Browns Podcast: Recapping week one of Cleveland Browns training camp

The first week of camp is in the books for the Browns

The 2024 season is close as the Cleveland Browns have wrapped up their first week of training camp. There have been several different headlines but one of the biggest is how sharp quarterback Deshaun Watson has looked. On top of that he hasn’t missed a practice working his way back from shoulder surgery.

David Njoku spoke with the media this week and expressed how excited he is for the team’s planned usage of him this year. He was the king of yards after catch at the position and the team clearly understands he needs to continue to get targets in 2024.

The preseason will be here in just over a week, and players like Michael Hall Jr. and Jamari Thrash could really turn some heads during those games. Most of the roster is set, but there are a handful of spots up for grabs, and the battle for those spots will be fun to watch.

Browns Podcast: Training camp preview and 53-man roster predictions

Who will snag the last roster spots after training camp?

The 2024 NFL season is nearly here as teams report for their respective training camps and begin preparing for September. The Cleveland Browns agreed on a restructured deal with wide receiver Amari Cooper to ensure he will not miss any more time as the team installs a new offense.

But what does his contract structure mean without added years? In the end, it gives young guys a chance to step up while giving the team flexibility to potentially pursue a big fish next off-season or bring Cooper back.

The beautiful thing about the Browns roster going into camp is that there are really no major roster battles. This year’s battles are for depth, and at some positions, it’s trying to find the third stringers with a majority of the top roster spots already claimed.

But there always seems to be a surprise player or two that make the Browns roster. You can hear more thoughts on Cooper’s contract and a few 53-man roster predictions by clicking here for the latest episode.

Browns Podcast: Cleveland’s interior O-line is one of the NFL’s best

Interior offensive line is a major strength of the Browns

Training camp is finally here, as the Cleveland Browns will report and head for The Greenbrier this week. One position that they don’t have to worry about at all is the interior offensive line. The trio of Ethan Pocic, Joel Bitonio, and Wyatt Teller is as good as it gets in the NFL.

However, it was a bit of a down year for Bitonio, who had a nagging back injury that seemed to limit him for much of the year. But it was probably the best year we have seen from Wyatt Teller since 2020, who was fantastic and back to mauling people in the run game.

The run game wasn’t great at times last year, and the team will need to lean on these big, strong interior guys if they want to fix it in 2024. You can hear more about this great group of guards and centers in the latest episode by clicking here.

Browns Podcast: Previewing Cleveland’s group at the safety position

Cleveland’s safety group has the talent to get the job done

The Cleveland Browns had one of the league’s best defenses in 2023, and their secondary played a big part in that. Last year was a disappointing year for safety Juan Thornhill, who injured his calf before the first game and had it linger all season. Thornhill will be better in 2024, and having him as a safety blanket over the top will help this defense be great again.

Grant Delpit is ready to break out, and having a chess piece like that can be moved around is invaluable for Jim Schwartz. And then you have the veteran Rodney Mcleod Jr., who has seen a lot of football and can play all over the defensive backfield like Delpit.

This group of safeties isn’t quite as good as the corners but still has plenty of talent. You can hear more about the safety room, Chubb’s squatting video, and more by clicking here to check out the latest podcast.

Browns Podcast: 2024 season prop bet and defensive tackle room review

The Browns defensive tackle room is a strong unit

Only a couple of weeks remain in the off-season before the team reports for training camp and practices for the 2024 season begin. Our friends over at BetMGM have released many of their prop bets and have some interesting lines for the Browns.

We also continue our position review series for the Browns, turning to one of the most improved units in the defensive tackle room over the last couple of years. The group is headlined by two experienced three-down veterans, Dalvin Tomlinson and Shelby Harris.

Overall, the pass rush ability of Quinton Jefferson, Mike Hall Jr., and Maurice Hurst II, mixed with Tomlinson and Harris, creates a formidable group. If the offense can carry some leads into the fourth quarter and let the defensive line pin their ears back and attack the quarterback, it will be a tall task to come back against Cleveland.

Browns Podcast: Breaking down the offensive tackle room and more

There are some questions surrounding the tackle group

Training camp for the 2024 Cleveland Browns season is just a few weeks away, with rookies reporting on July 22nd at Veterans on the 23rd.

Last week, some videos were posted to social media showing Nick Chubb completing stability drills on his injured knee. That is significant, and realistically, Chubb could return earlier than previously thought.

Last year, the depth at offensive tackle was tested. The team started players off the street as their top three tackles suffered season-ending injuries. Jedrick Wills Jr. is in a contract year, and the team still isn’t sure if he is the answer with inconsistent play throughout his career so far.

Jack Conklin has battled back-to-back season-ending injuries, and promising young right tackle Dawand Jones will push to start after a great rookie season. You can hear a complete breakdown of the offensive tackle group by watching our latest episode by clicking here.

Browns Podcast: Previewing the Week 2 match up vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

What do the Browns face in their Week 2 match up?

In 2023, the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars faced off on December 10th. The Browns won 31-28 at home, their eighth win of the season. This year, the game will take place in Jacksonville for Cleveland’s first road game of the 2024 season.

The Jaguars are going through some changes as a team, and they have added a ton of firepower for quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who signed a massive extension this offseason. After giving a large contract to former Buffalo Bill Gabe Davis, the team drafted one of this year’s most explosive wide receiver prospects in LSU’s Brian Thomas Jr.

On the defensive side of the football, the team added Arik Armstead to an already talented defensive line, with Josh Allen and Travon Walker causing havoc for opposing quarterbacks. Combined with a talented group of corners and safeties, the defense down south will be no joke this season.
