Rams sign rookie TE Camren McDonald

The Rams added some tight end depth Saturday by signing rookie Camren McDonald

With Hunter Long still on the PUP list and Davis Allen sidelined due to a hamstring injury, the Los Angeles Rams have gotten thin at tight end. However, they added a little bit of depth Saturday by signing rookie tight end Camren McDonald.

McDonald signed with the Packers following the 2023 NFL draft but was cut earlier this week. He spent five years at Florida State, recording 74 catches for 861 yards and five touchdowns. Last season, he had 21 receptions for a career-high 312 yards.

He’s 6-foot-4 and 242 pounds, so he has good size for the position. He’s lacking speed, though, as evidenced by his 4.99 in the 40-yard dash this offseason.

McDonald joins Tyler Higbee, Brycen Hopkins, Allen, Long, Christian Sims and Nikola Kalinic as the tight ends on the Rams’ roster right now.

Packers releasing rookies Camren McDonald, Chuck Filiaga

The Packers are releasing rookie TE Camren McDonald and rookie G Chuck Filiaga.

The Green Bay Packers are releasing rookie tight Camren McDonald and rookie guard Chuck Filiaga from the 90-man roster on Tuesday, per Bill Huber of Packers Central.

Both McDonald and Filiaga were signed as undrafted free agents following the 2023 draft. McDonald went undrafted out of Florida State, while Filiaga went undrafted out of Minnesota.

Releasing McDonald and Filiaga will result in $12,000 in dead cap on the Packers salary cap based on signing bonuses given in the pair’s rookie contracts.

The Packers signed interior offensive lineman Cole Schneider on Tuesday, accounting for one of the two open roster spots. The roster is at 89 players counting Schneider, allowing for one more addition.

Packers host Florida State TE Camren McDonald for official pre-draft visit

The Packers hosted Florida State TE Camren McDonald on a top-30 visit before the 2023 draft.

The Green Bay Packers hosted Florida State tight end Camren McDonald for an official top-30 visit ahead of the 2023 NFL draft, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

McDonald (6-4, 237) caught 74 passes for 861 yards and five touchdowns over 58 games and 30 starts. His 312 receiving yards in 2022 were a career high.

Following his final season in Tallahassee, McDonald participated in both the Tropical Bowl and NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, two showcases for prospects.

At Florida State’s pro day, McDonald ran the 40-yard dash in 4.98 seconds, hit 30″ in the vertical leap, covered 9-9 in the broad jump and did 19 reps on the bench press. His Relative Athletic Score is 2.52 out of 10.0, mostly due to a slow 40-yard dash time.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic ranks McDonald as the No. 45 overall tight end in the draft class and a likely undrafted free agent.

The Packers could see McDonald as a young player at a need position who could be signed following the draft and developed on the practice squad.
