Aaron Kellerstrass of Pippen Ain’t Easy proposed a mock trade that would flip Alex Caruso and the 11th pick to the Houston Rockets for the third pick and the 44th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

“Should the Bulls really be trying to move up in what is mostly seen as a weak draft?’ Kellerstrass wrote. “Probably not, but if they are enamored with a particular prospect, they may be able to use Caruso’s expiring contract to get the 3rd pick from Houston, who is dying to make some win-now moves, not add more young players. If the Bulls get the sense that Caruso is not going to sign an extension, then they should trade him, as they risk losing him for nothing, which has been a common theme in Chicago.

“This would give them a chance to grab a table-setting point guard like Nikola Topic or possibly a two-way wing like Zaccharie Risacher. Losing Caruso wouldn’t help in the short term, but if there is a risk he is going to leave anyway, this would allow the Bulls to get a future piece without giving up too much to get it. They also get an additional pick in the second round to add a project.”

Adding a top-three pick in this year’s draft would help the Bulls reload their pool of young talent.

The Bulls would get a chance at a higher-tier draft prospect, though in this draft, you could argue that they have about as much chance of finding a star at 11 as they do with the 3rd pick. Chicago would have to really like someone at the top of the draft, otherwise Caruso and pick 11 are arguably more valuable.

“Chicago could also get involved in a deal that could potentially land them one of Houston’s excess young players (Tari Eason comes to mind) if Houston decides to keep their pick but still wants a veteran player.”

Adding the third pick would give the Bulls a chance to add one of the best players in this year’s draft.

At 6’9″ in socks, his scoring versatility and defensive playmaking flashes create a coveted archetype,” Wasserman wrote. “But at this stage, the idea of Buzelis remains more enticing than the results. The results and feelings on the 19-year-old wing continue to be mixed.

“Workouts will be extra important for Buzelis, who came to Ignite with expectations of being a solid shooter but finished at 26.1 percent from three.”

Buzelis had a relatively rough year with the Ignite this past season, but there is still a clear pathway forward for him to be a great NBA player.

The Chicago Bulls would do well to improve their future this summer. With Coby White leading the way, they should focus on building around him rather than competing now, and that starts at the 2024 NBA Draft. ESPN’s recent mock draft has them taking Ron Holland, and Matt Rooney of Bleacher Nation has the same pick.

“Holland would be a little bit of a project, but the traits are there and would be very tempting for the Bulls,” Rooney wrote. “He’s an explosive player who plays at 100 mph all the time. He’s a solid ball handler who can get to and score at the rim. He’s also menace defensively.

“He’s raw and would come with some growing pains, but with Zach LaVine likely on the way out, Holland could provide Chicago with some explosiveness and aggression that they would need.”

Taking an upside swing on Holland could be a smart move for Chicago.

“One of the great mysteries of the 2024 NBA offseason will be what the Chicago Bulls do with their roster,” No Ceilings wrote. “The Bulls were a strange team to watch all season long. They were never as bad as some people made them out to be, nor were they ever as good as others made them out to be. With star players missing big chunks of the season due to injury, the Bulls relied heavily on Demar DeRozan and Coby White to carry the team for most of the year. Now, how does Matas Buzelis fit with all of this? The idea of Buzelis is a ton of fun. The issue with Buzelis is that most of his game is theoretical.

“For everyone claiming he’s a good shooter, he was not a good shooter playing for the G League Ignite this season. He’s never had a ton of scoring punch off the dribble, isn’t a big-time athlete, and needs to add strength and awareness on the defensive side of the ball. Buzelis makes sense at this point in the draft because of the lotto ticket that his future presents. Buzelis is gigantic, and he has some passing feel to him. If the jumper ever comes around, he could be dangerous as a perimeter gravity guy. Once again, the issue is that he hasn’t shown much of that up to this point. The Bulls, with all of their question marks, could look to Buzelis as a long-term building block of the future whenever they decide to move on from their current crop of vets.”

Can the Bulls afford to take a chance on Buzelis? Or should they go with a safer option?

In a recent mock draft from Kyle Boone of CBS Sports, the Bulls selected Miami guard Kyshawn George.

“Strong candidate to be a late-riser in this process,” Boone wrote. “George shot 40.8% from 3-point range and rated in the 92nd percentile as a catch-and-shoot weapon as a freshman at Miami last season, per Synergy data. Huge frame and does a little of everything that will have NBA teams intrigued.”

George is a 6-foot-7 guard known in part for his three-point shooting at the collegiate level. For a Bulls team that doesn’t have many guys who can shoot well from behind the arc, he seems like a solid target.

Chicago doesn’t need more guards, but at his height, George could definitely play up a position and give them minutes at the wing.

“The Bulls have been treading water for several years and now are staring at an aging roster with few prospects for improvement internally,” wrote Jonathan Givony. “Rolling the dice on an 18-year-old prospect such as Holland, at one point ranked the No. 1 player in his high school class and a strong prospect at the top of this draft, could make sense at this point in the draft.

“Holland’s competitiveness, aggressiveness and scoring instincts give him a chance to emerge as a very productive NBA player as his perimeter shooting and decision-making continue to evolve.”

Bringing in a player as young as Holland would certainly give the Bulls a project to work on moving forward.

One guy who the Bulls should potentially keep their eyes on is Tidjane Salaun, a Frenchman currently playing for Cholet Basket in France. He’s had a solid season over there and his shooting ability could be one of the top reasons a team takes a chance on him.

The Chicago Bulls Central YouTube channel recently discussed why Salaun could be a steal for the Bulls to consider drafting.

The Bulls desperately need to add three-point shooting to the roster, so taking a chance on Salaun would make sense.

As noted by Wasserman, Buzelis’ shooting was a bit disappointing during his time with the G League Ignite, but his measurements alone make him an intriguing choice.

For the Bulls, taking a chance on a relatively high-upside guy like Buzelis makes a ton of sense.
