NEON shouted out Kobe Bryant as it won its fifth-straight Palme d’Or at Cannes with Sean Baker’s Anora

NEON is on a hot streak at the Cannes Film Festival.

Sean Baker’s new film Anora won the coveted Palme d’Or in this year’s Cannes Film Festival, which makes for a stellar run for its distributor.

NEON, which started in 2017 and has turned into one of the most consistent independent distributors in Hollywood, will release Anora later this year.

With the film, starring Scream‘s Mikey Madison, winning the top prize at Cannes in the field of competition, it marks the fifth-straight film from NEON to take home the award.

Since 2019, NEON has pulled off a Palme d’Or clean sweep, with Parasite (2019), Titane (2021), Triangle of Sadness (2022) and Anatomy of a Fall (2023) also taking home the honor at the French film festival.

In 2020, the festival was put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning that NEON has taken the prestigious award over the last six years the festival has been in operation.

Three of those films went onto Best Picture nominations, with Titane a stretch to reach the Academy with its extreme subject matter and genre leanings. Combined with glowing reviews, that bodes well for Baker’s new film registering with the Oscars next winter.

It also proves that NEON really is the studio to beat right now on the Promenade de la Croisette.

Harrison Ford tearily delivered a touching Cannes award speech during Indiana Jones premiere

Harrison Ford is still the best.

As his latest globetrotting adventure Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this week, franchise star Harrison Ford got a hero’s welcome in France.

Juxtaposed with the first public screening of the blockbuster sequel, Cannes played a highlight reel to honor Ford’s career and gave him an honorary Palme d’Or for his five decades of film achievement.

While he’s known for his gruff, sarcastic characters, Ford became overwhelmed with emotion at the honor and the praise from the audience who likely grew up watching Ford fight bad guys on the big screen.

“They say, when you’re about to die, you see your life flash before your eyes,” Ford said with a laugh after the montage of his best film moments. “And I just saw my life flash before my eyes, a great part of my life.”

Ford is one of the truly legendary actors in the profession, and he was richly deserving of such an honor on such a major stage in the movie world.

His latest Indiana Jones film hit theaters on June 30.
