Below, you will find everything you need to know ahead of the game between Auburn and Troy, including a broadcast guide, a projected pitching matchup, and players to watch.

Auburn storms back to defeat Mississippi State in wild series finale

Auburn and Mississippi State provided offensive fireworks for the second game in a row on Sunday.

If you enjoy offensive-heavy baseball, then the series between Auburn and Mississippi State was perfect for you.

After a low-scoring affair on Friday, Auburn and Mississippi State combined to score 44 runs over the final two games. In Sunday’s finale, the Tigers claimed the series with a 12-11 win over Mississippi State.

In a similar fashion to Saturday’s 11-10 win for Mississippi State, Auburn trailed the Bulldogs by a heavy margin in Sunday’s game before flipping the switch and starting a comeback.

The Tigers trailed Mississippi State, 7-0, through the first three innings of the game before hanging a three spot in the bottom of the 4th inning. For the third-straight game, [autotag]Cooper McMurray[/autotag] put Auburn on the board with a home run. His three-run blast trimmed the Bulldogs’ lead to 7-3.

“I knew he had a good slider so I was just trying to stay on it,” McMurray said of Mississippi State pitcher Jurrangelo Cijintje. “Fortunately he gave me one over the plate with two strikes and I was able to pull it down the line. Thank God it stayed fair. Doing whatever we can to help the team win. I’m blessed to be in that situation.”

The momentum would shift back to the Bulldogs in the top of the 5th inning, as two passed balls from Auburn’s [autotag]Will Cannon[/autotag] sent home two Mississippi State base runners to extend their lead to 9-3.

McMurray made his presence felt again in the bottom of the 6th inning as he crushed his second home run of the game off of the left field foul pole to cut Mississippi State’s lead to four. [autotag]Nate LaRue[/autotag] joined the party as well by hitting a two-run blast of his own two at-bats later to cut the Bulldog advantage to 9-7.

A sacrifice fly by [autotag]Kason Howell[/autotag] in the 7th inning would get Auburn to within one, 9-8. Mississippi State would add another run in the 8th on a single by Kellum Clark to bring the Bulldogs’ advantage to 10-8.

With one out in the 8th inning, and two runners on, [autotag]Bryson Ware[/autotag] smacked a three-run shot on the first pitch of the at-bat to left field to put Auburn ahead, 12-11. Mississippi State scored an unearned run in the top of the 9th to tie the game, but [autotag]Cole Foster[/autotag] would deliver the dagger in the bottom of the inning. His double to center field was deep enough to score [autotag]Josh Hall[/autotag], thus giving Auburn the series win.

“I’m just proud of them to keep fighting through everything that happens,” head coach [autotag]Butch Thompson[/autotag] said Sunday. “If this is the new way this game is played, I’m the one who has to adjust more. They just need to keep fighting and find their opportunities when they can have success.”

Auburn has another challenging weekend ahead of them, as they travel to No. 6 South Carolina for another important SEC series starting Friday at 6 p.m. CT at Founders Park in Columbia. Before the road trip, the Tigers will host in-state foe Troy for a midweek clash on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT.

Vail’s gem leads Auburn to series-opening win over Mississippi State

The southpaw struck out a season-high 10 batters in Auburn’s 2-1 win over Mississippi State on Friday.

The Auburn Tigers entered this weekend’s series with Mississippi State needing a series win to snap a three-series losing streak. In order to do that, top-notch would be required.

[autotag]Tommy Vail[/autotag] answered the call as he turned in a scoreless start while recording a season-high in strikeouts.

Vail turned in 5.0 innings of three-hit baseball. He would also refuse to allow a run while striking out 10 batters in Auburn’s 2-1 win over Mississippi State on Friday at Plainsman Park.

“What’s important is having the same spirit, the same attitude, and just getting ready to get another win,” Vail said Friday. “Early in the game, I’m expecting them to be pretty patient. I knew I could attack in the zone early and then expand later on.”

Head coach [autotag]Butch Thompson[/autotag] says that if Auburn’s pitching is that good every game, his squad will remain competitive throughout the second half of the SEC slate.

“We’re pitching a little better. It started last weekend,” Thompson said after Friday’s win. “This gives us a chance. If we can pitch competitively, that defense is ready to play. We pitched with better sequences and took the sting out of the swing.”

Auburn got on the board first in the low-scoring affair. After failing to record a hit and having just two baserunners through the first four innings, Auburn’s [autotag]Cooper McMurray[/autotag] crushed a 398-foot solo home run to right field to give Auburn the 1-0 lead.

The Bulldogs would tie the game in the bottom of the 7th inning on an infield single by leadoff batter David Mershon that scored Amani Larry from 3rd base.

Auburn’s final blow came in the bottom of the 8th inning when [autotag]Bobby Peirce[/autotag] hit a sacrifice fly to score [autotag]Chris Stanfield[/autotag] to put Auburn ahead, 2-1.

“I’m just happy to get the win,” Stanfield said of the play. “I saw it go up in the air and saw his back to me. I said, ‘Let me take a chance’ and it ended up working out. I was just trying to take the game into my own hands. It was a close game, and I knew Bobby was coming. I had full trust that Bobby would get the job done. I was just happy to be a part of it.”

Zach Bland/Auburn Tigers

[autotag]Will Cannon[/autotag] entered the game and slammed the door for the Tigers, as he faced the minimum to solidify the win and earn his 4th save of the year. [autotag]Tanner Bauman[/autotag] is credited with the win on the mound by tossing 1.1 innings of no-hit baseball in relief.

Game two between the Tigers and Bulldogs is set for Saturday afternoon at 2 P.M. CT and can be seen on SEC Network+. [autotag]Christian Herberholz[/autotag] (0-3, 5.74) will toe the rubber for Auburn on Saturday, battling Mississippi State’s Colby Holcombe (2-2, 5.32).

Auburn vs. Mississippi State: How to watch Auburn’s key series against the Bulldogs

The Tigers are looking to start the second half of conference play with a big win.

Auburn baseball is welcoming the Mississippi State Bulldogs to town this weekend, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

The Tigers (21-15-1, 5-10 SEC) are looking to start the second half of conference play with a series win over a Bulldogs team that is starting to heat up.

They have won their past two SEC series, taking down Alabama in Tuscaloosa and Ole Miss at home. Auburn knows how good the Crimson Tide are, having lost two games to them this past weekend.

“We’re home to start the second half, and this is a huge series,” head coach [autotag]Butch Thompson[/autotag] said. “It’s huge for everybody. Every matchup in this league is huge this week.

“It always feels the same for me regardless of what team it is. We’ve had a chance to win every series except maybe the first one on the road,” Thompson added. “We have to take it a step up. We need to be at a better brand than we’ve played to have a chance to win this series.”

Below, you will find everything you need to know ahead of the game between Auburn and Mississippi State, including a broadcast guide, a projected pitching matchup, and players to watch.

Auburn’s bats go quiet in series loss to Alabama

The Tigers fell 6-1 to Alabama to drop the series.

Auburn’s offense was unable to get going in the decisive game three against Alabama as the Tigers fell 6-1 Sunday in Tuscaloosa.

The Tigers managed six hits and five walks but went 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position as they failed to take advantage of their scoring opportunities.

“A couple double plays were back-breaking in the game, momentum changers,” Auburn head coach [autotag]Butch Thompson[/autotag] said. “They pitched well enough to win. We moderately pitched better but we’ve got to continue to grow.”

Auburn fell to 20-15-1 overall and 5-10 in SEC play with the loss and have now lost their last three conference series.

“You’re playing your rival,” Thompson said. “You’ve got to be able to wear it. If you’re not where you want to be, you’ve got to keep fighting and keep going, take care of each other, keep practicing hard until we can grow, get better and be more competitive in this league.”

Auburn opened the scoring in the top of the fourth when [autotag]Chris Stanfield[/autotag] drew a two-out walk, stole second, and came around to score on a [autotag]Nate LaRue[/autotag] single.

Auburn starter [autotag]Christian Herberholz[/autotag] cruised through the first four innings before running into trouble in the fifth. He let the first two batters reach and was pulled for [autotag]Chase Isbell[/autotag], who was unable to stop the rally.

He hit the first batter to load the bases and walked in the game-tying run before surrendering a two-RBI single that gave the Crimson Tide a 3-1 lead.

They stretched it out to a 4-1 lead in the seventh inning when Drew Williamson stole home with two outs. They added two more runs in the eighth inning with a two-out double and triple to put the game away.

Auburn will return to action Tuesday when they take on Samford. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will be on the SEC Network.

Alabama evens series with Auburn in a pitcher’s duel

Auburn’s late push was not enough to earn a game-two win on Saturday evening.

After winning Friday’s series opener at Alabama in convincing fashion, Auburn hoped to play well enough on Saturday to earn their second SEC series win of the season, and their first weekend series win on the road.

However, a three-run 2nd inning was enough for the Crimson Tide to take game two of the series. A bases-loaded walk and a two-RBI double by Alabama bats in the inning aided Alabama in its’ 4-2 win over Auburn on Saturday, thus creating a winner-take-all game three on Sunday afternoon.

Those three early runs by Alabama (25-11) were crucial, as Auburn (20-14-1, 5-9) outhit the Crimson Tide, 6-5, and left just one runner on base throughout the game, as opposed to Alabama, who stranded 10 runners.

Alabama got on the board first on a bases-loaded walk from Auburn starter Drew Nelson to Andrew Pinckney in the 2nd inning and would add to the lead just two pitches later when Mac Guscette scored two runs on a double down the left field line to extend Alabama’s lead to 3-0.

Alabama added one more run in the 4th inning when [autotag]Parker Carlson[/autotag] relieved [autotag]Tommy Sheehan[/autotag] on the mound, and immediately walked Ed Johnson with the bases loaded to move the Tide ahead, 4-0.

After two straight innings of sending the minimum to the plate, Auburn found their way onto the scoreboard in the 7th inning when [autotag]Bobby Peirce[/autotag] crushed a solo home run over the left field scoreboard to cut into Alabama’s lead, 1-0.

Auburn threatened the Crimson Tide’s lead yet again in the 9th inning when the first two batters of the inning reached base — [autotag]Chris Stanfield[/autotag] with a single and a full-count walk to [autotag]Caden Green[/autotag]. Stanfield scored on a [autotag]Cole Foster[/autotag] single to cut Alabama’s lead in half, 4-2. However, the threat ended when Peirce struck out on the ensuing at-bat, and Ike Irish grounded into a double play to end the game.

Head coach [autotag]Butch Thompson[/autotag] applauded his team’s comeback effort, but hopes to one day “turn the corner.”

“I absolutely loved the engagement of our ballclub and giving us a chance when the game didn’t get started the way we wanted it to,” Thompson said after the game. “I thought we were one barrel away and had the guys who could do it.”

Alabama’s pitching deserves credit for keeping Auburn’s bats relatively quiet throughout the game. Starter Garrett McMillan allowed just one hit while striking out four over 5.0 innings of work. Zane Probst and Alton Davis also combined to allow two hits and an earned run to Auburn batters while striking out a batter and issuing just one walk.

Auburn had the most success against Hunter Furtado, as he allowed the Tigers to record three hits and one earned run off of him.

Nelson ended his start by allowing three earned runs on two hits with three walks in 1.0 inning of work. Auburn’s bullpen did a great job of holding the lead together as [autotag]John Armstrong[/autotag], Tommy Sheehan, Parker Carlson, and [autotag]Zach Crotchfelt[/autotag] combined to allow just three hits and one earned run over the final 8.0 innings. Crotchfelt struck out four batters and allowed two hits in the final three innings.

“He looked the part. He went through the entire lineup. That absolutely was his coming out party in my opinion,” Thompson said of Crotchfelt’s performance on the mound.

Auburn will have another opportunity to win the series over Alabama on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. CT from Sewell Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

Auburn holds off the ninth inning push by Alabama in game one victory

6.2 innings of scoreless baseball from Tommy Vail and home runs by Chris Stanfield and Cole Foster lift Auburn to a series-opening win.

The Auburn Tigers (20-13-1, 5-8 SEC) picked up an 8-4 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide (24-11, 4-9 SEC) in the first game of the series Friday night at Sewell Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa.

“We needed somebody to step up,” Auburn head coach [autotag]Butch Thompson[/autotag] said following Friday’s win. “It was his best outing. It was clean, it was efficient, it was great baseball. We needed this one on the road and Tommy absolutely silenced a very good lineup.”

[autotag]Tommy Vail[/autotag] got the start for the Tigers and let no runs score and only allowed two hits in a 6.2-inning effort that also saw four strikeouts and only four walks.

“It felt good to get the weekend off to a good start,” Vail said. “It’s my job to go as deep as I can and save the bullpen so we have more bullets to fire later on. It felt good to throw up zeros and know the guys behind me were playing their tails off.”

Luke Holman got the start for the Crimson Tide and allowed four runs off of four hits, walked three batters and struck out six.

[autotag]Chris Stanfield[/autotag] got the scoring started with a two-run homer in the second inning. [autotag]Caden Green[/autotag] singled home two more runs in the seventh inning.

[autotag]Cooper McMurray [/autotag] singled to bring another run in during the eighth inning. The Tigers tacked on their last three runs in the ninth inning when Green reached on an error that allowed Stanfield to score from second and when [autotag]Cole Foster[/autotag] hit a two-run homer to extend the lead to 8-0.

“Throughout the night my at-bats got better and I happened to hit a hanging changeup and did what I could with it,” Foster said.

The Crimson Tide scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, three of which were forced in by walks or batters being hit by pitches.

The first pitch for the second game of the series is set for Saturday at 6:00 p.m. CST.

Auburn vs. Alabama: How to watch Auburn’s trip to Tuscaloosa

Auburn is looking to pick up its second SEC series win off the season.

Auburn baseball is headed to Tuscaloosa to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide this weekend, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

Auburn (19-13-1, 4-8 SEC) is looking to pick up its second SEC series win off the season after droppings last week’s series against Texas A&M. They also suffered a loss on Tuesday, losing their midweek game against Georgia Tech 12-8 in extra innings.

Alabama (24-10, 4-8) has yet to win an SEC series but Auburn isn’t overlooking their biggest rival.

“We’re looking for competitive spirit, competitive nature,” head coach [autotag]Butch Thompson[/autotag] said. “We need one or two guys to go out there and reset a good rhythm for our ballclub.”

Auburn unable to complete comeback against Georgia Tech

The Tigers came back from down 7-2 but were unable to hold onto their lead.

The Auburn Tigers erased a 7-2 deficit against Georgia Tech but were unable to hold on as Jackson Finley hit a walk-off grand slam to give the Yellow Jackers a 12-8 win Tuesday night at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Tigers pitchers combined to issue 12 walks in the game, including two in the ninth inning and one in the 10th inning. They are now 19-13-1 overall and 4-8 in SEC play

“We’re giving a consistent effort all the way around,” head coach [autotag]Butch Thompson[/autotag] said. “What I’m starting with I’ll finish with, I think our fortunes will change once we stick our head in the mitt and start locating some pitches.”

Auburn entered the seventh inning trailing 7-2 but started chipping away. They got one run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to make it 7-5 and get back in the game.

They immediately started threatening in the top of the ninth with [autotag]Bobby Pierce[/autotag] singling and [autotag]Ike Irish[/autotag] getting hit by a pitch. A wild pitch allowed Pierce to score and make it 7-6 with the tieing run on third with nobody out for [autotag]Bryson Ware[/autotag].

After working a full count he laced a home run over the left field wall to give Auburn the 8-7 lead. Their first lead since they scored a run in the top of the first.

“It’s pretty simple. Our guys always fight. We’re absolutely going to keep doing that. We’ve done it time and time again,” Thompson said. “We can’t do what we want to do until we put our face in the mitt. I don’t know any other way to slice it.”

[autotag]John Armstrong[/autotag] was going for the save in the ninth inning but walked the Yellow Jackets’ leadoff batter and gave up a single, forcing Auburn to turn to[autotag] Tanner Bauman[/autotag]. He walked his first batter to load the bases and Auburn quickly turned to [autotag]Will Cannon[/autotag].

He got a ground ball for the first out but it allowed Georgia Tech to tie the game. He then got back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning and send the game to extras.

Cannon gave up a double to start the bottom of the 10th inning and after an intentional walk, he loaded the bases with another walk. It looked like he might escape another bases-loaded jam after he induced consecutive outs at home but Finley ended the game on a grand slam to send Auburn home defeated.

Auburn vs. Georgia Tech: How to watch Auburn’s trip to Atlanta

Auburn is looking to put a rough week behind them.

Auburn baseball will head to Atlanta to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Tuesday, and if you’re wondering how you can watch the action live, you’ve come to the right place.

Auburn (19-12-1, 4-8 SEC) is looking to bounce back from a rough 1-3 week that saw them lose to UAB and drop a series against Texas A&M. They will be facing a tough mid-week contest when they take on Georgia Tech (19-13, 7-8 ACC)

“We have an understanding after another weekend of where we’re at,” head coach [autotag]Butch Thompson[/autotag] said. “There’s kind of a fight or flight type of transition for us. Instead of staying in the fight, we have to dominate some fights.”
