Nate Burleson likes Bruce Arians’ chances to win his first Super Bowl

NFL analyst Nate Burleson feels the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in a great position to capture the first Super Bowl win for Bruce Arians.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have talent up and down the roster on both sides of the ball, but paper champions don’t win Lombardi Trophies. It’ll be up to head coach Bruce Arians to turn this team into a cohesive unit, and with the coronavirus pandemic making this offseason an unconventional one, the team will rely even more so on Arians to guide them.

Fortunately, the two-time NFL Coach of the Year seems up to the challenge of turning around the Bucs in 2020. Arians helped return the Arizona Cardinals to prominence during his five-year tenure from 2013-2017, even helping the Cards reach the NFC Championship Game following the 2015 regular season.

With Tom Brady now his quarterback, Arians seems poised to make another run at a championship, and NFL analyst Nate Burleson named Arians as a head coach he feels has the best chance of winning his first Super Bowl in 2020.

Per Burleson:

“Arians has to be thrilled with the offseason his Tampa Bay Buccaneers have experienced, especially after winning the Tom Brady sweepstakes in March. The Bucs now boast the sport’s ultimate winner at quarterback (Brady has SIX Lombardis) — and given the fact that Brady has the Michael Jordan effect, every player on that roster will play better. Brady has already rallied some of his new teammates for workouts.”

Burleson also liked the chances of Bills head coach Sean McDermott, but it’s hard to ignore what Brady brings to the table. It’ll be interesting to see how this Arians-Brady offense will look, but you can be sure it’ll be capable of dropping a lot of points on opposing defenses.

Here’s a Madden first look at what Tom Brady looks like as a Buccaneer

Take a look at Tom Brady as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer through the Madden ’20 lens.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady (still does not sound real) took to social media Friday after making his signing official. The six-time Super Bowl champion left the New England Patriots last week after 20 years, and will now join a Bucs team that already ranked as one of the NFL’s best offenses.

While Brady struggled with the Patriots last year to put up points on offense, he’ll have a bevy of assets at his disposal in Tampa Bay, including Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and O.J. Howard. Watching Brady throwing to Bucs receivers next season will feel like something out of a Madden video game.

And, to give you an idea of what that might look like, head on over to NFL.com to see this Madden ’20 first look.

This stat about the Bucs is both encouraging and frustrating

The Tampa Bay Bucs have one of the league’s top scoring offenses, but somehow are the only team in the top 7 not going to the playoffs.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will end their season Sunday at home in their divisional showdown with the Atlanta Falcons.

Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston is just 92 yards away from the 5,000-yard passing mark, which would make him the eighth quarterback in league history to surpass that number. But, Winston’s big numbers haven’t just been in the yardage category. He also leads the league with 28 interceptions, and could become the first player ever to throw for 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in a season in addition to 5,000 yards. (Talk about a crazy season for fantasy football owners.)

Despite Winston’s turnovers, he’s played solid enough football over the past month to convince the Bucs to bring him back in 2020 for at least one more year. While the interceptions are hard to ignore, Bucs management can look at the fact that the offense has shown vast improvement in its first-year under Bruce Arians and offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich.

Last season, the Bucs had the third best offense in the league, averaging 415.5 yards per game, but ranked just 12th in scoring (24.8 ppg). This season, Tampa Bay once again ranks third in offense, but they also rank third in scoring, putting up an average of 29.1 points per game.

But, perhaps the most frustrating thing of all is the fact that Tampa Bay’s offense is so potent, yet they were unable to get to the playoffs. Take a look at the chart below of the top scoring offenses in the league. Count how many teams are going to the postseason and how many aren’t.

The Buccaneers were held to just 20 points in their Week 16 loss to the Houston Texans, but keep in mind they were without their top two receivers and Winston was battling a thumb injury. It was just the fourth time all season Tampa Bay has been held to 20 points or less.

If Winston can work out his interception issues in the offseason, Tampa Bay could finally make it to the postseason next year. The defense has been coming on strong in the second half, and if they can retain pending free agent Shaq Barrett, it will only continue to grow.
