Buffalo Sabres at Tampa Bay Lightning odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tampa Bay versus Buffalo Monday night with odds, bets, and picks.

The Buffalo Sabres (11-9-3) travel across Florida to face the Tampa Bay Lightning (11-7-2) at Amalie Arena Monday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Sabres-Lightning odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Buffalo Sabres at Tampa Bay Lightning: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hutton vs. Andrei Vasilevskiy

Hutton has a 6-4-2 record for Buffalo with a 2.73 goals against average and .909 save percentage. Hutton has not played since November 17th where he gave up four goals on 27 shots versus the Chicago Blackhawks.

Vasilevskiy is the likely starter in net for Tampa Bay tonight at home against Buffalo. He has an 8-6 record with a 2.88 goals-against average and .908 save percentage. The Russian goalie has split his last two starts, stopping 67 of 71 shots.

Prediction

Lightning 5, Sabres 2

Moneyline (ML)

The LIGHTNING (-223) line has backed off a bit but is still a bit high to take Monday night. Buffalo is the reason why bettors are trying to capitalize on value. The Sabres are not the rested team and Tampa Bay has already won the two previous matchups (one at home where they tallied five goals).

A $10 bet with Tampa Bay results in a $4.48 profit with an outright win for the Lightning.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Unlike the moneyline, the real value (and a little risk) is in the ATS. Tampa Bay is a +125 here to win by two or more goals. The last Lightning home game against the Sabres was a two-goal margin of victory for Tampa Bay. Three of the previous five meetings have also gone this way.

A $10 bet with a Tampa Bay cover results in a $12.50 return.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (+120) is a good play here with Tampa Bay the top-scoring team in the league once again (3.7 goals per contest) and Buffalo can put some goals up as well (five last night in Florida). Tampa might score five by themselves tonight.

Placing a $10 bet on the over will give a bettor a $12.00 profit with a total of seven or more goals scored.

Buffalo Sabres at Florida Panthers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Sunday’s Buffalo Sabres at Florida Panthers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Florida Panthers (12-6-5) host the Buffalo Sabres (10-9-3) Sunday at BB&T Center in Sunrise. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET. We analyze the Sabres-Panthers sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Sabres at Panthers: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hutton vs. Sam Montembeault

Hutton is on a six-game losing streak (0-4-2) and has allowed at least four goals in each of his last three starts. Nonetheless, he still owns a .909 save percentage and 2.73 goals against average with two shutouts.

Montembeault has picked up two straight wins including a 15-save relief effort in favor of Sergei Bobrovsky. The 23-year-old has a .903 save percentage and 2.96 GAA through six games played and sports a 3-1-1 record.

Prediction

Sabres 3, Panthers 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Panthers are coming off of a 4-2 loss at Carolina on Saturday. The defeat snapped a three-game winning streak. The Sabres have been off since taking a 3-2 loss at the Boston Bruins on Thursday. They’ve lost three straight and nine of their last 10 games dating back to Oct. 28.

Florida is 6-2-2 at home while Buffalo enters Sunday with a 4-6-1 road record. The SABRES +125 is the play as the club comes in rested. Buffalo will be able to take advantage of a tired Panthers squad. The two sides last met Oct. 11, with the Sabres taking a 3-2 shootout victory at home.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

BUFFALO (+1.5, -209) is also a fine play when being spotted a goal. The Sabres are 12-10 ATS overall and 6-5 on the road. The Panthers are 12-11 overall but just 4-6 at home.

Five of the Sabres’ last nine losses were decided by just a single goal with two going to extra time. Seven of the Panthers’ last nine games were decided by a goal.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Sabres to win or lose by no more than one goal returns a profit of $4.78. The same bet for a straight-up victory fetches a $12.50 profit.

Over/Under (O/U)

Side with the UNDER 6.5 (-139) with the Panthers coming in tired. The Sabres have gone 3-7 against the projected totals across their last 10 games while the Panthers went 7-3.

Sabres-Bruins odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Thursday’s Buffalo Sabres at Boston Bruins betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

The Boston Bruins (13-3-5) entertain the slumping Buffalo Sabres (10-8-3) at TD Garden Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Sabres-Bruins odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Sabres at Bruins: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hutton vs. Tuukka Rask

Hutton is 6-4-2 with a 2.73 goals against average and .909 save percentage. He will try to rebound from three straight poor performance where he yielded 14 goals on just 96 shots.

Rask is confirmed to get the start. He has a 9-2-2 record for Boston with a 2.06 GAA and .930 SV%. Rask enjoyed an efficient performance against the New Jersey Devils as he stopped 25 of 26 shots.

Prediction

Bruins 4, Sabres 2

Moneyline (ML)

The BRUINS (-239) are enduring with the Torey Krug injury but the real concern is still Patrice Bergeron. Bergeron has a core issue keeping his playing status uncertain. It did not impact Boston at all against New Jersey Tuesday as it routed the Devils 5-1 in Newark.

The Bruins are our play on the moneyline, as they have the third-best record in the league.

A $10 bet with Boston results in a $4.18 profit with a Bruins’ win in regulation, overtime or a shootout.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Boston is only 12-9 against the spread but has won three of its last four meetings with Buffalo. The risk is winning by two or more goals and Boston has failed to accomplish that so tentatively we will AVOID this pick.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-115) is a nice play. Watch for the status of Bergeron again. If pushed, the feeling is the Over hits and Boston even covers the spread.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a decent $8.70 profit with a total of six or more goals scored.

Wild-Sabres odds: Buffalo holds edge over Minnesota

Previewing Tuesday’s Minnesota Wild at Buffalo Sabres sports betting odds, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

The Buffalo Sabres (10-6-2) entertain the Minnesota Wild (5-8-4) at KeyBank Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET. We analyze the Wild-Sabres odds and lines while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Wild at Sabres: Projected starting goalies

Alex Stalock vs. Carter Hutton

Stalock has a .911 save percentage and a 2.37 goals against average to support a 3-3-0 record through seven starts and two relief appearances.

Hutton is 6-4-2 with a 2.73 GAA and .909 save percentage. The Buffalo starter has allowed 14 goals on his last 96 shots spanning three games (all losses).

Prediction

Sabres 5, Wild 3

Moneyline (ML)

The SABRES (-115) are dealing with regression as they struggle following a hot start. Their penalty kill is the worst in the league and Minnesota will be able to take advantage.

It will be a wild and crazy contest but Buffalo should be able to pull this game out late.

A $10 bet with Buffalo results in a $8.70 profit with a Sabres’ win.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Sabres are 11-9 against the spread while Minnesota is just 8-11. That is enough to pick BUFFALO (-1.5, +230) as a slight lean.

Placing a $10 wager here could result in a $23 profit if Buffalo wins by two or more goals.

(Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-134) is a safe play Tuesday night. That number makes for a more palatable bet as the two teams could easily combine for seven or eight goals.

Placing a $10 bet here will give a bettor a solid $7.46 profit with a total of six or more goals scored.

Sabres-Blackhawks odds: Surging ‘Hawks favored at home

Previewing Sunday’s Buffalo Sabres at Chicago Blackhawks sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis and picks.

The Buffalo Sabres (10-6-3) make a trip to the United Center to take on the surging Chicago Blackhawks (8-7-4) in a Sunday evening (7 p.m. ET) inter-conference battle. We analyze the Sabres-Blackhawks odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips around this matchup.

Sabres at Blackhawks: Projected starting goalies

Carter Hutton vs. Corey Crawford

Hutton’s story is that of the 2019-20 Sabres and vice-versa: started out hot and has scuffled since. The 34-year-old enters this start after stopping just 59 of 69 shots (.855 SV) over his last two games. Hutton logged a similar line (.881 save percentage) in 105 minutes against Chicago last season.

Crawford has become the 60-40 understudy to newcomer Robin Lehner. His best multi-game stretch, however, is the one he’s been on since Nov. 7. Since that date, the veteran netminder has registered a fine .937 mark in three games.

Prediction

Chicago 4, Buffalo 3

Moneyline (ML)

Both teams are closing out home-road back-to-backs – Buffalo snapped a six-game losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Ottawa Senators Saturday. The Blackhawks clobbered the Predators 7-2 to earn their third straight high-scoring victory. Chicago has scored 17 goals over its last three contests. Buffalo native Patrick Kane has driven the Chicago surge. The right winger has tallied six goals and six assists over the team’s last five games.

The ‘Hawks have won three in a row at the United Center after struggling in early-season home games. They are 3-0 in the back half of playing two games in as many days. Chicago continues to allow too many shots on goal, but of late the Blackhawks have done better in preventing quality looks from the slot. CHICAGO -139 is a solid play, one with some value even when regressing recent-game performances on both sides.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Pass on the puck line (-1.5, +170). Four of Buffalo’s last five losses have been by one goal.

Over/under (O/U)

A high-priced Over (5.5, -150) makes for a PASS here. The number calls for an Over play but adding in some regression and a longer-view look of these two teams, a price in the -135 to -141 range would add value to the play.

The combined Under for the Sabres and ‘Hawks is 18-19-1.

Hurricanes-Sabres odds: Carolina favored in Buffalo

Previewing Thursday’s Carolina Hurricanes at Buffalo Sabres sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis and picks

The Carolina Hurricanes (10-7-1) and Buffalo Sabres (9-6-2) square off in Western New York on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. Both teams are 4-5-1 across the past 10 outings.

Hurricanes at Sabres: Projected starting goalies

Petr Mrazek vs. Carter Hutton

Mrazek enters play with an 8-3-1 record, 2.51 goals-against average and .907 save percentage. He received a ton of support last time out in a victory against the Ottawa Senators, winning 8-2. While he has a strong overall record, keep in mind that he is 7-1-0 with a 2.11 GAA and .918 save percentage at home, but just a 1-2-1 record, 3.44 GAA and .883 save percentage on the road.

Like Mrazek, Hutton owns an impressive overall record and tremendously opposite splits. He is 6-3-1 with a 2.39 GAA and .921 save percentage overall. On the road he is just 2-2-0 with a 3.06 GAA and .914 save percentage, but he is a solid 4-1-1 with a 1.96 GAA and .927 save percentage in his six assignments at home.

Hurricanes at Sabres: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 8:50 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Sabres 4, Hurricanes 2

Moneyline (ML)

The SABRES (+115) are a sharp play at home catching plus-money. The Hurricanes (-139) have been less than stellar on the road, and Mrazek has had his struggles, as mentioned above. Hutton has been red-hot at home, but the Sabres have struggled overall. They’re 0-4-1 in the past five outings, including a pair of losses in Sweden against the Tampa Bay Lightning. They haven’t played since Nov. 9, so will be well rested after their overseas trip to Stockholm. Look for them to roar back to life at home.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Buffalo returns a profit of $11.50 – every $1 wagered profits $1.15 with a Sabres win.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Sabres (+1.5, -239) are underdogs, so the puck line is not worth a look. You don’t need the insurance, as I expect them to win outright. Consider the alternate line (including overtime and shootouts), laying -1.5 to win +300, or three times your bet, with a two-goal win by the home side.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-154) is worth a small-unit play, but beware of the high juice on this wager. Personally, while I feel the game should just inch across the finish line for the over, I wouldn’t risk it at this price.
