2024 five-star quarterback, LSU target announces commitment

Julian Sayin committed to Alabama over LSU and Georgia.

LSU has been in the running for five-star quarterback [autotag]Julian Sayin[/autotag] for a while, and on Wednesday, he made his commitment official, but not to LSU.

Sayin announced his commitment to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Sayin is a six-foot-one, 185-pound quarterback from Carlsbad, California where he plays for Carlsbad High School. The Lancers finished the regular season 9-1 with their only loss coming in week two to Inglewood 35-18. The Lancers were 6-0 in their division and will host the Poway Titans in the Open Division Semifinals.

There is still a lot of time between now and his signing day as he is only a junior in high school. Coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] will likely be keeping up with him and his recruitment, and it’s always possible we could see a flip further down the line.

LSU’s 2024 class currently features just five commits, but it ranks fourth in the country per the 247Sports Composite.

5-star quarterback prospect to choose between LSU, Alabama and Georgia on Wednesday

Carlsbad (Calif.) QB Julian Sayin will choose between the three SEC programs on ESPN at 3:45 CT.

LSU is off to a nice start on the recruiting trail in 2024, and it could get a massive boost this week.

Five-star Carlsbad, California, quarterback [autotag]Julian Sayin[/autotag] will announce his college decision on Wednesday, which will be aired on ESPN’s College Football Live at 3:45 p.m. CT. The 6-foot-1 passer has narrowed his list of schools down to Alabama and Georgia, as well as the Tigers.

Sayin is the No. 2 quarterback and No. 14 overall prospect in the 2024 class, per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The Crimson Tide are currently seen as the favorite, and Nick Saban’s team received four Crystal Ball projections on Sunday and Monday.

He had recently visited Tuscaloosa but also took unofficial visits to Baton Rouge in June and again on Sept. 25. ‘Bama is also a heavy favorite per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine at 71.7%, followed by the Bulldogs (13.1%) and LSU (9.5%).

Even if coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] misses on Sayin, LSU has other elite quarterback options in 2024. It has also heavily recruited five-star quarterback [autotag]DJ Lagway[/autotag] and [autotag]Jadyn Davis[/autotag], though both seem to be trending elsewhere.

LSU’s five-man 2024 class currently ranks as the fourth-best in the nation, per the 247Sports Composite.

5-star quarterback set to visit LSU this weekend

The Tigers will host the top quarterback from California in the 2024 class.

[autotag]Julian Sayin[/autotag] is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound quarterback from Carlsbad, California, where he plays for Carlsbad High School. Sayin is ranked as a five-star prospect by Rivals and as the No. 5 player overall for the class of 2024.

He announced on Twitter that he will be in town for this weekend’s contest against New Mexico on Saturday night. This will be the third time Sayin has taken a trip to Baton Rouge to see [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and the Tigers.

Currently, Georgia is a 62% favorite to land him per on3. Sayin may only be six-foot-one, but that doesn’t hinder him at all. He can do everything he is asked to do and more. He has a cannon for an arm, great awareness in the pocket, great escapability, he does a great job progressing through reads, and he makes off-platform throws look like a piece of cake.

Those traits are what make him the No. 1 quarterback in the state of California and a highly sought-after recruit by every top school in the country.

LSU makes the top 13 for 5-star 2024 defensive lineman

The Tigers were among a high-profile list of programs for T.A. Cunningham.

[autotag]T.A. Cunningham[/autotag] is a 6-foot-6, 265-pound five-star defensive lineman from Los Alamitos, California, where he plays for Los Alamitos High School.

Cunningham spent the past two seasons at two different high schools in Georgia before moving all the way across the country to join a  program that finished last year 9-2 with a loss in the playoffs to St. John Bosco. As of now, there is currently no favorite to land Cunningham per On3, but he is Crystal Balled to go to Oklahoma per 247Sports.

Cunningham may have moved from Georgia to California, but his top 13 is littered with teams from the east coast. Only two teams from the west coast made the cut: USC (with new coach Lincoln Riley) and UCLA.

Other than that, the list consists of four SEC schools (LSU, Florida, Tennessee, and Texas A&M), three Big Ten schools (Penn State, Michigan, and Michigan State), two ACC schools (Miami and Florida State), a Big 12 school in the Sooners, as well as an Ohio Valley school in Tennessee State.

5-star quarterback target locks in June official visit to LSU

Jaden Rashada has set official visit dates to both LSU and an SEC rival.

LSU’s recruitment of the 2023 quarterbacks continues to get more interesting as another five-star will be visiting campus.

According to 247Sports, [autotag]Jaden Rashada[/autotag] — a five-star recruit from Pittsburg, California — will be taking an official visit from June 6-8. He also has one lined up with division rival Texas A&M several days prior.

LSU’s quarterback targets in 2023 could now be down to three players: Rashada, [autotag]Dante Moore[/autotag] and [autotag]Rickie Collins[/autotag]. Moore, a Michigan prospect, is uncommitted while Collins, a Baton Rouge native, is currently committed to Purdue, but his recruitment is far from over.

LSU doesn’t appear to be a serious contender for [autotag]Arch Manning[/autotag] and Louisiana native [autotag]Eli Holstein[/autotag] recently committed to Alabama.

247Sports has Rashada as the fifth-best quarterback in the class of 2023. His scouting report mentions his poise in the pocket and ability to add touch to throws.

LSU is still probably fighting an uphill battle here, and I don’t think the Tigers are the favorite, but they appear to be right in the thick of it. If [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and staff can pull this off, it would be a big win.

LSU lands a top 150 defensive back commit for 2023

Daylen Austin became the sixth commit in LSU’s class, moving it up to No. 11 in the national rankings.

LSU picked up its second commitment in two days on Monday as four-star Long Beach, California, cornerback [autotag]Daylen Austin[/autotag] pledged to coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and the Tigers. That came one day after four-star Louisiana running back [autotag]Trey Holly[/autotag] committed on Sunday.

Austin is currently rated as the No. 143 overall player and No. 16 cornerback in the 2023 class. He received an offer on Feb. 15, and he now becomes the sixth member of LSU’s 2023 class.

He had previously scheduled official visits to Michigan State and Penn State for this summer and fall, respectively, and it’s not clear at this time whether he still intends to take those visits.

Austin trimmed his list of potential schools down to eight on April 21, and it seems he’s seen enough to make a decision despite not taking a visit to Baton Rouge.

Any time you can get a recruit to leave California and head east of the Mississippi (albeit barely), it’s a big win. With Austin’s addition to the class, LSU moves up one spot in the 247Sports Composite rankings to No. 11.
