As the Chicago Bulls look to shake things up this summer, they will have a bunch of different options to choose from in terms of roster-building. If they want to remain competitive, adding more win-now talent would be the play. Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report floated Brandon Ingram as a potential “ambitious trade target” for Chicago this offseason.

“Brandon Ingram has one year left on his deal before 2025 free agency, which is actually more of a feature than a bug from the Bulls’ perspective,” Hughes wrote. “Chicago could build a trade by sending LaVine and his remaining three years to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for a one-year test run with Ingram.

“That’d allow a season to evaluate his fit with fellow three-point-attempt-eschewer DeMar DeRozan (who seems destined to return in free agency) and Coby White. If things click, and if Ingram regains his All-Star form, Chicago can retain him on a new deal. But if things don’t work out, the Bulls will have at least gotten out from under LaVine’s contract without sliding too far down the standings in 2024-25.”

Adding Ingram’s scoring punch as a way to replace DeMar DeRozan would be nice, especially considering Ingram is only 26 years old.

Zach LaVine linked to 76ers in second trade rumor report

The Philadelphia 76ers have once again been linked to Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine.

The Chicago Bulls are going to try to trade Zach LaVine this summer. Based on all the rumblings coming out of Chicago, that much is true. Now, it’s just a matter of what team wants him. And for the second time in the past week, the Philadelphia 76ers have been linked to LaVine as a potential destination.

“If not in free agency, the Sixers believe they can use their draft assets and available cap space to acquire a difference-maker via a trade,” wrote Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “That has led to Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler, Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine, and New Orleans Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram being among trade interests.”

Obviously, the 76ers are going to be taking a look at a ton of different options, and LaVine is likely far down their totem pole of choices, but he’s still on the list.

His shot creation would help give the Sixers a nice boost, taking some pressure off of Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

Bulls supposedly don’t want to help LeBron James, Lakers

The Chicago Bulls may not want to help LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers don’t make many trades together. The two teams have only made seven trades together in their franchise histories and only one from 1983. That deal was in 2016 when the Bulls sent Jose Calderon, a 2018 second-round pick, and a 2019 second-round pick to the Lakers in exchange for  Ater Majok.

The question is, why do these two teams not make trades with each other? There’s no definite reason, but Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report believes that it has to do with Chicago’s ownership not wanting to help LeBron James, as the GOAT debate between him and Michael Jordan has gotten stronger and stronger over the years.

He discussed this with Jovan Buha of The Athletic during a recent edition of the “Buha’s Block” podcast. (H/t Farbod Esnaashari of Bulls News)

“Go look at the transaction logs of Lakers-Chicago,” Pincus said. “They don’t make trades together. The last one was like during when the Lakers were rebuilding and were terrible. The Bulls dumped an older Spanish point guard on them…I think their owner doesn’t want LeBron infringing upon Michael’s legacy,…The intel is that they’re just not gonna help LeBron.”

Are the Bulls just being petty? And is that a good thing?

Zach LaVine floated among potential Knicks offseason targets

Could the New York Knicks take Zach LaVine off of the Chicago Bulls’ hands?

The Chicago Bulls want to move on from Zach LaVine. They are reportedly focused on finding a trade for him this summer, but what they get in return with depend on which teams actually want him. Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report recently floated LaVine as one of the New York Knicks’ potential offseason targets.

“Zach LaVine isn’t as good as Mitchell. He also comes with more questions about his health. But he’s probably a better fit for the Knicks for a few reasons,” Bailey wrote. “For one thing, his size (6’5″ with a 6’8” wingspan) makes him a more natural wing. And spending the last few seasons with DeMar DeRozan has helped LaVine acclimate to not being a No. 1 option.

“As a floor spacer and secondary creator playing off of Brunson and Randle, LaVine could dominate opponents’ second or third best perimeter defenders.”

LaVine’s shot creation could help take the load off Jalen Brunson, but his lack of defensive talent might hurt New York’s style of play.

Bulls-Jimmy Butler trade listed among biggest draft surprises of last decade

The Chicago Bulls trading Jimmy Butler in 2017 was called one of the biggest NBA Draft surprises in recent memory.

The Chicago Bulls haven’t made many trades recently. In fact, since their big-swing moves in 2021, they’ve been almost completely inactive on the trade market. But at one point, they decided to make a mega deal. At the 2017 NBA Draft, they traded Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves. David Kenyon of Bleacher Report listed the trade among the six biggest surprise deals of the last decade.

“Ordinarily, draft-day trades are basically just swapping rights to a prospect with future picks involved,” Kenyon wrote. “But in 2017, the Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves broke the mold in an eye-popping deal. Chicago sent Jimmy Butler and 16th pick (which became Justin Patton) to Minnesota for Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the No. 7 selection (Lauri Markkanen).

“The original outlook was very unkind. Moving on from Butler signaled the formal beginning of a rebuild, yet Chicago still parted with him and a valuable first-round selection for a player recovering from an ACL injury (LaVine), a guard who struggled in his first season (Dunn) and a rookie (Markkanen). The bright side for the Bulls is hindsight does not paint such an ugly picture, largely because Butler requested a trade from the Wolves just one year later.”

Trading Butler is still looked at as a rough move by some Bulls fans, but he ended up leaving Minnesota, anyway.

Bulls Trade Ideas: Should Chicago trade for Kyle Kuzma?

Could a Kyle Kuzma trade be an option for the Chicago Bulls?

The Chicago Bulls are going to be looking to shake up their roster this summer. Finding a trade for Zach LaVine is reportedly going to be a top priority for Chicago, and as they attempt to do that, they should be planning for the future. One name to look at could be Washington Wizards forward Kyle Kuzma.

Washington just wrapped up a terrible season, and though Kuzma just signed an extension this past summer, he could potentially be on the trade block. For the Bulls, Kuzma could be one of two pathways: A salary-matcher in a deal to ditch LaVine or a separate trade to help improve the roster.

Adding an offensive-minded player like Kuzma could do wonders for the Bulls, who have been very inconsistent on that end of the floor for the past few years.

Conclusion: Whether it be in a LaVine deal or otherwise, Kuzma would be a sneakily solid piece for the Bulls to put next to Coby White.

Report: 76ers could consider Zach LaVine if they strike out elsewhere

The Philadelphia 76ers could potentially be interested in a Zach LaVine trade with the Chicago Bulls, should other options fall through.

The Philadelphia 76ers are likely going big-game hunting this summer, but if they strike out on their top targets, they could end up calling up the Chicago Bulls. According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, if Philadelphia doesn’t end up getting any of their top targets, they could be open to a potential Zach LaVine trade.

“Striking out on a big-time wing would also leave the door open for Philadelphia to consider taking back a player such as Zach LaVine, sources said, in the event Chicago or another team is willing to attach draft capital to move off salary,” wrote Fischer.

The Bulls are reportedly going to be focused on trading LaVine this summer, as they want to move forward in a different direction without the All-Star wing.

Meanwhile, the 76ers will have a ton of cap space open this summer as they attempt to rebuild their roster around freshly-minted All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey and MVP big man Joel Embiid.

Bulls Trade Ideas: Should Chicago consider a Julius Randle trade?

Could the Chicago Bulls consider a trade for New York Knicks forward Julius Randle this offseason?

As the Chicago Bulls look to reshape the roster this summer, they need to consider all their options. They could look to win now, but at the same time, they should be hoping to add assets that will help them move forward into the future. One name that could be brought up in potential trade talks this offseason is Julius Randle of the New York Knicks.

Whether or not the Bulls want to get in on the Randle sweepstakes is yet to be seen, but considering they are looking to move on from Zach LaVine, the Knicks could be a potential landing spot.

Randle would give the Bulls some forward help, but his lack of consistent three-point shooting wouldn’t be a huge boost to their offense. That said, his rebounding and playmaking could help.

Meanwhile, LaVine would give the Knicks another perimeter shot creator to help take the load off Jalen Brunson, but his defensive concerns wouldn’t fit into Tom Thibodeau’s culture.

Conclusion: A LaVine-for-Randle deal doesn’t make too much sense for either side.

Will an NBA team take a flier on a Zach LaVine trade this offseason?

What team will end up taking a flier on a Zach LaVine trade with the Chicago Bulls this offseason?

All indications have pointed toward the Chicago Bulls looking to find a trade for Zach LaVine this summer, but the question is, who will want him? Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report listed “Does anyone take a flier in Zach LaVine?” as one of the top 10 trade storylines that will dominate the offseason.

“At present, though, his market value might be non-existent,” Buckley wrote. “His name has bounced around for the better part of a year now, and the Chicago Bulls still haven’t found any takers. They are prioritizing a LaVine trade this offseason, but it’s anyone’s guess over whether a deal gets done. The 2023-24 campaign did nothing to help his trade stock. When he wasn’t fighting a right foot injury that eventually sent him under the knife, he was posting some of his worst shooting rates in years (45.2 overall, 34.9 from three). Even worse, the Bulls were significantly more competitive without him, as they fared 4.8 points better per 100 possessions when he wasn’t on the floor.

“For someone who was already fighting the reputation of being a stat sheet-padder with a limited impact on winning, that number didn’t help. But there are two numbers doing even more damage to his value: Three and 138 million, as in the years and money left on his contract. That’s a tricky pact to match in a trade, let alone stomach over the next three seasons. And yet, you’re still talking about a two-time All-Star who’s on the right side of 30 with a career scoring average north of 20 points. Scoring-starved teams might not be totally out on him, particularly if his trade cost is slim to none.”

For all of the negatives that come with a potential LaVine addition, he’s still a great shot creator who can help improve an offense.

Zach LaVine listed among players who will ‘dominate trade rumors’

Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine is going to be everywhere in trade rumors this offseason.

This summer could get very interesting for the Chicago Bulls. They have a ton of decisions to make, and according to all of the recent reports, the team is focused on finding a trade for Zach LaVine. And according to Dan Favale of Bleacher Report, LaVine is one of the NBA stars who is going to “dominate trade rumors this offseason.”

“There should still be a reasonable amount of outside interest, particularly among teams desperate for floor-spacing and/or hoping LaVine can settle into a third option’s role,” Favale wrote. “But that interest may be contingent upon Chicago selling low to medium. Are the Bulls at that point? A more self-aware organization would be. Chicago’s view of itself, as we know, is a wild card.

“Perhaps the Bulls are coaxed into action by DeMar DeRozan leaving in free agency and taking any semblance of hope they can make a rollicking run at the eight-seed with him. Or maybe Chicago pays him and runs it back because sub-mediocrity is, apparently, one helluva drug. Whatever direction the Bulls choose, this offseason will be inundated with LaVine rumblings. That much is beyond debate. Chicago’s appetite for moving him or ability to suss out an offer good enough to save itself from itself? Now that’s a different story.”

Trading LaVine should be one of the Bulls’ top priorities this offseason.
