Dustin Stoltzfus reveals fractured face, nerve damage after Brunno Ferreira’s spinning elbow KO at UFC Louisville

Dustin Stoltzfus suffered some serious damage after UFC on ESPN 57.

[autotag]Dustin Stoltzfus[/autotag] suffered some serious damage after UFC on ESPN 57.

Stoltzfus’ (15-6 MMA, 2-5 UFC) face was smashed courtesy of a spinning back elbow by [autotag]Brunno Ferreira[/autotag] (12-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) in their middleweight bout this past Saturday at KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky.

It was a wild first round where Stoltzfus was more than game to engage in a brawl with Ferreira. He had his moments, but with less than 10 seconds remaining in Round 1, Stoltzfus was sent crashing to the canvas by Ferreira, causing severe damage to his face.

Stoltzfus opened up on the loss in an Instagram post Sunday.

“Not too much to say here. I strayed from the game plan at the end of the round.

I feel like a fraud. I am better than this and I owe it to the amazing people who support me to do better. That being said, there are only so many spinning elbows to the face even my big ol’ head can take.

That being said: I’ve got a lot of healing to do. My face is fractured and I have some significant nerve damage. I don’t know when I’ll be back to training, let alone fighting.

Thankfully, the great people at the @ufc have always taken good care of me. I went out there to put on a show, now it’s time to put me back together and see what’s next.

Thank you all for the love, but I’ll probably be off socials for a while ✌️.”

With the loss, Stoltzfus has split his past four appearances. Ferreira’s past six wins have come by first-round knockout.

Brunno Ferreira calls for Bo Nickal after spinning-elbow KO at UFC on ESPN 57

Brunno Ferreirs wants to fight Bo Nickal following his spinning-elbow knockout win at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 57.

[autotag]Brunno Ferreira[/autotag] had a big callout after his big knockout.

The Brazilian middleweight called for a fight against famed prospect [autotag]Bo Nickal[/autotag] following his impressive knockout win at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 57 at KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky. Ferreira (12-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) put the lights out on Dustin Stoltzfus (15-6 MMA, 2-5 UFC) with a spinning back elbow in the first round of their main card bout.

With the attention of the crowd on him, Ferreira shot his shot at Nickal in his post-fight interview.

“I’ve shown my power in the division, but I come from judo,” Ferreira told commentator Paul Felder. “I’ve said this many times: I’m an excellent judoka, I’m a black belt, and a former athlete in Brazil’s national team. I want to issue the UFC a challenge: What do you guys think about judo vs. wrestling? Come on, Bo Nickal.”

Speaking backstage with the UFC, Ferreira said he expected the knockout win. His team saw an opening in preparation for Saturday.

“You can say that this knockout was really worked for – we really planned it,” Ferreira said. “We saw that he would come in, and he would throw his body a lot, so we knew that this and other strikes would work. But once the first one landed, I knew I could try it again and that it would land.”

Ferreira got a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for his finish and leaves UFC on ESPN 57 with a smile on his face.

“I feel like it’s mission accomplished – the job has been done,” Ferreira said. “I went through injuries and everything the fighters go through to get here, so right now the feeling is mission accomplished.”

UFC on ESPN 57 video: Brunno Ferreira smashes Dustin Stoltzfus with vicious spinning back elbow

Brunno Ferreira emerged from a wild first-round brawl at UFC on ESPN 57 after connecting with a pair of flush spinning back elbows.

With a nickname like “The Hulk,” [autotag]Brunno Ferreira[/autotag] might not be the one to get into a wild brawl against inside the cage.

At UFC on ESPN 57 that’s exactly what Dustin Stoltzfus attempted to do, but ended up on the wrong end of a Ferreira (12-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) “Hulk smash” in the opening round of their bout at KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky. Stoltzfus (15-6 MMA, 2-5 UFC) found himself on the wrong end of a spinning back elbow, resulting in a TKO stoppage at 4:51 of Round 1.

The fight quickly escalated from a few trading shots to a full-on wild brawl. Both middleweights landed heavy shots in the exchanges, but it would be Ferreira who connected with a pair of spinning back elbows to get the stoppage, the eighth such finish in UFC history.

Check out video of the finish below (via X):

Ferreira makes it two wins in a row, after stopping Phil Hawes in the first round of their January bout. All three of his victories have come in fourth minute of Round 1.

On the other end, Stoltzfus continues his trend of trading wins and losses over his past four fights as he struggles to gain momentum and string together a pair of wins.

Brunno Ferreira vs. Dustin Stoltzfus prediction, pick, start time, odds for UFC on ESPN 57

Brunno Ferreira and Dustin Stoltzfus clash in a battle of explosive middleweights. Who walks away as winner of two straight?

[autotag]Brunno Ferreira[/autotag] and [autotag]Dustin Stoltzfus[/autotag] meet Saturday on the main card of UFC on ESPN 57 from KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Brunno Ferreira vs. Dustin Stoltzfus UFC on ESPN 57 preview

Ferreira (11-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) will look to keep the momentum going after successfully rebounding from the first loss of his pro career last July to Nursulton Ruziboev. In January, Ferreira stopped Phil Hawes in the closing seconds of Round 1 to get back on track. … Stoltzfus (15-5 MMA, 2-4 UFC) is also coming off a victory in his last outing, having defeated Punahele Soriano in December. He will be looking for his first back-to-back string of wins in his UFC tenure.

Brunno Ferreira vs. Dustin Stoltzfus UFC on ESPN 57 expert pick, prediction

Fulfilling the UFC matchers’ fetish for force-feeding us as many middleweight matchups possible on a main card is a fight between Ferreira and Stoltzfus.

Although I initially was a bit bullish on the Ferreira side, I believe that Stoltzfus is livelier than the betting lines suggest.

Not only is Ferreira largely unproven past the first frame, but Stoltzfus – who spent part of this training camp at Xtreme Couture MMA – demonstrated some solid improvements in his last outing, making me suspect he’s live to upset some parlays.

If it were any other week, I’d probably lean into my usual bias of fading first-round finishers like Ferreira. This week, however, I’ll be siding with the explosive knockout artist to finish Stoltzfus with a knee in Round 2.

Brunno Ferreira vs. Dustin Stoltzfus UFC on ESPN 57 odds

The oddsmakers and the public are favoring the Brazilian fighter, listing Ferreira at -280, with Stoltzfus as an underdog at +210, via FanDuel.

Brunno Ferreira vs. Dustin Stoltzfus UFC on ESPN 57 start time, how to watch

Ferreira and Stoltzfus are expected to make their walks to the octagon at approximately 9:05 p.m. ET. The fight broadcasts live on ESPN and streams on ESPN+.

Brunno Ferreira calls for ‘Shara Bullet’ in Brazil after UFC Fight Night 234 knockout

Brunno Ferreira knocked out Phil Hawes brutally at UFC Fight Night 234 and now he wants to do the same to Magomed Sharabutdin.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Brunno Ferreira[/autotag] began his 2024 competition calendar exactly how he wanted.

Saturday at UFC Fight Night 234, Ferreira (11-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) bashed Phil Hawes’ face with brutal knockout blows en route to a first-round TKO victory. The relief of the victory for him can not be understated.

“I put a weight on myself,” Ferreira told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a post-fight news conference. “This was a weight that was lifted off my back. To actually start the year like this and having the opportunity to start the year like this with a fight like this, it’s very happy. I’m very fortunate. … This is the way I wanted to start my year. This is the way the year is supposed to start.”

Immediately after the victory, Ferreira turned his attention toward the future – and another exciting up-and-comer in the UFC middleweight division.

“Everything has a why,” Ferreira said. “Everything has a reason. This fight was supposed to happen before and he’s already run away from me once at the end of the year. He didn’t fight me. At the end of the day, I have a brother. I have a training partner. I have a friend in Bruno Silva, “Blindado.” He welcomed him into his home. So we’d like to welcome him into our home. So ‘Shara Bullet’, we want to face him in Brazil.”

[lawrence-related id=2709034,2709056]

Magomed Sharabutdin, also known to fight fans as “Shara Bullet”, does not currently have a known fight on the books, though he has been rumored to return March 2 at UFC Saudi Arabia.

Regardless of whether or not the next step in 2024 is Sharabutdin, Ferreira hopes to remain as active as possible with an average fight count of one per quarter.

“My goal, if everything goes well, is actually to finish the year with four wins, to show people that I’m not just here. I’m here to show something. I’m here to grow. I’m here to be a champion. My goal is to have four wins by the end of the year. We started the year pretty well.”
