5 studs from preseason finale loss vs. Chiefs

Five Cleveland Browns players who stood out in their final preseason game against the Chiefs.

The Cleveland Browns lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in a nail-biter on Saturday during their preseason finale. The players showed a lot of heart, many of them going into their final game as a member of the Browns as the team continues to work through their roster construction and cutdowns.

While the team outcome was less than ideal, here are the top five studs in the battle against the Chiefs in this 33-32 loss. I decided to leave off duds this week due to the nature of cutdowns set to be finalized on Tuesday, August 28.

Browns move on from UDFA rookie CB Caleb Biggers

The Browns are moving on from the undrafted rookie cornerback. He is a firm practice squad candidate.

The Cleveland Browns have had a busy day. First, they traded practice squad offensive tackle Tyrone Wheatley Jr. to the New England Patriots for their new third running back Pierre Strong Jr. Now they have begun their cutdowns as the team is moving on from undrafted rookie cornerback Caleb Biggers (according to The OBR’s Brad Stainbrook).

While Biggers had an interception returned for a touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday, the depth the Browns possess at the cornerback position is just too deep. Look for Biggers to be a candidate to return to the Browns on the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Stay up to date on the cutdown action here.

Caleb Biggers exits game vs. Chiefs with cramps

Caleb Biggers exits preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs with an injury.

Cornerback Caleb Biggers exited the preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs at the end of the third quarter for the Cleveland Browns. The undrafted free agent walked off the field with the medical staff under his own power.  Biggers scored a pick six earlier in the game.

The big play increased the Browns’ lead over the Chiefs. The young cornerback from Boise State has had an impressive preseason. It is doubtful that Biggers makes the 53-man roster, but the undrafted free agent could be a valuable practice squad member this year.

Another touchdown for the Browns defense

The defensive unit of the Cleveland Browns has taken advantage of their opportunities in the preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs with three interceptions in the first half, returning two for touchdowns. The first was from former Chief Juan Thornhill before the youngster Caleb Biggers got a pick-six to end the first half.

Kansas City has had a hard time holding onto the football in the passing attack as Biggers took advantage of a ball that hit the receiver in the hands before bouncing off of them. Biggers likely won’t make the final roster but could have a chance to catch on the practice squad with more solid play in the second half.

PFF’s 10 highest-graded defenders in Pro Football Hall of Fame Game

There was plenty to like from the defense on Thursday

The return of football didn’t bring any starters with it but there was still plenty to like for the Cleveland Browns during Thursday’s Pro Football Hall of Fame Game victory over the New York Jets. The Browns had several players flashing during the game including linebacker Tony Fields II who was flying all over the field. Edge Alex Wright looked faster off the line of scrimmage and made several nice plays against the run.

But according to PFF, some of the best play came from the defensive backs including rookie fifth-round pick Cameron Mitchell. Let’s take a look at the 10 highest-graded Browns defenders according to PFF from the victory over the Jets.
