Vancouver Canucks at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Vancouver Canucks at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Vancouver Canucks (6-10-3) visit the Colorado Avalanche (11-5-1) at Ball Arena Wednesday. Puck drop is set for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Canucks vs. Avalanche odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Canucks started the season 0-5-2, and while their recent play hasn’t been stellar it’s at least been a step up from that. Vancouver lost 5-4 to the Vegas Golden Knights Monday, ending a mini 2-game win streak. Goaltending continues to be an issue for the Canucks who have allowed 4 or more goals in 8 of their last 10 games.

The Avalanche got off to a shaky start, posting a 4-4-1 record in October. However, the defending Stanley Cup champs have righted the ship by winning 7 of 8 games in November. Colorado is on a 3-game win streak following a 3-2 shootout win at the Dallas Stars Monday.

Canucks at Avalanche projected goalies

Thatcher Demko (2-9-2, 3.87 GAA, .883 SV%) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (W-L-T, GAA, SV%)

Demko has been a big factor in why the Canucks rank near the bottom of the league in goals allowed per game (3.95, 30th). The American netminder has allowed 3 or more goals in all but 1 of his 13 starts, including a 5-spot to the Golden Knights Monday.

Georgiev has really settled in to his new surroundings as the season has progressed, posting a 5-1-0 record along with a 1.98 GAA and .940 SV% with 1 shutout in November. The 26-year-old goaltender allowed 2 goals on 24 shots at the Stars Monday.

Canucks at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Canucks 2

Moneyline

The Avalanche (-200) are on their home ice, but the risk here doesn’t justify the reward. This would be an acceptable choice for a parlay, but as a standalone wager it’s a PASS.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Canucks goaltending situation has been absolutely absymal, and this is a fantastic spot for the Avalanche to flex their muscles. Colorado has the edge offensively, defensively, between the pipes and on special teams.

In what may be a deal maker on the puck line the Avalanche sport the league’s best power play (34.5%) and will have their chances against the league’s 2nd worst penalty kill (65.6%).

Five of Colorado’s 7 wins in November have come by margin, and the plus money value is just a bonus on the AVALANCHE -1.5 (+120).

Over/Under

Colorado has scored just 2 regulation-time goals in 3 of its last 4 games, but Wednesday should mark an opportunity to get the red lamp lit again. Despite the recent power outage, the Avs have still averaged 3.88 goals per game in November.

A split wager on OVER 6.5 (-115) and, in case Vancouver doesn’t pull its weight, AVALANCHE OVER 3.5 TOTAL GOALS IN REGULATION (-110) is advisable.

Vancouver Canucks at Colorado Avalanche odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Vancouver Canucks at Colorado Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Vancouver Canucks (30-26-5) head south to the Mile High City to face the Colorado Avalanche (45-13-4) Wednesday at Ball Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Canucks vs. Avalanche odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

Vancouver enters on a three-game skid and losers of five of its last six, and it will be running out backup G Jaroslav Halak to tend the nets Wednesday.

Colorado, winners of its last four, should be licking its chops. LW Mikko Rantanen has 4 goals and 4 assists in the last four games to lead the red-hot Avs’ charge.

Canucks at Avalanche odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 4:09 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Canucks +210 (bet $100 to win $210) | Avalanche -270 (bet $270 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Canucks +1.5 (-120) | Avalanche -1.5 (-105)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -108 | U: -112)

Canucks at Avalanche projected goalies

Jaroslav Halak (2-6-2, 3.41 GAA, .886 SV%) vs. Darcy Kuemper (30-8-2, 2.40 GAA, .923 SV%, 5 SO)

There is quite a mismatch on paper as the 36-year-old Halak has the highest GAA and worst SV% of his 16-year career. He’s only played in one game this month, a 5-2 home loss to the Calgary Flames Saturday. He hasn’t won since Jan. 31.

Kuemper has been fantastic in his last four starts as he has allowed 3 goals on 130 shots and recorded 2 shutouts. He’s 2-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .946 SV% against the Canucks this season.

Canucks at Avalanche odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Canucks 1

Money line

PASS.

The Avs (-270) are huge favorites and not worth risking 2.7 times the potential profit with an ML wager. However, there’s no harm in packaging them in a parlay.

Against the spread

Take the AVALANCHE -1.5 (-105).

For such heavy favorites, that’s a pretty solid price on the puck line. Colorado is 16-15 on the puck line at home this season. During the Avalanche’s current four-games win streak, three victories were by 2 or more goals.

Over/Under

The UNDER 6.5 (-112) is the way to go – despite the extra juice.

The Avs have cooled on offense of late, which could be due to the absence of captain LW Gabriel Landeskog. Colorado has scored 3.1 goals per game over the last 10, which is way down from its season average of 3.8.

Vancouver has scored just 4 goals in its last three games. Plus, the Under is 4-1-2 in the last seven meetings of these two clubs in Colorado.
