Photographer showcases similarities between LeBron and Bronny’s dunks

Basketball photographer Cassy Athena captured a beautiful side-by-side of LeBron James and his eldest son looking similar as they dunk.

Tuesday night was a huge basketball night in the James Family household as LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers notched their best win of the young season against the Denver Nuggets before Bronny James Jr. made his first career high school start and his home debut for the Sierra Canyon Trail Blazers.

Reports from the scene at Sierra Canyon depicted a Beatlemania-type atmosphere, with a sellout crowd and media outlets from all over the country in attendance for freshman James’ first start. But one photographer captured the essence of why so many are gravitating to Bronny’s first high school season.

Basketball photographer Cassy Athena took a pair of her photos of Bronny and LeBron, with the similarities being as striking as could be side-by-side.

Bronny has a long way to go before getting to LeBron’s level on the court but the following and intrigue surrounding him are unlike anything his father at this point in his young career.

He won’t be expected to be a leader on his team this season, but he’s already showing some flashes that the apple doesn’t fall from the tree.

Bronny James throws down dunk in first career start for Sierra Canyon

Bronny James Jr. made his first career high school start on Tuesday night and made some big plays in a win for Sierra Canyon.

Moments after LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers notched their most impressive win of the season to this point with last night’s 105-96 victory over the Denver Nuggets, the James family reached another milestone on the basketball court.

Bronny James Jr., LeBron’s eldest son, got his first career high school start for the Sierra Canyon Trail Blazers on Tuesday night, according to Tarek Fattal of the L.A. Daily News. Fattal also spoke with Sierra Canyon coach Andre Chevalier, who said that Bronny’s consistency in practice earned him the start on Tuesday.

“(Bronny) has been consistent in practice,” Sierra Canyon coach Andre Chevalier said of James earning the start. “He’s the only guy this year that’s practiced everyday. He stepped into the opportunity when it presented itself.”

Bronny is on a team with a couple of top recruits and several players who are off to Division 1 schools next year, so his stats aren’t going to be blowing anybody away as he finds a way to fit in with a group of more mature players. But he did already get a highlight on the board in his first start with an alley-oop dunk, to score two of his four points on the night.

Bronny James and Zaire Wade blew out their opponents in their first high school game together

What a team!

A quick reminder that Sierra Canyon’s boys hoops team has Zaire Wade (Dwyane’s son), Bronny James (the offspring of LeBron) and future Kentucky star BJ Boston on its roster. That’s a whole lot of talent on one team.

So it’s not that surprising that the squad defeated Montgomery High 91-44, a game that was shown on ESPN3 on Thursday.

Wade’s dad was in attendance, with the crowd in attendance going nuts when he came to sit at courtside to watch the game. I’m not sure if he was around to see Wade catch an alley-oop pass and slam it home:

James’s first shot as a high school player was a three from near the corner:

Yup. This is going to be fun to watch:

Bronny James scores 10 points for Sierra Canyon in high school basketball debut

Bronny James scores 10 points for No. 3 ranked Sierra Canyon Trailblazers in high school basketball debut.

Bronny James made his high school basketball debut for Sierra Canyon on Thursday and played well coming off the bench during an overwhelming victory. The oldest son of LeBron James is only a freshman and has already earned a spot in the rotation for a high school hoops juggernaut that is currently ranked No. 3 in the country.

During what was eventually decided as a 91-44 victory over Montgomery High School in San Diego at the San Diego Tip-Off Challenge, James would connect on a pair of triples and finish with 10 points. With 7:12 remaining in the second quarter, Bronny would connect on a 3-pointer from the left wing for the first high school bucket of his career.

Jordan Divens of MaxPreps.com described the win for the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers as a wire-to-wire victory.

“The two-time defending CIF Open Division state champions jumped to a 7-0 advantage and led by as many as 53 points in the wire-to-wire victory.

The Trailblazers were paced by strong efforts from Kentucky pledge B.J. Boston, who finished with 22 points to lead all scorers, and TCU commit Terren Frank, who chipped in 20.

James – the son of Lakers star and NBA legend LeBron James – produced 10 points off the bench. The freshman knocked down a pair of threes from the left corner and added a couple of layups.”

As a note, the 10 points that Bronny scored were just one half point away from the over/under of 10.5 on the season that BetOnline released just before tip-off. Meanwhile, Dwyane Wade’s son, Zaire Wade, added six points for Sierra Canyon in the victory.

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade had the Miami Heat from 2010 until 2014. Now, their sons LeBron James Jr. and Zaire Wade have Sierra Canyon.

The younger generation of the NBA champions will team up to create a powerhouse high school in Southern California. They will have 15 games broadcasted on ESPN during their first season together as high school stars.

As the spotlight shines on these basketball stars with a constant buzz on television and social media, the high school team is given a pro-feel to its coverage. That means there is already an over-under set for how many points per game James will score as a freshman.

Somehow, via BetOnline, that means you can actually put your hard-earned money on the scoring averages of a 15-year-old basketball player.

Considering this is his first year playing at the high school level and he will join a team contending for the state title, the odds are currently at a modest 10.5 points per game.

The over-under for Wade, who is an incoming senior for Sierra Canyon, is 14.5 points per game. Wade averaged 7.7 points per game for his AAU team on the D1 circuit in the Nike EYBL competition.

James and Wade will also be joined by five-star senior shooting guard BJ Boston (Kentucky), four-star senior power forward Terren Frank (TCU), five-star senior small forward Ziaire Williams and five-star sophomore shooting guard Amari Bailey.

Their odds to win the state championship are -300, giving them an implied probability of 75 percent to take home the open division title. They have also won the state title in 2015, 2018 and 2019.

Bronny James, Zaire Wade to appear on ESPN networks 15 times this year

The Sierra Canyon basketball team will be televised nationally on the ESPN family of networks 15 times during the upcoming season.

Bronny James, Zaire Wade and the Sierra Canyon basketball team will be televised nationally on the ESPN family of networks 15 times during the upcoming season, according to Eric Sondheimer of the L.A. Times.

With the sons of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade set to play this season, the sports network likely jumped at the opportunity to televise the team. Sierra Canyon will make its debut on ESPN3 on Nov. 21.

The team will face high expectations this season as the defending CIF State Basketball champions. With Bronny and Zaire in the picture, Sierra Canyon went on a 12-day trip to China in September and was greeted to much fanfare as every arena was sold out to watch the group play.

Former three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas revealed over the summer that he had been training with Bronny and believes he is already a freak and will one day challenge his father’s stats in the NBA.
