Twitter reacts to Arkansas’ come-from-behind win over Missouri State

It was a wild one, but the Hogs pulled it out. Here are the best reactions to the win from social media.

Wow, what a wild one that turned out to be.

It took all four quarters for No. 10 Arkansas to pull away, but they were able to score twice over the final ten minutes of the game to avoid a scare, defeating Missouri State, 38-27 on Saturday night.

Arkansas (3-0, 1-0 SEC) trailed 17-0 at the 10:36 mark in the 2nd quarter, which put a scare into the Razorback fanbase. Arkansas chipped away, and ultimately fought back in the late stages of the 3rd quarter to tie the game at 17-17. Missouri State answered [autotag]Cam Little[/autotag]’s game-tying field goal with a 47-yard touchdown pass five plays later and extended their lead back to ten points on a field goal with 12:04 remaining in the game.

The Razorbacks would go on to score three touchdowns over the next 11:38 to pull away. A 78-yard rush by [autotag]Raheim Sanders[/autotag] and an 82-yard punt return by [autotag]Bryce Stephens[/autotag] headlined the comeback.

Arkansas fans shared their feelings about the win on social media. Here are the best reactions to Arkansas’ win over Missouri State:

Cam Little nominated for award named after an SEC legend

Cam Little made a donation to Down Syndrome Connection of Northwest Arkansas for every field goal he made last year.

Arkansas kicker Cam Little has spent just one year with the Razorbacks so far. But his willingness to be a team player and help others has already been noticed.

Little was Arkansas’ watch list player for the annual Wuerffel Trophy, which is given to the player in college football who best combines community service with athletic and academic achievement.

Earlier in the week Little was named to the Lou Groza Award watch list as potentially the nation’s best kicker.

The sophomore from Moore, Oklahoma, made 20 of 24 field goals last year, his first in a Hogs uniform. The 20 makes were third most in school history in a single season. He also booted true all 46 of his point-after attempts. Off the field, Little donated $10 for every field goal to Down Syndrome Connection of Northwest Arkansas.

The award will be announced during the College Football Awards Show on ESPN on December 8.

After best freshman season in school history, Cam Little getting national notice

Arkansas kicker Cam Little had the best first year the Razorbacks have ever seen at the position.

It took a grand total of one season for Cam Little to put his name on the shortlist of best Arkansas kickers in school history.

And while he isn’t at the top of the mountain yet, the sophomore is trending that way. On Wednesday, Little was one of just 30 players named to the Lou Groza Award watch list. The Groza Award is, as probably guessed, given to the nation’s best collegiate kicker.

Last year, in his first college season, Little went 21 for 27 on field-goal attempts for the Razorbacks and booted through all 46 extra points. His 106 points were the most for an Arkansas kicker since Zach Hocker had 118 in 2011, the season the Hogs went 11-2.

Little’s year earned him Freshman All-American honors from three different publications and an All-SEC Freshman team selection.

The list of 30 is trimmed to 20 on November 3 then three finalists on November 22. The winner of the award is announced December 8.

Complete list of Arkansas football’s preseason All-SEC players across publications

Ten different Arkansas players have been honored with preseason All-SEC selections. Can you name them all without looking?

Summertime in the South, the silly season.

It’s the time of the year, just before SEC Media Days in July, when predictors and prognosticators across the college football landscape are dropping predicted orders of finish and preseason all-conference players.

Three of the most significant of those all-SEC selections are with Athlon Sports and Phil Steele, the two most respected college-football-preview magazine publishers in the game. The other comes from AL.com, where the league’s 14 sports information directors make their selections.

Here, we’ve gathered all three that include Arkansas players in one list. It should help in the coming two months when we all get excited for the season to kickoff in September.

Cam Little became 11th Arkansas frosh All-American; who are the other 10?

Obviously Darren McFadden, but do you remember the other Freshman All-Americans at Arkansas?

Cam Little was named to the Freshman All-American team on Wednesday by the Football Writers Association. In being named, the Oklahoma native became the 11th such player to be bestowed with that honor from an Arkansas team.

We decided to look back through the last 20-plus years of Hogs history and remember the greats who came before him.

Some you will remember clearly (hint: his name rhymes with Schmarren McFadschen). Some a bit less so (no hint coming there; you’ll have to scroll). But all 10 were and remain Arkansas legends much the same as Little likely will be himself.

Here’s a look back at the 10 previous Freshman All-Americans from the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Arkansas kicker Cam Little named Freshman All-American

Arkansas kicker Cam Little named Freshman All-American by Football Writers Association.

Arkansas kicker Cam Little’s first year on campus was, even before Monday, considered a wild success.

When the Oklahoma native was named Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America, what most who watched him only thought, ended up validated.

Little made 20 of 24 field goal tries and was 46 of 46 on extra-points during his first season in a Razorbacks uniform. His eclipsing of the 100-point mark was only the sixth time such a feat had been accomplished in school history. The 20 field goals tied for third most in an Arkansas single season.

Little is on pace to overtake Zach Hocker as the school’s all-time leading scorer. Here at Razorbacks Wire, we called him potentially the best kicker in school history. Already.

The honor means he’s the 11th player in Arkansas history to be named Freshman All-American.

Could Cam Little go down as greatest Hogs kicker in history?

Cam Little has one final game to play in this 2021 Arkansas football season. And one final field goal will put him even closer to the Razorbacks’ all-time top 10.

Already.

Little, a freshman kicker from Oklahoma, has been a revelation for the Hogs during his first year. He made 19 of his 23 field-goal attempts and all 43 of his extra-points as Arkansas put together its best regular season since 2011.

Those 19 makes tie him for 13th in school history with Bruce Lahay who played with the Razorbacks from 1978-81. The 100 points scored via the uprights doesn’t see Little in the top 14 yet, but the way he is trending, give it time.

“I’m glad he’s a freshman,” Hogs coach Sam Pittman said. “I’m glad that he’s accountable. I don’t really question whether he’s going to make a field goal or not. I know he hasn’t made them all, but he’s made almost all of them, especially in key moments.”

Former Arkansas kicker Zach Hocker is largely considered the best to play the position at the school. He holds the record for points (354), point-afters (171) and field goals (61). Extrapolate Little’s numbers to his senior season, though, and those marks would be shattered.

But even he doesn’t reach those heights, Little will be remembered. His game against LSU on November 13 – a 16-13 Arkansas win overtime – was massive. He booted three field goals that day. The week before, when Arkansas became bowl-eligible with a win against Mississippi State, he made another three – from 46, 48 and 51 yards – as the Hogs won by three points.

“He’s a really good pressure guy,” Pittman said. “I think it’s just the guy’s makeup, you know? I just know that he’s a cool customer and very confident. Our team believes in him, I can promise you that.”

Two Razorbacks land on All-SEC Freshman team

Kicker Cam Little and running back Rocket Sanders were named among the SEC’s best freshmen Thursday.

Rocket Sanders established his presence as the top freshman skill player on the Arkansas roster almost immediately. Cam Little ended the 2021 season as not only the best freshman kicker in the SEC, but perhaps the nation.

As such, the two were named to the All-SEC Freshman team on Thursday.

Sanders was the No. 2 Arkansas running back all season, finishing third on the team yards rushing with 499 yards. He ran the ball 101 times and had three touchdowns on the ground, as well.

The Florida native was recruited to Arkansas as a wide receiver and showed clear skill catching the ball. His 11 receptions led all Arkansas backs and they went for 109 yards and a touchdown.

Little was the Razorbacks’ No. 1 kicker since arriving in the spring. He was 19 of 23 on field goals this season. The 19 makes were tied for the most by any Arkansas kicker since Zach Hocker made 21 in 2011.

Only one freshman kicker in FBS, Kent State’s Andrew Glass, made more field goals (20).

Arkansas kicker Cam Little named SEC Specialist of the Week

Arkansas kicker Cam Little earned his third SEC award after a 3-for-3 day in the Hogs’ win over LSU.

During Arkansas’ bye week, we here at Razorbacks Wire ranked the Hogs’ freshmen in a top five power order. We’re now here to say, officially: Our bad.

Arkansas freshman Cam Little was named SEC Specialist of the Week after his 3-for-3 game against LSU on Saturday. The perfection included the game-winning field goal in overtime, giving the Razorbacks their first win against LSU in Tiger Stadium since 2015. A week earlier, he was the Freshman of the Week for the entire league.

Again, sorry, Cam.

Little is second in the SEC with 17 field goal, only three behind the leader, Seth Small at Texas A&M. With four more field goals, Little will tie Zach Hocker for the second most makes in a single season. Arkansas has at least three games left for him to get to the mark.

The conference award is the third such for the Moore, Oklahoma, native, having previously earned Freshman of the Week twice before. By doing so, he became Arkansas’ first freshmen to capture the honor two times since Dre Greenlaw in 2015.

Montaric Brown, literally, steals the show as Arkansas’ Player of the Game against LSU

These were the Razorbacks who stood out Saturday in Arkansas’ 16-13 win against LSU.

Arkansas’ thrilling 16-13 overtime win over LSU was perhaps the biggest win of the Razorbacks season.

LSU entered the game with a 4-5 record, but it’s LSU. The Tigers are the second biggest team in the country, as far as non-SEC folks are concerned, in the conference, behind only Alabama. The college football world knows the difficulty of playing in Tiger Stadium. And at night? Get out of here. LSU rarely loses at home under the lights.

But Arkansas find a way, despite the grime and muck of the first two-and-a-half quarters (or, the entire game, if you wish), the Razorbacks didn’t buckle and didn’t quit. They left with the program’s fourth win in Baton Rouge since joining the SEC in 1992.

These three players are a major reason why.
