Patriots schedule first known external interview for de facto GM job

The Patriots have scheduled an interview for their de facto general manager job

The New England Patriots have reportedly scheduled an interview with Philadelphia Eagles director of scouting Brandon Hunt for their lead personnel job, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

An official title hasn’t been placed on the job, but the candidate chosen is expected to serve as the de facto general manager for the Patriots organization.

Hunt worked his way up as a front office intern and pro scout coordinator with the Pittsburgh Steelers before eventually landing the front office executive job in Philly. He is the first known outside candidate to be interviewed for the job in New England.

Multiple candidates declined the Patriots’ requests for interviews, including Cincinnati Bengals senior personnel executive Trey Brown, former Arizona Cardinals VP of player personnel Quentin Harris and Buffalo Bills director of player personnel Terrance Gray.

There is still belief that Patriots director of scouting and current de facto general manager Eliot Wolf will ultimately win the job, which is why so many other candidates have denied interview requests.

The Eagles could be set to lose another key member of the front office personnel, as Adam Schefter reports that Brandon Hunt will interview for the Patriots lead personnel job (GM).

Hunt was a homegrown talent for the Steelers and a Pittsburgh native who attended IUP and had been learning on the job under Kevin Colbert for almost 15 years.

Hunt officially joined Pittsburgh’s scouting department in 2010 and was named the pro scouting coordinator for Houston after Doug Whaley was hired as the general manager of the Buffalo Bills.

The move to Philadelphia was essentially a trade of front-office personnel, with Andy Weidl joining the Steelers as Omar Khan’s assistant GM.

For New England, the interview process is a chance to balance the front office with proper titles after former head coach Bill Belichick did not have a traditionally titled general manager in his 24 seasons.

Krafts (ownership) hasn’t employed one since owning the team, and current senior personnel Eliot Wolf is the favorite to land the job.

Raiders interview Steelers personnel man Brandon Hunt for General Manager position

The latest GM interview for the Raiders is with Steelers personnel man Brandon Hunt

The interviews continue for the Raiders as they attempt to hire a new General Manager. Today the seventh report came out of the Raiders interviewing a candidate. Tuesday they interviewed Steelers Pro Scouting Coordinator Brandon Hunt according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Hunt has been in his position with the Steelers for the past 12 years. The Steelers have not had a losing season in that time. Or three years prior. Not to say their success is attributed to Hunt, but being in a winning environment for that long lends some credibility being that he is well versed in how a winning club operates.
