Gators remain in good position for 3-star Texas receiver

Caleb Douglas spoke highly of UF receivers coach Keary Colbert.

Missouri City (TX) Hightower receiver Caleb Douglas has called Florida his leader in the past, and it seems the team remains in a good spot to land the services of the three-star 2022 prospect. Douglas, who has previously been committed to Baylor and, most recently, USC, took a visit to Gainesville this past weekend, and receivers coach Keary Colbert stopped by his home for a visit on Wednesday while the staff was on the road.

Douglas is the No. 64 receiver and No. 457 overall prospect on the 247Sports Composite. He picked up an offer from UF shortly after decommitting from the Trojans on Nov. 30, and he said that his relationship with Colbert, who was also his primary recruiter at Southern Cal, is a driving factor for the Gators’ lead.

“It went great,” Douglas said of his visit, per On3’s Corey Bender. “Me and coach KC have been like that, so really it was just him coming to my house. We were just talking and chillin’, really.”

“We watched ESPN and saw Drake (London) come across the screen from USC. He was like, ‘Man, you guys are really similar. You guys play a lot of sports.’ He was like, ‘Your ceiling is super, super high because this is just you doing it during the season and not training for it. When you actually get the time to train for it, you’re going to be great.’

“(Colbert’s) great. He can really relate to us because he did it himself. At USC, he received for 1,000 yards and did all that we want to do, so he can actually give us real input. He isn’t a wide receivers coach who didn’t play the position, so whatever he knows, he isn’t lying about it; it’s true.”

Douglas has other suitors, namely LSU, which he intends to visit in an official capacity the weekend of Jan. 28. Still, it seems that Florida remains the leader in the clubhouse to secure his pledge.

New assistant Cortez Hankton offers 2022 Texas wide receiver, sets official visit

LSU aims at uncommitted wide receiver from Texas.

New LSU Tigers wide receiver coach Cortez Hankton has officially hit the recruiting trail for the Bayou Bengals. His first offer went out to 2022 four-star wide receiver Caleb Douglas of Missouri City, Texas.

Douglas was previously committed to the USC Trojans before backing out of his pledge on Nov. 30. Douglas will take an official visit on Jan. 28. That is the same day that four-star safety Jacoby Mathews will be back in Baton Rouge as well.

Currently, the Tigers have just one commitment at the wide receiver position after losing a total of five receivers from the current roster. LSU flipped a Miami pledge just prior to signing day to land their lone pass catcher of the class. Douglas brings size to the position as well as the ability to create after the catch. He also showed off his ability to snag the ball out of the air, with one hand if needed.

Gators ahead of the pack for this 3-star wide receiver

This guy appears to be all-in on Florida heading into his official visit.

Florida football continues to make its push on the recruiting trail ahead of the official visit period starting in just over a week. The latest name to surface is three-star wide receiver Caleb Douglas, who has the Gators out front for his services according to Gators Online.

While the 6-foot-3-inch, 182-pound pass-catcher from Missouri City, Texas, has yet to visit the university’s campus, he appears to be high on making Gainesville his destination after decommitting from the USC Trojans late November. Douglas also has offers on the table from the Baylor Bears, Virginia Tech Hokies and Texas Longhorns, in addition to Florida. However, according to a conversation with Gators Online, the Orange and Blue are currently his primary focus. Here is what he had to say.

“They’re on top; they’re for surely on top. I like that if I was to go there, I would have a chance to play as a freshman because they are not super deep at the wide receiver corps. On top of that, I like the coaching staff. They are very cool. Outside of football, if I want to talk to them, I know I could.”

When asked about other schools in the running, he simply stated, “I haven’t really been considering all the other schools. We’ve been talking and all that, but the vibes are different at Florida, so I don’t even know yet.” The feeling appears to be pretty mutual, as Billy Napier and his staff have made Douglas one of their top priorities considering that he was the very first prep to receive an offer from the new regime.

Douglas will join nearly a dozen prospects on Jan. 14 for their official visit to the University of Florida. There is little doubt that he will like what he sees and hopefully, given his positivity for the new staff so far, he turns out to be a slam-dunk commitment for the 2022 class.

Billy Napier recruiting era underway as Florida offers this 3-star WR

Billy Napier hands out his first offer as Florida’s head coach with only a few months to patch together an SEC-level recruiting class.

Billy Napier wasted no time hitting the recruiting trail after his introductory press conference at Florida. The new Gators head coach and his staff made several visits to recruits on Monday, and three-star receiver Caleb Douglas has officially landed the first offer of the Napier Era in Florida, according to 247Sports.

Napier has wanted Douglas for a while. The 6-foot-3-inch, 185-pound receiver was offered to play at Lousiana early in on his recruitment. Now that Napier has an SEC gig, he still thinks Douglas is a valuable asset.

“They got the coaching job at Florida and they all rewatched my film and everything and they felt like I was an SEC type category player,” Douglas said. “The quarterbacks coach came by my school. He came to me and offered me and everything, so that is basically how it all went. It was great meeting with him.”

Douglas admits that he needs to brush up on the University of Florida, but he’s heard that Gainesville is a “beautiful city.” He was previously committed to Baylor and USC but has backed off both schools. The only other SEC offer he currently has is from Vanderbilt, so Florida instantly becomes one of the higher-profile programs vying for him.

The Gators like his length and ball skills, and Napier clearly has something in mind for him in his offense. Douglas is taking his time and doesn’t yet have plans to visit the Swamp, but he should have an update toward the end of the year.

Douglas is ranked as 109th-best receiver on the 247Sports Composite and his rating has been trending up in the last two updates.
