Bruce Irvin on his third run with the Seahawks: ‘This is home’

After the game, Irvin was asked why he chose to come back to Seattle.

Bruce Irvin re-signed with the Seahawks a couple weeks ago and ever since then their defense has done a total 180. We probably can’t credit Irvin for too much of that turnaround, especially since he’s only played 25 snaps since his return. That said, it doesn’t feel like a coincidence that this group is coming together now.

After the game, Irvin was asked why he chose to come back to Seattle and he replied this is home.

Seahawks: Updated 53-man roster by jersey number going into Week 7

Here’s the team’s full updated 53-man roster jersey number.

The Seahawks have a new but familiar face on the team this week. Yesterday, Bruce Irvin was elevated from the practice squad and he should be active for today’s game against the Chargers. This is Irvin’s third stint with the team and he’ll be wearing his old No. 51.

Here’s the team’s full updated 53-man roster jersey number.

Pete Carroll says Seahawks veteran linebacker Bruce Irvin is ready to go

Now back on the practice squad for a third stint in Seattle, Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin is ready to go.

The Seattle Seahawks added a little insurance to their defensive depth last week when they signed familiar face, linebacker Bruce Irvin to the practice squad.

Coach Pete Carroll was asked about Irvin’s status during his press conference on Wednesday.

“He’s ready, he’s ready to go,” Carroll said. “He’s fired up about it. He thought he could be able to casually handle this. He was jacked. He wanted to play in the game when we got to game time.”

Irvin was originally selected by the Seahawks in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft out of West Virginia. He spent four years in Seattle before signing with the Raiders as a free agent. After three years in Oakland, he bounced around the league, including a stop in Seattle for the 2020 season.

Now back for a third stint, Irvin is hoping to earn himself a spot on the roster.

“We’ll just see what happens,” Carroll continued. “He’s going to put the pads on today for the first time and bang around a little bit and just try to make the transition and see if he will be available.”

Seahawks place Rashaad Penny on IR, elevate one from practice squad

That opened up a spot on the 53-man roster, and now we know who will be filling it, at least for this week.

On Friday the Seahawks placed running back Rashaad Penny on the injured reserve list. He underwent surgery on his broken fibula and will miss the rest of the 2022 season.

That opened up a spot on the 53-man roster, and now we know who will be filling it – at least for this week.

The team just announced that linebacker Christian Jones has been elevated from the practice squad for tomorrow’s game against the Cardinals.

Jones has been in the NFL since the 2014 season, playing a total of 127 games, mostly with the Bears and the Lions. He’s appeared in two games for the Seahawks this year, seeing the field for 25 snaps – all on special teams.

This is probably not the name most fans were hoping to see get elevated. Bruce Irvin was signed to the team’s practice squad a few days ago, and even though coach Pete Carroll said he had a great week of practice it appears they don’t feel he’s ready to contribute just yet. There’s a good chance we will see No. 51 active next week against the Chargers.

Bruce Irvin identifies what’s wrong with the Seahawks defense

The first step towards improvement is finding out what’s wrong.

Bruce Irvin has been a part of some great defenses in Seattle, as well as some not so great ones in other places during his career. Now that Irvin is back with the Seahawks, he’ll try to help improve a unit that ranks last in several important stats.

The first step towards improvement is finding out what’s wrong. Speaking with reporters yesterday Irvin honed in on the problems, namely communication and inexperience. Here’s what he said, per Bob Condotta at the Seattle Times.

“Honestly, I just think that on defense it’s a communication thing. I was with Sean (Desai) last year in Chicago, so I know the system already. It’s big on communicating. You have to change the strength, so you have to communicate that because the plays go from one side to the other side with certain motions and stuff. I think once we are out there chattering and guys are beleiving in one another, I think it will make a difference. From what I’ve seen being at home, I see a young defense with not a lot of experience playing with onbe another, but the talent is there.”

Irvin’s experience and leadership will be welcome additions to this defense. However, he’ll also have to make some plays. Aside from free agent pickup Uchenna Nwosu, the outside linebacker rotation has been a total disappointment this year so far.
