Why have the Chicago Bulls acted like a small-market team in recent years?

The Chicago Bulls went all-in three years ago. Well, they went all-in relative to how they were operating prior to their big-swing moves. They decided to stop rebuilding, bringing in Nikola Vucevic via trade at the 2021 deadline and DeMar DeRozan, Lonzo Ball, and Alex Caruso in free agency the following summer.

However, they haven’t done anything since then. The Bulls have brought back the same core over and over again in hopes of finding better results. They have not. They have suffered through two straight losing seasons, yet they continue to resist change. No matter how badly the fanbase yearns for it.

The Chicago Bulls Central YouTube channel recently discussed why the Bulls continue to act like a small-market team when they are in one of the biggest markets in sports.

Chicago is a huge city. And players could want to play there. But not with the way the organization has run things recently.

What will it take for the Chicago Bulls front office to make changes?

How much does the Chicago Bulls front office have to see before they decide to blow up this core?

For the past three years, the Chicago Bulls have stood at every trade deadline. Their roster has remained almost entirely the same ever since they made a bunch of huge shake-ups in 2021. The Bulls committed to a core of Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic, but since forming that group, the team has won just a single playoff game.

So far this season, despite the emergence of Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu as stars in the making, it’s been more of the same in Chicago. LaVine is still there, DeRozan is still there, and Vucevic is still there. And the team is still in the middle of the pack in the East.

The Chicago Bulls Central YouTube channel recently discussed how much more it will take for the front office to realize it’s time to break up this core.

Rumors have indicated that the Bulls plan to trade LaVine this summer, so that’s a start, but is it enough?

Chicago Bulls front office deserves credit for free agency steals

Despite all the criticism they get, the Chicago Bulls front office made some great moves this past offseason.

The Chicago Bulls have been a beacon of mediocrity for the past few seasons. Outside of a brief period of success when Lonzo Ball was healthy, they’ve been a middle-of-the-pack team, having won just one playoff game with Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic leading the way. Needless to say, the fanbase has been frustrated.

However, while Chicagoans have a right to be upset with the front office for their lack of movement, as the team hasn’t made a trade at the deadline in three years, they have done some good things, too. This summer, they brought back two key pieces in free agency, both of whom have been amazing this season.

The Bulls Central YouTube channel recently discussed why the Bulls front office deserves credit for re-signing Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu for great contracts.

White re-signed in Chicago on a three-year, $36 million contract, while Dosunmu inked a three-year, $21 million deal.
