‘The Sheriff’ meets … the sheriff (and he has a cool caddie)

Peyton Manning, ‘The Sheriff,’ met DC’s sheriff at the BWM Championship. Manning competed in the pro-am with Brandon Stokley as his caddie.

Peyton Manning, a.k.a “The Sheriff,” participated in the pro-am portion of the BMW Championship at the Castle Pines Golf Club earlier this week.

While at the golf tournament, Manning met Sheriff Darren Weekly, who serves as the sheriff of Douglas County in Colorado.

“We just couldn’t resist: The Sheriff with ‘The Sheriff,'” The DC sheriff’s office tweeted on Wednesday. “@SheriffWeekly had the pleasure of meeting former Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning on the 9th hole of the @BMWchamps ProAm. Manning, famously nicknamed “The Sheriff” by Jon Gruden for how he “lays down the law” in opposing teams’ stadiums, took a moment to chat with our very own Sheriff.”

Now that’s a photo op.

And get this — Manning’s caddie was a former teammate:

That’s right, that’s retired wide receiver Brandon Stokley, who played with Manning with the Indianapolis Colts from 2003-2006 and again with the Broncos in 2012. Manning and Stokley remain close friends.

Peyton Manning stars in commercial for BMW Championship; will compete in pro-am

Peyton Manning and John Elway starred in a funny commercial promoting the BMW Championship at Castle Pines.

The BMW Championship will be held at the Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado this week with the top 50 professionals in the sport.

Earlier this summer, former Denver Broncos quarterbacks Peyton Manning and John Elway starred in a commercial promoting the event:

The PGA Tour’s website notes that Manning “made a hole-in-one in his first round as a Castle Pines member.” Elway is also a member at the club.

The BMW Championship has a $20 million prize and 2,000 FedExCup points on the line this week. Manning will participate in a lower-stakes pro-am on Wednesday with former teammate Brandon Stokley serving as his caddie, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Manning previously served as an honorary chair for the 2023 U.S. Amateur Championship last summer. He has competed in the “The Match,” a charity event, twice, including a victory over Tom Brady in 2020. (And he has a sweet golf cart.)

The BMW Championship will be televised on the GOLF Channel and NBC this week. Scottie Scheffler is considered the favorite to win.

Ex-Giant Brandon Stokley pokes a little fun at Eli Manning

Former New York Giants WR Brandon Stokley used his time with Peyton Manning to poke a little fun at Eli Manning on Twitter.

Eli Manning is considered by many to be the greatest quarterback to play for the New York Giants. He made six playoff appearances, including two trips to the Super Bowl. He played his entire career in New York and despite constantly taking the blame for failures that weren’t his fault, he stuck around and smiled through it all.

A few days ago, Manning illustrated the smarts of one of his former receivers, Domenik Hixon, and explained how Hixon read a specific route.

Another former Giants wide receiver, Brandon Stokley, decided to poke a little fun over it.

Stokley played 15 seasons in the NFL, but only five of them were with Peyton Manning. He bounced around to various teams throughout his career, including a couple of games with the Giants.

Did Stokley intend the tweet as a joke? A jab at Eli? Or did he intend it as a stab at Kevin Gilbride’s scheme, which was known to be complex?

Probably a lot more of the former. After all, Stokley was very vocal about the Giants and Manning in 2017 when then-head coach Ben McAdoo decided to bench him.

Manning developed quite a bond with most of his teammates and certainly many of his receivers. They often talk glowingly about him but that doesn’t stop them from poking fun here and there — something Manning himself often does.

Drew Lock gets advice from Peyton Manning about offseason workouts with WRs

Broncos quarterback Drew Lock spoke with Peyton Manning about organizing offseason workouts with his wide receivers.

Peyton Manning is continuing to help groom Drew Lock.

The Broncos’ second-year quarterback recently had a 90-minute phone conversation with Manning about topics including what film to watch in the offseason, “when to start throwing [and] when to try and get the receivers together,” according to 104.3 The Fan’s Brandon Stokley.

Stokley is a former NFL wide receiver who played with Manning from 2003-2006 (with the Colts) and again in 2012 (with the Broncos). Stokley is one of Manning’s good friends so he’s a reliable source when it comes to something like this.

During his playing days, Manning would take his wide receivers (and some tight ends and running backs) to Duke for offseason workouts. It sounds like Lock plans to follow in Manning’s footsteps and organize some workouts with his teammates this offseason.

Manning has demonstrated a willingness to help Lock any way he can.

“[I] try to be there as a resource,” Manning told Stokley during an interview in January. “If I can help him, I’m certainly happy to try.”
