Cardinals injury report: Dante Stills, Will Hernandez are new additions

The Cardinals had a pair of new injuries pop up in the first injury report of Week 3.

The Arizona Cardinals’ Wednesday injury report leading to Sunday’s game in Week 3 against the Detroit Lions has new two names listed: right guard Will Hernandez and defensive lineman Dante Stills.

Rookie wide receiver Xavier Weaver also remains on the report. The full details are below.

Arizona Cardinals Week 3 Wednesday injury report

Limited participation

DL Dante Stills (shoulder)

Stills was inactive for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams and when head coach Jonathan Gannon was asked Monday about that decision, he said, “I just felt like who we put up was the best way to defend them.”

The question is when Stills was injured. It’s likely he got banged up at some point during practice Wednesday and that affected the remainder of his reps.

Full participation

G Will Hernandez (ankle)

WR Xavier Weaver (oblique)

It’s probable that Hernandez received treatment on his ankle from a possible issue from the game against the Rams, but as a starter it didn’t affect any of his reps in practice.

Weaver was limited all last week and was inactive for the second consecutive week. If he has no additional issues, there likely won’t be a presence on the report next week.

RB James Conner, TE Zach Ertz both ‘looking good to play’ vs. Lions

The Cardinals expect to have almost a fully healthy offensive lineup against the Lions.

The Arizona Cardinals have a number of players on their final injury report listed as questionable for the game. Among them were running back James Conner, who suffered an ankle injury at the end of the team’s Monday night loss to the Los Angeles Rams, and tight end Zach Ertz, who apparently suffered a hamstring injury in practice on Friday.

It appears both will be good to go Sunday morning.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, both Conner and Ertz are ‘looking good to play’ against the Lions.

Conner playing was more or less expected. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury said he felt good about both Conner and Chase Edmonds, who was activated off injured reserve Saturday, both playing.

With the loss of receiver DeAndre Hopkins for at least the rest of the regular season, getting both running backs back will be important and having Ertz as another pass-catching threat along with the other receivers on the roster will be critical.

Kickoff for the Cardinals’ game against the Lions is 11 a.m. Arizona time. Inactives will be announced about 9:30 a.m. Arizona time.

James Conner, Chase Edmonds both expected to play vs. Lions

While DeAndre Hopkins is out, the Cardinals should have both starting running backs back in the lineup.

The Arizona Cardinals have lost wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for at least the rest of the regular season but it appears they will have both James Conner and Chase Edmonds available this weekend when they take on the Detroit Lions.

Edmonds was designated to return from injured reserve last week and has practiced the last two weeks. He is on track to be activated on Saturday. Conner suffered an ankle injury at the end of the Cardinals’ Monday night loss to the Los Angeles Rams. He did not practice early in the week but got limited work on Friday and is officially questionable to play.

That said, head coach Kliff Kingsbury believes both will play.

“I feel good about it,” he said after practice on Friday. “I think Sunday he warms up, feels good and he’ll be rolling.”

As for Conner, “Same, I feel good about it,” he said.

Edmonds missed four games with an ankle injury and is clearly going to be activated Saturday, based on Kingsbury’s comments.

Getting Edmonds back will give the Cardinals the one-two punch they had early in the year.

Before his injury, Edmonds rushed for 430 yards on 5.7 yards per attempt and caught 30 passes for 211 yards.

Conner has rushed for 661 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, averaging 3.7 yards per carry, and he has also caught 29 passes for 303 yards.
