Bucs make practice squad elevations ahead of Week 15 matchup

The Bucs made some elevations from the practice squad ahead of their upcoming matchup against the Packers on Sunday.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are making some more practice squad elevations ahead of their Week 15 game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

The team announced it was set to elevate safety Richard LeCounte and corner Derek Pitts from the practice. This is to account for depth with injuries to Carlton Davis and Ryan Neal, but it’s also telling in who the team did not elevate — long snapper Evan Deckers, which seems to imply that long snapper Zach Triner will play on Sunday.

Derrek Pitts had initially been signed to Tampa Bay’s 53-man roster at the beginning of the year before he was released and then brought back to the practice squad. LeCounte was elevated due to safety Ryan Neal being downgraded to out, and with Deckers remaining on the practice squad, it seems as if Triner will be good to go on Sunday.

Bucs sign long-snapper Evan Deckers back to practice squad

The move comes as starting long-snapper Zach Triner is dealing with an elbow injury.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been hit with a number of injuries over the course of the season, and one to their special teams unit has seen them shoring up depth at a crucial spot for the third side of the ball.

FOX Sports’ Greg Auman reported Tuesday that the team is bringing back long-snapper Evan Deckers as starting long-snapper Zach Triner is dealing with an elbow injury. Deckers returns to the team after participating in their training camp during the first part of the offseason.

Deckers will be available to elevate in the event that Triner is unable to go against Green Bay on Sunday. Triner has been Tampa Bay’s longsnapper for five years now, coming to the team in 2019 after offseason stints with the New Jets and the Green Bay Packers. Deckers spent time with UMass before transferring out to Duke for the remainder of his college career.

Tampa Bay waives DL Pat O’Connor

The move is a corresponding one to make way for Bucs QB John Wolford on the active roster.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are making room for their QB3.

Tampa Bay signed quarterback John Wolford to the active roster on Monday to avoid him being poached by the Los Angeles Rams, and that move had to come with a corresponding roster move. The Bucs made that move today, waiving veteran defensive tackle [autotag]Pat O’Connor[/autotag]. Should O’Connor go unclaimed on waivers, he can return to the Bucs practice squad after being signed back.

O’Connor was used frequently as a special teams player in prior years with the team, but he didn’t make the initial 53-man roster. He was elevated to the 53-man roster from the practice squad earlier in the year but has been a healthy scratch in Tampa Bay’s last three games.
