Bears’ Byron Pringle sees Justin Fields being ‘elite’ quarterback

New Bears WR Byron Pringle is a big fan of Justin Fields, who he sees as “an elite quarterback.”

The Chicago Bears are looking to build around quarterback Justin Fields this offseason. They’ve made a few additions in free agency to start, including signing center Lucas Patrick and wide receivers Byron Pringle and Equanimeous St. Brown.

Pringle is an intriguing option at wide receiver, as he’s someone who was buried on Kansas City’s depth chart but showed promise as a playmaker in the Chiefs’ offense.

And it sounds like the allure of playing with Fields was enough to gauge Pringle’s interest. Pringle said he believes Fields will be “an elite quarterback” and that’s one of the reasons why he decided to join the Bears.

“Justin Fields, I see him as an elite quarterback,” Pringle said. “He definitely knows how to extend plays, and that is something that I did in Kansas City [with Patrick Mahomes]. When the play broke down, I always tried to get in the quarterback’s vision. So with [Fields] being able to keep plays and drives alive, I know I fit perfect in this offense, especially with a quarterback like Justin Fields.”

Bears general manager Ryan Poles knows Pringle well from his time in Kansas City, and Pringle climbed the depth chart with the Chiefs. He’s been productive in a reserve role in one of the league’s best offenses, and he has the chance to break out with the Bears.

Byron Pringle pens thank you tweet to Chiefs Kingdom

After four seasons in Kansas City, Byron Pringle is heading to the #Bears. He shared a thank you message to #ChiefsKingdom on Twitter:

Kansas City Chiefs WR Byron Pringle is heading to the windy city to play for former KC front office executive Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears.

A former undrafted free agent signing out of Kansas State in 2018, Pringle suffered an injury in the 2018 preseason and would be stashed on injured reserve all year. He surprised in 2019, making the initial 53-man roster for the Chiefs, primarily as a special teamer. With injuries to the WR corps, he’d have a breakout performance in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts, posting 103 yards and a score in a 19-13 loss. From that point onward, Pringle remained key depth for the team, playing both as a receiver and kick returner. He’d appear in 46 career regular-season games with the Chiefs, starting in eight games.

At 28 years old, Pringle heads to compete in the NFC, but he’s extraordinarily grateful for his time in Kansas City. Pringle wrote a thank you message to the organization and fans and shared it on Twitter.

Forever thankful for the opportunity the Chiefs gave me. Blessed to have been apart of great organization for the past 4 years. Thank you to my coaches, teammates, and fans!”

Pringle won two Lamar Hunt Trophies and Super Bowl LIV with the Chiefs. He also earned himself a sponsorship with the “Pringles” potato chip brand. He’ll be missed in Kansas City, both for his on-field production and his character off the field.

Updated look at Bears receiver depth after Byron Pringle, Equanimeous St. Brown signings

With Byron Pringle and Equanimeous St. Brown joining the Bears, here’s a look at where Chicago’s wide receiver depth stands.

The Chicago Bears are expected to sign wide receivers Byron Pringle and Equanimeous St. Brown, which makes them the first receiver moves in free agency for general manager Ryan Poles.

Wide receiver is one of Chicago’s top needs this offseason as surrounding quarterback Justin Fields with weapons remains a top priority. The additions of Pringle and St. Brown is just the beginning, as the Bears are expected to add another playmaker in the NFL draft.

Pringle, a former undrafted free agent by the Chiefs, slowly climbed his way up the depth chart. He’s coming of his best season, where he had 42 catches for 568 yards and five touchdowns in 17 games with the Chiefs. Where things currently stand, Pringle looks to be the No. 2 wide receiver behind Darnell Mooney.

A former sixth-round pick, St. Brown has spent his entire four-year career with the Packers. He’s served mostly as a depth option at wide receiver, which is what he figures to be in Chicago. St. Brown worked with Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy in Green Bay, so he has a good understanding of Getsy’s scheme.

With the additions of Pringle and St. Brown, here’s a look at the Bears’ wide receiver depth:

Details of WR Byron Pringle’s contract with Bears

The Bears are expected to sign WR Byron Pringle. See the details of his contract here:

The Chicago Bears have finally made some moves at wide receiver, one of which included agreeing to terms with former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Byron Pringle.

Bears general manager Ryan Poles made it clear a focal point of the offseason would be the address wide receiver, where there haven’t been any big splashes in free agency. Instead, Poles has added bargain players with the potential to contribute on offense and will likely target wide receiver in the NFL draft.

Poles knows Pringle well from his time in Kansas City, and Pringle climbed the depth chart with the Chiefs. He’s been productive in a reserve role in one of the league’s best offenses, and he has the chance to break out with the Bears.

Details of Pringle’s contract have emerged, and it’s certainly reasonable, assuming Pringle thrives in a WR2 or WR3 role. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, it’s a one-year, $6 million contract with $4 million full guaranteed and $2 million in incentives.

Pringle is coming of his best season, where he had 42 catches for 568 yards and five touchdowns in 17 games with the Chiefs. Where things currently stand, Pringle looks to be the No. 2 wide receiver behind Darnell Mooney.

Pringle’s signing comes on the heels of the Bears also signing wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, who will serve more as a depth piece than a starter like Pringle. Pringle was seemingly buried on Kansas City’s depth chart, and he has a real shot to prove himself and earn a long-term deal

Grading the Bears’ signing of WR Byron Pringle

Here’s our initial evaluation of the Bears’ signing of WR Byron Pringle.

After going days without signing a wide receiver, the Chicago Bears decided to go for a double-dip on St. Patricks Day. A couple hours after reportedly agreeing to a deal with former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, the Bears also signed former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Byron Pringle to a one-year deal worth up to $6 million.

Pringle is someone Bears general manager Ryan Poles is very familiar with, having played a role in signing him as an undrafted free agent back in 2018. Following an injury that knocked him out his rookie season, Pringle played sparingly on offense in 2019 and 2020, contributing primarily on special teams. He broke out in 2021, however, with 41 receptions for 568 yards and five touchdowns as the fourth or fifth option in a potent Chiefs offensive attack.

Now in Chicago, Pringle has the chance to build on his recent success in a receiving group desperate for production outside of Darnell Mooney. Here’s what we think of the signing.

Twitter reacts to Bears signing WR Byron Pringle

The Bears have signed another receiver in former Chief Byron Pringle. Here’s how fans are reacting.

The Chicago Bears have signed another wide receiver in former Kansas City Chief Byron Pringle. Pringle signed a one-year, prove-it deal worth $6 million with $4 million guaranteed.

It’s not a surprising move considering new general manager Ryan Poles hails form Kansas City and saw exactly what Pringle could do. It’s a solid move for the Bears and gives quarterback Justin Fields another weapon to work with.

Pringle is coming of his best season, where he had 42 catches for 568 yards and five touchdowns in 17 games with the Chiefs. Where things currently stand, Pringle looks to be the No. 2 wide receiver behind Darnell Mooney.

The general reaction to the move was excitement from Bears fans and disappointment from Chiefs fans, who have seen Pringle’s development in Kansas City. Pringle is a solid WR2 option for the Bears right now behind Darnell Mooney, and he’s the kind of playmaking wide receiver Poles was looking for.

Now, the assumption is the Bears will target a young, playmaking wide receiver in the NFL draft to surround Fields with more weapons on offense.

Here’s how Twitter is reacting to the depth signing of St. Brown:

Bears to sign WR Byron Pringle to 1-year deal

The Bears have added another receiver. They’re signing Byron Pringle to a one-year deal.

The Chicago Bears are signing former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Byron Pringle to a one-year deal worth $6 million with $4 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This marks general manager Ryan Poles’ second move at wide receiver after signing depth piece Equanimeous St. Brown on Thursday. Pringle is someone Poles knows well from his time in Kansas City.

Pringle is coming of his best season, where he had 42 catches for 568 yards and five touchdowns in 17 games with the Chiefs. Where things currently stand, Pringle looks to be the No. 2 wide receiver behind Darnell Mooney.

It’s a one-year, prove-it deal for Pringle, who has the potential to be a contributor in Luke Getsy’s offense with quarterback Justin Fields.

The Bears have now added two depth pieces at wide receiver with Pringle and St. Brown, which indicates they’ll be using one of their top draft picks to target a young, playmaking wide receiver.

Chiefs free agent WR Byron Pringle to sign with Bears

The #Bears are expected to sign #Chiefs free agent WR Byron Pringle according to a new report.

The Kansas City Chiefs have seemingly lost another free agent.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Chiefs free agent WR Byron Pringle is planning to sign with the Chicago Bears. It’ll be a one-year $6-million-dollar deal, with $4 million in guaranteed money. Not a bad payday for the former undrafted free agent out of Kansas State after making $2.1 million in 2021 in Kansas City.

The front office in Chicago is now run by former Chiefs executive Ryan Poles, so this fit makes plenty of sense for the Bears. Pringle is coming off of a career year in Kansas City, where he posted 42 catches on 60 targets for 568 yards and five touchdown grabs. He also was the team’s starting kick returner with 25 returns for 621 yards.

The good news here is that Pringle’s contract makes the Chiefs eligible to receive a compensatory pick in the 2023 NFL draft for the time being. The bad news here is that the WR market is expected to pick up and it’s another option off the table for the team.

Pringle was a valuable asset for Kansas City because of his ability to fill in at a variety of the different WR spots on offense. He also has the special teams value that the team will need to find elsewhere.

Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen trade incredible second-quarter TD passes

Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen are putting on a show

It is the time of the season for superhuman efforts. Patrick Mahomes provides them on a regular basis. As has Josh Allen this season.

So, why should anyone be surprised when they deliver in the clutch.

Mahomes is putting on a show with his legs and arms in Sunday’s Divisional Round game with the Buffalo Bills.

These plays in the second quarter resulted in a touchdown that gave Kansas City a 14-7 lead.

The touchdown play was a 2-yard pass to Byron Pringle that was anything but ordinary.

Allen followed by driving the Bills 75 yards in 75 seconds.

The PAT following the TD pass to Gabriel Davis left the game tied at 14 approaching halftime.
