In 43 days, Kalen DeBoer will usher in a new era of Alabama Crimson Tide football, replacing the legendary [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] as head coach in Tuscaloosa.
Coach DeBoer and the Crimson Tide will take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Aug. 31 to kick off the 2024 college football season inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Freshman linebacker Jayshawn Ross currently wears No. 43 for the Tide but has yet to take the field in the Crimson and White.

This will be Alabama’s first season-opener at home in quite some time, as the 18-time national champs are usually selected for a nationally televised kickoff game at a neutral site against a big-time opponent.

We are back to being 43 days away from Alabama’s opening kickoff on Sept. 26. The opponent hasn’t yet been determined.
There has been a lot of uncertainty surrounding college football over the last couple of weeks, but as of right now, the season still looks like it’s a go for the SEC, ACC and Big 12.
So, what does that mean? It means that we can continue to Countdown to Kickoff en route to the Crimson Tide — and the rest of the SEC — getting things underway on Sept. 26.
With it now being Aug. 14, we are officially 43 days away from the start!
At this time, there isn’t currently anyone wearing the No. 43 for Alabama. In fact, it’s been awhile since a scholarship player wore the number. Former outside linebacker VanDarius Cowan wore it for a short period, but prior to Cowan, the most notable player to wear it was Cade Foster.
We are only 43 days from Alabama football kicking off its season. With the cancelled USC game, we’re just not sure who the opponent with be.
Alabama’s opening week game against the USC Trojans at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, has been cancelled after the Pac-12 announced its teams would play a conference-only schedule in 2020.
Yes, that was unfortunate news, and, yes, that means the Crimson Tide is looking for a new opponent to open its season on Sept. 5, but, as of right now, that is still the target date to open the season. Until that changes, we’ll continue the countdown to kickoff.
