Twitter explodes after 5-star WR Cameron Coleman commits to Texas A&M

Texas A&M is on a heck of a hot streak at the moment getting commits from multiple skill players for Jimbo and Petrino to work into the offense. On the 4th of July, 2024 five-star wide receiver receiver out of Alabama, Cameron Coleman, set off fireworks with his commitment to Texas A&M.

After announcing he gave a little insight to 247 sports about his process and why he chose the Aggies:

“Really the last time I went up there I felt comfortable and it was the place I wanted to be,” Coleman said.

“My relationship with Coach (Dameyune) Craig was the tightest out of the bunch. They have a new offensive coordinator Coach Bobby (Petrino) and the Aggie network outside of life after football you can get a job after football and it was a place I felt comfortable with.”

Colemen’s commitment announcement capped off a strong few week for the Aggies in the recruiting department and Twitter was buzzing.

Texas A&M jumps into top 10 with commitment from 5-star WR Cam Coleman

Then on the holiday we got one of the biggest surprises of the 2024 recruiting cycle so far.

The week of the Fourth of July has suddenly become one of the busiest of the year in the recruiting world. This time it began with a bang, as Ohio State got a stunning commitment from St. Ignatius (Ill.) five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott on Sunday night. Several other schools added blue-chip recruits on Monday, then on Tuesday, we got one of the biggest surprises of the 2024 recruiting cycle so far.

Central (Ala.) five-star wide receiver Cam Coleman was expected to commit to Auburn. On3’s prediction model had the Tigers as a heavy favorite at 93.4%. However, on the fourth, Coleman announced that he’ll be playing for Texas A&M at the next level.

Coleman (6-foot-3, 180 pounds) is one of the top wide receivers and overall players in the 2024 recruiting cycle. The 247Sports composite rankings have him at No. 3 at his position, first overall in Alabama and No. 11 nationally.

In addition to Texas A&M and Auburn, Coleman had offers from 25 other programs, including Clemson, LSU, Alabama and Georgia.

Asked why he picked Texas A&M, Coleman told On3’s Hayes Fawcett it was about their education and network.

“What stood out about Texas A&M was how I felt like home every time I went there… From the coaching staff, to spending time with my future teammates. We are all going to stop playing football one day and that’s where the education aspect and Aggie Network comes into play and it’s an amazing network.”

Needless to say, landing Coleman gave a huge boost to the Aggies’ class of 2024. They now have 16 hard commits – of which Coleman is the highest-ranked prospect. Together this group ranks No. 9 in the nation.

After landing in his Top 8 program list, is Texas A&M a lock to land 2024 5-star WR Cam Coleman?

After announcing his Top 8 program list, which included Texas A&M, 2024 5-star WR Cam Coleman is a current favorite to land with the Maroon and White

The summer months are peppered with preseason previews and rankings galore in the college football landscape. At the same time, the rest of June and July is spent on recruiting, specifically top program lists, which eventually leads to program-changing commitments.

The month of June for Texas A&M has been hectic on the recruiting front, as each weekend has seen high-priority prospects from the 2024 cycle make their way to Aggieland with one question in mind: What can the Aggies do for me?

Last weekend, two of the top wide receiver prospects descended upon College Station, four-star Jaylen Hornsby and five-star Cameron “Cam” Coleman, who revealed an already close friendship through a post on Twitter,  noting the potential impact both could make on the gridiron while dawning Maroon and White.

Well, things became even clearer regarding Coleman’s interest in the Aggies as he released his Top 8 program list, which includes Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Kentucky, and Texas A&M. According to one analyst that I rely on concerning any recruiting movements, Rivals’ insider Landyn Rosow believes that the Aggies are not only the front runner for Coleman, but also the likes of Jaylen Hornsby, and four-star Drelon Miller, who would, of course, join the already committed four-star speedster, Debron Gatling.

For all the naysayers who believe the Aggies are struggling to land commitments compared to other SEC programs, patience is a virtue. Cameron Coleman could be the change agent Jimbo Fisher has been looking for when it’s all said and done.

These 2024 football prospects will visit Texas A&M the weekend of June 16

Texas A&M’s recruiting summer rolls along as the Aggies welcome a handful of top football prospects from the 2024 cycle this weekend, including a five-star WR.

Another June weekend means another opportunity for Texas A&M to welcome a handful of top football prospects from the 2024 cycle.

After the Aggies saw a plethora of top recruiting visits in College Station over the last two weeks, this weekend marks the first instance where the visitor list isn’t as offensive line-heavy. Additionally, no prospects from the Lone Star State are expected for official visits from June 16 through June 18.

Still, it doesn’t exclude Jimbo Fisher and his staff from being hard at work to convince some of the most promising football players of the future to make College Station their next home. On the docket, this weekend is a handful of visits from some top-tier wideouts, including one five-star prospect and the number one ranked player in Alabama.

Additionally, a four-star defensive lineman will make his way through Aggieland. While he’s trending toward the Maroon and White, perhaps an OV this weekend will be the icing on the cake on him formally committing to A&M.

Here’s the rundown on the top football prospects visiting Texas A&M over the weekend. As always, we’ll update this accordingly if any additional names are to be added.

Gators to get unofficial visit from this 5-star WR next week

Gators to get this prized five-star wide receiver on campus ahead of the start of official visit season.

June is looking to be a hot month in Gainesville with a plethora of prep prospects making the trek to the Swamp for their official visit with the University of Florida. However, before the calendar flips there is still unofficial work to do for Billy Napier and his army of staffers.

Five-star wide receiver [autotag]Cameron Coleman[/autotag] out of Phenix City (Alabama) Central recently told Swamp247 that he plans on arriving in Hogtown on Tuesday evening of next week with a full day of activities with the Orange and Blue scheduled for Wednesday. It will be his second campus visit, giving him a better look at what Florida has to offer the rising high school senior.

“I’ve been to Florida one time last year with (cornerback) Jayden Coleman but didn’t get to really experience it,” the 6-foot-3-inch, 180-pound pass-catcher told 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong. “I’m going back next week to really get a feel for it and the coaching staff.”

The blue-chip receiver already has official visits set with the Clemson Tigers (June 2) and LSU Tigers (June 23) — with the Auburn Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs and Texas A&M Aggies also in play. His late-May visit will be his first with the Gators since receiving an offer back in March.

Coleman is rated at four stars and ranked No. 59 overall and No. 11 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him rated at five stars and ranked at Nos. 25 and 7, respectively. Auburn holds a wide lead in the race for his commitment with an 81.1% chance of landing the Cotton State product.

Auburn is pushing hard for 4-star WR Cameron Coleman

The Tigers are pushing hard for one of the top players in Alabama.

Four-star wide receiver [autotag]Cameron Coleman[/autotag] is one of Auburn’s top targets in the 2024 recruiting class and the Tigers have made sure he knows that.

While wide receiver coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] and coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] have kept in constant contact with him, Thursday was his first visit to the Plains since Freeze was hired.

The Phenic City, Alabama product spoke with reporters after the visit and told Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover that Auburn is one of three schools recruiting him the hardest.

“That they want me, they need me and I can be the change in this program,” Coleman said of Auburn’s message to him. “It’s exciting knowing that I can come here and change this program around.”

The other two schools are Florida State and Texas A&M.

He is the No. 96 overall player and No. 15 wide receiver in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 6 player from Alabama.

247Sports and On3 are both significantly higher on Coleman than the rest of the recruiting sites. They consider him the No. 21 and No. 20 overall player and a potential five-star, respectively.

The 6-foot-3, 175-pounder caught 31 passes for 542 yards and six touchdowns as a junior for Central High School last season.

In-state WR Cameron Coleman projected to Auburn

He is one of the top players in the state and a major Auburn target.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and Auburn ended the 2023 recruiting cycle in an impressive way to vault its class into the top 20 classes in the country.

The Tigers have carried that momentum into the 2024 cycle and already have three four-star prospects committed and the focal point of their class in quarterback [autotag]Walker White[/autotag]. They may be close to landing another one as Keith Niebuhr of On3’s Auburn Live has predicted that four-star wide receiver [autotag]Cameron Coleman[/autotag] will commit to Auburn.

The 6-foot-3, 175-pounder is from nearby Phenix City, Alabama, and already has over 20 scholarship offers. He caught 31 passes for 542 yards and six touchdowns for Central High School last season.

He is the No. 152 overall player and No. 26 wide receiver in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 7 player from Alabama in the class.

On3 is significantly higher on Coleman that the rest of the recruiting sites, ranking him as their No. 20 overall player and No. 4 wide receiver.

The Tigers offered him back on May 24, 2022, but new wide receiver coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] has made Coleman a priority since he arrived on the Plains and has the Tigers surging for the talented wide receiver.

Alabama offers multi-sport, 2024 WR Cameron Coleman

Alabama extends an offer to in-state 2024 WR Cameron Coleman

Alabama has landed several players in past seasons from Phenix City, Alabama. Two of them are former Tide players Markail Benton and Javion Cohen. The Crimson Tide has also missed out on other recruits like Karmello English and Justyn Ross.

Recently, the Alabama coaching staff offered 2024 wide receiver, Cameron Coleman. He plays both basketball and football for Central-Phenix City.

One thing that jumps out is his physique. He is listed as being 6-foot-3, 175 pounds. In his highlight tape, he flashes the ability to create separation at the line of scrimmage. He also seems to win a lot of the fifty-fifty balls. Alabama will likely have to out-recruit the likes of other SEC programs like Auburn and Texas A&M.

Coleman plans to attend Auburn’s Junior Day. The Tigers hold a substantial lead in his recruitment up to this point. According to the On3 RPM, Auburn is the favorite to land Coleman at 41.9% likelihood. The Tide will look to close the gap in his recruitment. He will likely make multiple visits to Tuscaloosa during the summer as well as during his senior season.
