Bills.

4 key matchups for the Cardinals vs. Rams in Week 2

These matchups are worth watching in Week 2.

The Arizona Cardinals seek their first win of the season in Week 2 taking on the L.A. Rams at home Sunday afternoon. To do that, they will need to win some key matchups.

Below are some of the matchups in the game that will matter most.

Cardinals vs. Rams key matchups in Week 2

WR Marvin Harrison Jr. vs. CB Tre’Davious White

White struggled in the Rams’ opener against the Detroit Lions, getting beat by Jameson Williams. Williams finished with 121 receiving yards and a score on five receptions.

He presumably will be lined up against Harrison, the Cardinals’ top pick in the draft this year. Harrison only had one catch for four yards in his debit last week.

The Cardinals need more.

RT Kelvin Beachum vs. OLB Byron Young

The Rams have two young, talented edge rushers. Rookie Jared Verse will go up against Cardinals left tackle Paris Johnson. Johnson will likely do fine. Beachum struggled last week in relief of Jonah Williams after Williams injured his knee. Greg Rousseau beat him a couple of times and Von Miller knocked him back, making Kyler Murry trip.

Young had a sack in the Rams’ opener and had eight as a rookie last season.

OLB Zaven Collins vs. ??? Rams left tackle

Alaric Jackson is suspended. Joe Noteboom, his replacement, is on injured reserve. Warren McClendon could be the starting left tackle or it could be Ty Nsekhe or Geron Christian, both of whom were signed last week.

Collins should have had a sack last week but it was nullified by a penalty that should not have been. He needs to get pressure on Matthew Stafford.

CB Garrett Williams (and company) vs. WR Cooper Kupp

Kupp had 14 catches for 110 yards in the opener and was targeted 21 times. He moves all over but lines up most in the slot, which means Williams will get a lot of work against him.
