Montreal Canadiens at Vegas Golden Knights Game 5 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Vegas Golden Knights at Montreal Canadiens Game 5 NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Montreal Canadiens and the Vegas Golden Knights play Game 5 of their Stanley Cup Semifinals series Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET at T-Mobile Arena. Below, we analyze the Canadiens vs. Golden Knights odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Canadiens came up just short on home ice in Game 4, falling 2-1 in overtime, but they continue to make life very rough on the Golden Knights. Many Montreal fans (and bettors) were angered with the officiating in the OT loss, too.

The Golden Knights blew a lead in Game 3 after a misplay by Marc-Andre Fleury late in regulation that forced OT. They eventually lost, and head coach Peter DeBoer shook things up by putting Robin Lehner in for Fleury – it worked.

  • Money line: Canadiens +195 (bet $100 to win $195) | Golden Knights -240 (bet $240 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Canadiens +1.5 (-140) | Golden Knights -1.5 (+115)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -145 | U: +120)

Canadiens at Golden Knights: Projected starting goalies

Carey Price (12-7-5, 2.64 GAA, .901 SV%, 1 SO) at Marc-Andre Fleury (26-10-0, 1.98 GAA, .928 SV%, 6 SO). Stats from regular season.

Price was rarely tested in Game 4, facing just 21 shots. He wasn’t bad, but he wasn’t great either. He allowed the game-winning goal to Nicolas Roy just 78 seconds into overtime.

Fleury was rested in Game 4, as DeBoer cited fatigue for the veteran, and Robin Lehner turned aside 27 of the 28 shots he faced. Both Lehner and Fleury have proven to be No. 1 caliber goalies, which is a great problem for DeBoer to have.

Canadiens at Golden Knights: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Golden Knights 3, Canadiens 2

Money line (ML)

The Golden Knights (-240) should be able to eke out a victory in this decisive Game 5, but it won’t be anything like the carnage we saw in the other series with the Tampa Bay Lightning and the New York Islanders. This game will be super close, and another overtime game wouldn’t be shocking.

AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

The CANADIENS +1.5 (-140) are worth a roll of the dice on the puck line, as they have played the Golden Knights extremely tough. The past two games went to overtime, with the teams each picking up a win, and each of the past three have been one-goal games. Keep riding the underdog.

Over/Under (O/U)

The TOTAL of 5 should come down right on the number. The Under is officially 1-0-3 in this series so far. If there was a “lean” it would be UNDER 5.5 (-150) on the alternate line. The top six forwards of the Golden Knights have not shown up in this series, and they have given no signs of warming up.

Montreal Canadiens at Vegas Golden Knights Game 2 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Montreal Canadiens at Vegas Golden Knights Game 2 NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Montreal Canadiens and Vegas Golden Knights play Game 2 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs third-round series Wednesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET at T-Mobile Arena. Below, we analyze the Canadiens vs. Golden Knights odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Canadiens saw their seven-game win streak snapped in Game 1, losing 4-1. Perhaps playing in front of a raucous arena filled with fans was a bit of a shock for Montreal who had played only in front of hundreds of fans until Monday.

The Golden Knights have won five consecutive playoff games dating back to Game 3 of the Colorado Avalanche series, scoring three or more goals in each of those victories.

Canadiens at Golden Knights: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 8:34 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Canadiens +220 (bet $100 to win $220) | Golden Knights -275 (bet $275 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Canadiens +1.5 (-125) | Lightning -1.5 (+105)
  • Over/Under: 5 (O: -135 | U: +115)

Canadiens at Golden Knights: Projected starting goalies

Carey Price (12-7-5, 2.64 GAA, .901 SV%, 1 SO) at Marc-Andre Fleury (26-10-0, 1.98 GAA, .928 SV%, 6 SO). Stats from regular season.

Price wasn’t terrible in Game 1, but he allowed four goals on 30 shots to take his first loss since Game 4 of the first round vs. Toronto. He had allowed three or fewer goals in nine straight games until the series opener.

Fleury has rattled off five straight playoff victories, allowing one goal on 29 shots in the win. He has allowed three or fewer goals in each of his 13 postseason appearances so far.

Canadiens at Golden Knights: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Golden Knights 4, Canadiens 1

Money line (ML)

The Golden Knights (-275) will cost you nearly three times your potential return, and that’s just a little bit too much.

AVOID, and look to the puck line instead.

Against the spread (ATS)

The GOLDEN KNIGHTS -1.5 (+105) won the first game 4-1, and I like them to win this one by an identical score. The Canadiens looked shell-shocked in Game 1, whether it was the intensity of VGK, the loud crowd, or a little combination of both. Fleury was on point too, and he’ll be so again in Game 2.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total of 5 should be right on the number again. The alternate line of UNDER 5.5 (-155) is a much more attractive play in Game 2. We had the same situation in the series opener, which ended right on the total of five goals.
