Ahead of the final round of this year’s U.S. Open, Phil Mickelson called Xander Schauffele “the most underrated player in the game, possibly the best”. Over the last few years it seems like Xander’s name has been near the top of the leaderboard at every big event on the calendar. This September he produced another runner-up finish in the season long FedEx Cup race and notched his fourth consecutive Top-6 finish in the U.S. Open.

One of the world’s best from tee-to-green, Xander comes into this year’s Masters Tournament ranked 7th in the Official World Golf Rankings and is one of the betting favorites. Here is a look at the equipment he will use when he tees it up in this autumn edition of The Masters.

DRIVER

Xander ranked 8th on the PGA TOUR in strokes gained off-the-tee this year and said that it only took a few swings in testing for him to be impressed by the MAVRIK driver. He particularly liked the increased ball speeds he’s seen both in Trackman testing and on the course. Ahead of last year’s President’s Cup Xander said “From the minute we tested it, I knew 2020 couldn’t get here soon enough.”

FAIRWAY(S)

MAVRIK Sub Zero 3 Wood – Xander loves the compact head, face shape, and leading edge in the MAVRIK Sub Zero, which allows him to work the ball more easily.

Rogue Sub-Zero 5-Wood – Rogue was first fairway wood to feature Callaway’s Jailbreak Technology that promotes exceptionally high ball speeds. It’s been in Xander’s bag for the last three seasons.

IRONS

Xander had these forged Tour Performance Irons in the bag for his victories at the WGC-HSBC Champions and the Sentry Tournament of Champions. He has recently put a set of Callaway Prototype Irons in play.

GOLF BALL

Xander is playing the new Chrome Soft X Golf Ball on Tour and has commented how he likes the ball speeds off the tee along with the feel and control he gets around the green.

WEDGES

Xander plays a JAWS MD5 52º S-grind wedge and enjoys the added spin that he gets with the JAWS grooves.  The tight radius, compact shape, and straighter leading edge makes it easy for clean contact and provide maximum spin and control.

PUTTER

Xander’s putter is a Tour Only Odyssey Red Seven with a crank-hosel. It features Odyssey’s innovative Stroke Lab shaft to help promote more consistency in his stroke. He likes how the shaft helps his performance and he likes the audio feedback of it as well. You can check out the latest Odyssey Seven models at odysseygolf.com.

Lefty enters his 29th US Open continuing his search to become the 6th player ever to win the coveted Career Grand Slam. With six runner-up finishes in our National Championship, a win this year at Winged Foot would not only further establish him as one of the best to ever play the game, but would bring him sweet redemption from his 2nd place finish at Winged Foot in 2006. Phil has been playing amazing golf in the weeks leading up to Winged Foot, hitting bombs, making birdies, and chalking up a “W” in his first Champions Tour event. Always dialed in with his equipment, here as a look at the clubs Phil will use as he tries to claim his first US Open title.

DRIVER

Phil has been hitting some absolute BOMB’s this year with his MAVRIK Sub-Zero Driver. Phil plays his driver at 9° and not only loves the ballspeed MAVRIK gives him, but a high MOI construction offers more forgiveness so he can be more accurate. At 50, Phil is still one of the longest and fittest guys out on Tour. Course length won’t be an issue for Lefty at a historically tough Winged Foot.

FAIRWAY(S)

The MAVRIK Sub Zero 3-Wood has been in Phil’s bag since the start of the year. He plays it at a strong 13.5° loft and is a great option for him both off the tee, and when he needs to reach a long Par 5 in two. With notoriously brutal rough and Winged Foot’s two Par 5’s playing 535 and 633 yards, you will probably see him go to this club more than few times throughout the week.

IRONS

Phil has one of the more interesting iron set-ups in the game, using a combo set of four different models of Callaway Irons. His driving iron is an 18° X-Forged Utility iron that he likes to hit very low with a lot of rollout. His long irons (4-6) are Callaway’s Epic Forged irons which he says has really helped him dial in his spin rates in that part of the bag. For the lower irons Phil plays an Apex Pro 7 iron and the APEX MB’s (Muscleback) in 8-PW that give him the turf interaction and precision he is looking for to go birdie hunting.

GOLF BALL

Phil has played the Chrome Soft X Triple Track ball since his 2019 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am victory. He loves the combination of ball speed off the tee and the control with his irons and wedges. He also loves the benefits of Triple Track Technology, which helps golfers improve alignment and particularly helps promote better putting accuracy.

WEDGES

Phil co-created the PM Grind 19 Wedges with Callaway Chief Designer and legendary wedge maker Roger Cleveland. They worked on improvements to the PM Grind that make it easier to hit three essential shots Phil thinks every golfer needs: the knockdown, the hit and check, and the “Phlop”. Phil has one of the best and most versatile short games in the world, a useful tool when navigating tricky Winged Foot.

PUTTER

Phil has played most of this season with a custom Odyssey blade putter modeled closely after the classic 8802 head shape. Phil has his equipped with a White Hot XG insert, and Phil Mickelson stamping on the bottom. Just one of the many perks of being a 5-time Major Champion.

DRIVER

Epic Flash Sub-Zero

Marc has been playing the driver all this year. The Epic Flash Driver features the groundbreaking Flash Face technology developed using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. It is the only Driver to earn a flawless 20/20 on Golf Digest’s Hot List.

Epic Flash Sub-Zero

Epic Flash is the first ever fairway wood with our groundbreaking Flash Face Technology to promote faster ball speeds. These fairway woods also feature our Jailbreak Technology and Hyper Speed Face Cup to create even more ball speeds for more distance.

UTILITY IRON

X-Forged UT

Marc uses his X-Forged Utility Iron when he has to hit the Fairway or wants to have a shot at the green on a Par 5. The combination of accuracy and control really helps Marc when he really has to pull off a challenging shot.

IRONS

Apex Pro 19 Irons

Marc has been playing the new Apex Pro’s since they came out early this year. He loves the classic shape along with the feel and workability of these irons.

GOLF BALL

Chrome Soft X

For the Chrome Soft X Golf Ball, Leishman especially likes the speed off the driver and the spin and control he gets into the green. The Graphene infused Dual Soft Fast Core helps maximize compression and provide that added speed with less spin.

WEDGES

JAWS MD5 Wedges

Marc was instrumental in the development and design of new JAWS MD5 Wedges. Providing valuable feedback from the TOUR on shapes, finishes, and versatility. No wonder he made the switch as soon as they were available.
