Ex-Titans punter Brett Kern inactive for Super Bowl 57

Former Titans punter Brett Kern can still win a ring, but he won’t be playing in the actual game.

Former Tennessee Titans punter Brett Kern is in line to get his first ring on Sunday night when the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. Unfortunately, Kern won’t be playing in the actual game.

The Eagles revealed their list of inactives for The Big Game and Kern was among those who won’t be suiting up. Philly is instead opting to go with the punter Kern replaced upon going to Philly, Arryn Siposs.

The writing was on the wall that this would happen. Kern was struggling during his time in Philly, and the Eagles activated Siposs from injured reserve on Saturday.

The good news is Kern will still get a ring if the Eagles win, but it’ll be disappointing not seeing him out there taking part in the game.

Kern is one of three former Titans up for a ring in Super Bowl LVII. Eagles wideout A.J. Brown and Chiefs defensive back Ugo Amadi are also hoping for a title. Like Kern, Amadi won’t be suiting up, either.

5 ex-Broncos players involved in Super Bowl LVII

Remember former Broncos punter Brett Kern? He’s now aiming to win a Super Bowl with the Eagles.

Five former members of the Denver Broncos will be involved in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday evening.

For the Philadelphia Eagles, punter Brett Kern will have a key role on special teams. Kern started his career with the Broncos in 2008 and played two seasons in Denver before later going on to become a three-time Pro Bowler with the Tennessee Titans.

The Eagles also have three former Broncos on their practice squad: wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland, safety Anthony Harris and cornerback Mac McCain III. Cleveland is a former Denver draft pick who spent time on the Broncos’ practice squad with Harris earlier this season.

McCain signed with Denver as a college free agent in 2021. He bounced between the Broncos and Eagles three times as a rookie and has now settled in on Philly’s practice squad.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, have former Denver running back Melvin Gordon on their practice squad. Gordon played with the Broncos from 2020-2022 before being cut midway through the 2022 season.

Sunday’s Super Bowl will be televised on Fox.

Ex-Titans punter Brett Kern may not play in Super Bowl after all

Brett Kern is in danger of being inactive for the Chiefs-Eagles Super Bowl contest.

Former Tennessee Titans and current Philadelphia Eagles punter Brett Kern has a chance to win the first Super Bowl ring of his career on Sunday, but he may not take part in the actual game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

On Saturday, the Eagles announced they have activated their starting punter, Arryn Siposs, from injured reserve. Siposs was placed on the list after Week 14 due to an ankle injury, which led to the Kern signing.

It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but there’s a very real chance that Kern, who has struggled with the Eagles, will be inactive for the Super Bowl in favor of Siposs.

Here’s more from Eagles Wire on Kern’s struggles:

While out with the injury, Siposs was replaced by the 36-year-old Brett Kern, who has averaged 40.8 yards per kick with a 36.6 net — both career lows for the 15-year veteran.

His 40.8 is the lowest by an Eagles punter since Reggie Hodges averaged 36.8 during the 2005 season and was replaced by Sean Landeta.

The good news is, even if Kern is inactive, he will still get a ring, but it would no doubt be disappointing for him not to play in the actual game.

Kern isn’t the only former Titan with a shot for a Super Bowl ring on Sunday. Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown and Chiefs practice squad defensive back Ugo Amadi are two others. Amadi won’t be active for the game, though.

3 ex-Titans have a chance for a Super Bowl ring

There are three former Titans vying for their first Super Bowl ring.

When the Philadelphia Eagles meet the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday, there will be three former Tennessee Titans players with a chance to win a ring.

On the Eagles, former Titans punter Brett Kern and wide receiver A.J. Brown will each have a shot at their first. On the Chiefs, defensive back Ugo Amadi, who is also a Tennessee native, is the other ex-Titan in the Big Game. He’s currently on Kansas City’s practice squad, though, so he may not play.

While Titans fans are very much divided on their desire to see Brown win a title after everything that transpired following the trade, there is pretty much 100 percent support for Kern to win one.

Earlier this week, Brown said he had “no hard feelings” towards the Titans or their fans despite his ugly exit from Nashville.

“I think early on as a man I could say I was speaking from a place of feelings, and I had to learn it’s a business,” Brown said, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online. “But I have no hard feelings for nobody in Tennessee, the fans, none of that. Tennessee gave me my first shot, so there’s definitely respect… I still have love for Tennessee.”

Super Bowl LVII will kick off from Glendale, Arizona, on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Eagles opened the 21-day practice window for punter Arryn Siposs

A huge weapon will be returning for #SuperBowl as the Philadelphia Eagles opened up the 21 day practice window for punter Arryn Siposs ahead of the matchup vs. Kansas City Chiefs

The Eagles are getting a key weapon back for the Super Bowl, as the team activated the 21-day practice window for punter Arryn Siposs.

Siposs had been out since he suffered a high ankle sprain while trying to advance a blocked punt in the win over the Giants in December.

Brett Kern talks Super Bowl, Ryan Stonehouse, support from Titans fans

Brett Kern also spoke about his workout with the Colts, which he said “just didn’t feel right.”

Former Tennessee Titans and current Philadelphia Eagles punter Brett Kern is going to the Super Bowl for the first time in his 15-year career after his team beat the San Francisco 49ers last weekend.

Kern was recently a guest on “3HL” on 104.5 The Zone and talked about making his first trip to the Super Bowl.

“I didn’t sleep much last night,” Kern said on Monday. “My wife brought my kids up, we had a great time celebrating after the game. And after something like that it’s really hard to wind down. I generally have a hard time winding down after games, especially ones that finish later, but when you’re going to the Super Bowl, it’s different.

“So, once the Advil kind of wore off, I was still pretty hyped up, so it’s been a crazy last 24 hours.”

After being cut by the Titans in favor of rookie Ryan Stonehouse, Kern didn’t imagine he’d get an opportunity like the one he has with the Eagles. He also heaped praise on Stonehouse, who he called a “young stud.”

“Honestly, no,” he said about expecting to get an opportunity like the one with the Eagles. “After everything happened in Tennessee… it worked out pretty well for y’all. I mean, you’ve got a young stud that just went out and smashed an NFL record. And I know how hard it is — I was close to getting that in 2017, and with the end-of-the-year weather, it’s so hard.

“For him to be able to crush that record and how he did it, that’s something really special. He’s young, talented, so Titans fans are setup for awhile with some good special teams.”

Kern said he was “obviously surprised” when he was cut, but still felt like he had gas left in the tank to continue playing. He had multiple workouts in his quest to find a new home, including one with the Indianapolis Colts, which Kern said “just didn’t feel right.”

“When everything went down, I was obviously surprised, but I just had multiple conversations with my wife as far as feeling like I was in good shape,” he explained.

“Just working out over at Lipscomb with some snappers and other punters… and just kind of staying patient. Wasn’t really sure what was going to happen. Had a couple of workouts; went up to Indy for a workout, which was really weird, putting on Indy clothes for a workout. It just didn’t feel right.”

“Had a couple more [workouts], and then obviously when Philly called it was an unbelievable opportunity,” he added.

There has been overwhelming support from Titans fans for Kern to win his first Super Bowl, something he has definitely taken notice of and appreciates.

“It’s special,” Kern said. “Just that city that you played for for 13 years. It’s hard when you’re a Titans fan or you’re a certain fan of a team, you necessarily don’t want to root for other teams, right?

“To kind of feel that support, it means a lot, just because I know that from my time in Tennessee I made an impact with people, which is pretty hard to do for the position I do. I’m usually the one where you’re booing the offense because the punt team is coming out, or that’s the perfect time to go grab a beer, right? Like, it’s fourth down, who cares about special teams?” Kern joked.

“So, to feel that love is special and obviously Nashville will always be my home for my family and I, and I’m extremely blessed to be able to be there and to raise my family there. And I’m very thankful for the fanbase, for the love that they’ve shown.”

Titans Twitter reacts to A.J. Brown, Brett Kern getting to Super Bowl

Titans Twitter reacts to A.J. Brown, Brett Kern getting to Super Bowl

Two very notable former Tennessee Titans will be playing in this year’s Super Bowl, as punter Brett Kern and wide receiver A.J. Brown will make their first appearance each in the Big Game as members of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles disposed of the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon in a 31-7 beatdown. Philly will meet the Kansas City Chiefs, who narrowly defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in the night game, 23-20.

Seeing Kern reach a Super Bowl is a much easier pill to swallow after the beloved long-time former Titans punter was cut prior to the 2022 campaign in favor of Ryan Stonehouse, who went on to have a historic rookie season.

The same cannot be said for Brown, who became a villain with Titans fans in the aftermath of a terrible trade that will no doubt haunt the team and its fans for years to come.

Here’s a look at the full reaction.

The NFL couldn’t figure out if the SkyCam wire ruined an Eagles punt and fans were frustrated

Has the SkyCam wire struck again?

The city of Philadelphia is about to have a very serious grudge with wires after a controversial moment during the Eagles’ NFC championship game with the San Francisco 49ers.

On a punt from Philly’s Brett Kern, the ball looked to take a strange shift in motion. The Eagles almost immediately blamed the wire hanging over the field that helps steady FOX’s SkyCam.

The Eagles were hoping that the potential snafu would give them new life on the drive or at the very least give them better room to punt. However, the NFL referees couldn’t conclusively say whether or not the ball actually hit the wire, leading to this hilarious admission.

The SkyCam wire has been the subject of controversy already this season, and it has popped up again in one of the biggest games on the NFL calendar.

It’s just one of those strange occurrences that doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it gets everyone talking.

4 former Titans players on conference championship teams

There are four former Titans who are on teams playing for a chance to go to the Super Bowl on Sunday.

The next round of the playoffs is set to kickoff on Sunday this weekend, and there are still some former Titans on three of the four remaining teams who have a shot to go to the Super Bowl.

The four remaining teams include the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals, and the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers.

The Chiefs will host the Bengals in the AFC Championship Game, while the Eagles will be at home against the Niners in the NFC Championship Game.

Of those four teams, the Bengals are the only one that doesn’t sport any former Titans players.

Without further ado, the four former Titans players who are on conference-title teams this weekend with a chance to go to the Super Bowl in a few weeks.

List of former Titans players on playoff teams

The list of former Titans players who are on playoff teams.

While the Tennessee Titans didn’t make the playoffs this season following their epic collapse in the AFC South, the team does have a slew of former players who did with their respective squads.

Two of the biggest names in that group are Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown and punter Brett Kern. Of course, Brown was traded to Philly last offseason, while Kern was signed late in the season.

Brown has become a villain with Titans fans since the trade, and the fact that the deal has turned out horribly so far would make the former second-round pick winning a Super Bowl an even tougher pill to swallow.

On the flip side, Titans fans would love to see Kern win his first ring, something that would no doubt soften the blow of seeing Brown hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

But those are just two of the former Titans in this year’s playoffs. Check out the rest.
