USC at California odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s USC at California odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 8 USC Trojans (12-0, 2-0 Pac-12) travel to meet the California Golden Bears (9-5, 2-1) Thursday at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, Calif. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the USC vs. California odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

USC paddled Georgia Tech 67-53 on a neutral floor Dec. 18 prior to the holidays and a COVID pause. That’s about the only thing that could cool off the Trojans who won the first 12 games while covering seven of the outings.

Cal has one game under its belt since returning from the holidays, roughing up Arizona State at home by a 74-50 count as a 1.5-point favorite. Cal has won seven of its last eight games overall while going 8-1 ATS in its previous nine outings.

USC at California odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

USC 64, California 62

Money line

USC (-230) will cost you more than two times your potential return, and that’s a little on the expensive side considering the long layoff. There might be considerable rusty for the unbeaten Trojans, and a date with the Golden Bears is a tough assignment.

PASS.

Against the spread

CALIFORNIA +5.5 (-115) is worth a roll of the dice on its home court.

We’ve seen Cal play recently, and they looked really good in a rout of Arizona State. The Bears are 3-0 SU/2-1 ATS in three games since the Trojans have played last. Cal is in a nice rhythm, while USC will take a while to find its sea legs.

Over/Under

The UNDER 127.5 (-107) is an awfully low number, but that’s the lean here.

We have USC coming back after a considerable layoff, and Cal has hit the Under in five of the past six outings. The Bears rank 42nd in the nation with just 61.6 PPG allowed, and they’re allowing the opponent to hit just 39.1% from the field. Points will be at a premium Thursday.

The Oregon Ducks (3-1, 3-1 Pac-12) visit the California Bears (0-3, 0-3) Saturday for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. Below, we analyze the Oregon-California college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Oregon at California: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 11:10 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Oregon -358 (bet $358 to win $100) | California +280 (bet $100 to win $280)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Oregon -9.5 (-115) | California +9.5 (-106)
  • Over/Under: 58.5 (O: -106 | U: -115)

Oregon at California: Three things to know

  1. Oregon was stunned in its rivalry game last week at Oregon State, falling 41-38 as 13-point favorites. It was their first loss of the season. The offense hasn’t been an issue, as they have scored 35 or more points in each of their four games, averaging 38.5 PPG overall.
  2. The Ducks are averaging 491.8 total yards per game to rank 14th in the nation while rolling up 289.5 passing yards per game to check in 23rd in the country. Defensively, Oregon is allowing 208.3 rushing yards per game, and 29.8 PPG to rank 72nd overall.
  3. Cal has dropped each of its three games to date, although the previous two have been one-score affairs. That includes a 24-23 loss in ‘The Game’ against rival Stanford last week, as they grabbed a push. The Under has connected in two of three for Cal so far, including its only home game to date.

Oregon at California: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Oregon 45, California 20

Money line (ML)

Oregon (-358) will cost you more than three and a half times your potential return, and that’s just not a good long-term strategy. AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread (ATS)

OREGON -9.5 (-115) is a great play on the road, especially if this number is able to stay in the single digits. The Ducks are 6-2 ATS in the past eight following an ATS loss, and they’re 5-2 ATS in the previous seven as a road favorite.

California +9.5 (-106) is a dismal 1-6-1 ATS in the past eight at home, and they’re just 2-7 ATS in the past nine tries against Oregon.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 58.5 (-106) is also a strong play, as the Over has connected in each of the past four meetings in Berkeley. The total has gone Over in each of the past five road contests for Oregon, and the Over is 7-3 in Oregon’s last 10 games. The Ducks have a good chance of coming close to the Over themselves in this game, as they’re angry following their first loss of the season.

  • ASU QB Jayden Daniels completed only 11 of 23 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown but rushed for 111 yards in the Sun Devils’ 28-27 loss to USC.
  • ASU RB DeaMonte Trayanum rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns, while RB Rachaad White rushed for 76 yards and caught three passes for 70 yards and a touchdown.

California at Arizona State: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Arizona State 24, California 21

Money line (ML)

The Sun Devils suffered a brutal loss to USC last week ad struggled in the passing game but controlled the game for 55 minutes. They will control the tempo with their rushing attack again and get the win. The line is good enough to bet the money line. Take ARIZONA STATE (-154).

Against the spread (ATS)

Arizona State was brutal against the spread last season when favored, covering the spread in only one of seven such games. The Sun Devils have been very good at winning close games and Cal will be tough enough to keep it close. Take CAL +3.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

The game will come close. Arizona State will be able to pass the ball better but will rely on the run game, which will slow the game down. ASU was 6-7 O/U in 2019 and its opener went Under the total last week. Take UNDER 46.5 POINTS (-106).
