Georgia OT Broderick Jones compared to former Bulldog ahead of draft

UGA left tackle Broderick Jones has been compared to a fellow Georgia standout ahead of the NFL draft

Georgia Bulldogs left tackle Broderick Jones has been compared to former Georgia left tackle Andrew Thomas ahead of the 2023 NFL draft. Jones is currently projected, per Draft Wire, to be drafted with the No. 14 selection of the draft.

Jones’ predraft visits include the Tennessee Titans, New England Patriots, and New York Jets. Broderick Jones is a former five-star recruit. He tested quite well at the NFL combine and is extremely athletic.

Broderick Jones has a lot of talent and is quite mobile, but does not come to the NFL with a ton of game experience. Jones started for Georgia in 2022 and played a key role in Georgia’s national championship win over Alabama a couple years ago.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compares Broderick Jones to New York Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas. Jones and Thomas never played together, but they both played left tackle at a very high level during their careers at Georgia.

Ultra-athletic tackle prospect with the size, length and potential to develop into a plus starter on the left side. Jones’ frame and technique both are in the developmental phase. His entry into block fits can be a little disjointed. He needs to improve his punch accuracy and timing to make the most of his length in pass protection. Jones is very talented at working into space and landing a block to help spring the running game. He has the nimble feet to mirror or recover against the rush. Jones isn’t a finished product, but the physical and athletic gifts allow for a projection as a good, long-time starter.

It took Andrew Thomas some time to adjust to the NFL with the New York Giants. However, Thomas had an outstanding season in 2022. Thomas was the No. 4 pick of the 2020 NFL draft.
