The first-round pick has missed the past seven games with an injury and has not played since Feb. 24.

In addition to Clarke, the Grizzlies have also played without Jaren Jackson Jr. recently, who has missed the past eight games with left knee soreness. In 50 games played this season, Clarke is averaging 12 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists with the Grizzlies. Clarke previously missed seven games this season with injuries to his oblique, left hip and back.

Brandon Clarke tied a career-high with 27 points during Grizzlies’ win

The first-round pick nearly couldn’t miss on Wednesday as the Grizzlies defeated the Trail Blazers.

Brandon Clarke matched a career-high with 27 points off of the bench on Wednesday night to help lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a 111-104 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Clarke finished by shooting 12-of-14 from the field while he added six rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block in 23 minutes of work as the Grizzlies will enter the All-Star break as winners of two straight games.

The 21st overall pick used his athleticism down low in the paint throughout the night from putback dunks to converting lobs from teammates. Clarke also put forth a strong defensive effort, which ultimately helped the Grizzlies win.

Clarke has been among the most efficient player in the NBA this season.

According to StatMuse, Clarke is on pace to have the best true shooting percentage (65) by a rookie in NBA history. Clarke is averaging 12.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while he is shooting 62.3% from the field this season, which ranks fifth in the NBA among all players.

While teammate Ja Morant has certainly headlined the rookie class this season, Clarke has been among the other top first-year players and could find himself on an NBA All-Rookie Team at the end of the season.

Clarke will participate in the NBA Rising Stars Game on Friday.

2020 NBA Rising Stars: Williamson, Morant among rookies selected

Zion Williamson and Ja Morant were among the 10 rookies selected to play in the Rising Stars game during All-Star Weekend in Chicago.

New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson and Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant were among the rookies selected to play in the 2020 NBA Rising Stars game during All-Star Weekend in Chicago.

The 26th Rising Stars game will pit 10 first- and second-year NBA players from the United States against 10 first- and second-year NBA players from around the world in the league’s annual showcase.

Williamson was chosen to participate in the game as an injury replacement for Chicago Bulls center Wendell Carter Jr. after the second-year player recently suffered a sprained ankle. Carter is expected to be out until after the All-Star break.

NBA assistant coaches selected the Rising Stars rosters, with each of the league’s 30 teams submitting one ballot per coaching staff. A ballot consisted of four frontcourt players, four guards and two additional players at either position group for each team. Voters also had to choose a minimum of three first-year NBA players and three second-year NBA players for each team.

Coaches were not permitted to vote for any player on their team.

Grizzlies’ Brandon Clarke ranks in the 99th percentile on floaters

Clarke is shooting 64.4% from the field, including 45.7% from 3-point range this season for the Grizzlies.

Memphis Grizzlies first-round pick Brandon Clarke has quietly put together an impressive rookie campaign and much of his success can be attributed to his hot shooting.

Clarke is averaging 12.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 23 games played. Clarke is shooting 64.4% from the field, including 45.7% from 3-point range. He ranks fifth in the NBA among all players in field-goal percentage and eighth in true shooting percentage, according to NBA stats.

Put simply: Clarke is shooting well from all areas of the court.

To further illustrate just how well Clarke is shooting, Zach Lowe of ESPN pointed out on Friday in his weekly “Ten NBA things I like and don’t like” column that Clarke has been on fire from the floater range in the paint, shooting an astounding 63% in that area.

Seriously: Clarke is shooting 63% from floater range, which ranks in the 99th percentile among bigs. The potential power of the Jackson-Clarke duo lies in their ability to swap roles; either can screen and slice to the basket while the other spots up. Taylor Jenkins almost always has one big in the corner, and Clarke has hit half his corner 3s.

As Ja Morant has stolen most of the headlines this season with the Grizzlies, and rightfully so, Clarke has been an added bonus for the organization. The frontcourt pairing of Clarke and Jaren Jackson Jr. has been quite entertaining this season and should be among the best in the league in the future, as noted by Lowe.

The Grizzlies play next on Saturday against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Brandon Clarke dropped a career-high 27 points in Grizzlies’ collapse

Clarke became just the fourth rookie in NBA history to record at least 27 points and seven offensive rebounds off of the bench.

Lost in the shuffle of a monumental collapse by the Memphis Grizzlies was a career performance by Brandon Clarke as the first-round pick tallied 27 points and seven rebounds.

Clarke finished by shooting 13-of-19 from the field while his seven rebounds were all on the offensive end of the floor. He became just the fourth rookie in history to record at least 27 points and seven offensive rebounds off of the bench, according to Grizzlies PR.

The Grizzlies led the Oklahoma City Thunder by as many as 24 points in the third quarter on Wednesday but, for the second time this week, the Thunder clawed back into the game to pull off the comeback win. On Monday, the Thunder won after trailing by 26 points against the Chicago Bulls.

They became the first team over the last 20 years to overcome back-to-back 24-point deficits.

Despite the loss, the performance by Clarke continued what has been a strong rookie campaign. His 70.1% true shooting percentage ranks third in the NBA among all players and he is converting on 64.9% of his shots from the field, including 46.4% from 3-point range.

With such a young roster, blowing double-digit leads has become something of a regular occurrence in recent years as the Grizzlies nearly lost on Monday after leading the Heat by 17 points. The team is still learning how to play in these situations but they have proven to have a bright future ahead.
