UFC 281: Brad Riddell vs. Renato Moicano odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC 281 odds and lines between Brad Riddell and Renato Moicano, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

It a lightweight bout on the preliminary card, Brad Riddell takes on Renato Moicano Saturday at UFC 281 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the UFC 281: Brad Riddell vs. Renato Moicano odds, and make our expert picks and predictions.

The early prelims and prelims are available on ESPN+ with the early prelims at 6 p.m. ET and the prelims at 8 p.m. ET. The main card is available via pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET.

Riddell is coming off 2 straight losses over the last 12 months — a 3rd round knockout by Rafael Fiziev in Dec. and a 1st round guillotine choke by Jalin Turner in July. “Quake” was on a 7-fight win streak before that, including his first 4 fights in the UFC. All 4 of those UFC victories were via decision and lasted all 3 rounds.

Moicano has won 2 of his last 3 fights but is coming off a 5-round unanimous decision loss to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 272 in March. However, it was a catchweight bout at 160 pounds that Moicano agreed to just days before the event. Moicano boasts much more experience heading into this fight, with an 8-5 record in the UFC to Riddell’s 4-2 UFC record.

UFC 281: Riddell vs. Moicano picks and predictions

Records: Brad Riddell (10-3) | Renato Moicano (16-5-1)

Fight result (2-way line or moneyline)

The line is close as these fighters are quite evenly matched. They hold similar averages of significant strikes per minute (Riddell: 4.73; Moicano: 4.80) and takedowns per 15 minutes (Riddell: 1.85; Moicano: 1.70). The eye test shows that Riddell is more of a well-rounded striker while Moicano is a better grappler and more aggressive with shots to the head.

Riddell should try to keep this fight off the ground so he can land some technically-sound strikes and kicks on Moicano who is susceptible to eating a lot of hits. Moicano should try to out-wrestle Riddell and lock in a submission — that’s how Riddell has lost 2 of his 3 fights.

The problem for Moicano is that Riddell does have a solid takedown defense (62%) and should be able to earn the judges’ favor by landing more strikes and staying disciplined. Ultimately, I see this as a win for RIDDELL (+102) who could take this bout all 3 rounds and pick up a unanimous decision win.

Over/Under (O/U)

Five of Riddell’s last 7 fights went the distance and were all decision victories — 4 of them were unanimous. With Riddell looking to stand up and avoid submissions and Moicano never winning a fight by knockout, it seems likely this will last all 3 rounds.

Bet OVER 2.5 ROUNDS (-110).

Renato Moicano not afraid to stand with Brad Riddell at UFC 281: ‘My kickboxing is good too’

Renato Moicano welcomes a standup fight with Brad Riddell at UFC 281.

NEW YORK – [autotag]Renato Moicano[/autotag] welcomes a standup fight with [autotag]Brad Riddell[/autotag].

Moicano (16-5-1 MMA, 8-5 UFC) faces City Kickboxing’s Riddell (10-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC 281 featured prelim at Madison Square Garden in New York. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPNews and early prelims on ESPN+.

Moicano has shown moments of brilliance throughout his career with his win over Calvin Kattar and submissions over the likes of Cub Swanson and Alexander Hernandez. He sees Riddell as another tough challenge, but he’s ready to shine in “The World’s Most Famous Arena.”

“He’s a stud,” Moicano told reporters, including MMA Junkie, at media day. “He’s a great fighter, a great kickboxer. But at the end of the day, I have to punch him first. I only have good things to say about him. He’s a great fighter, but Saturday is gonna be my day, it’s gonna be my night. it’s gonna be my fight, and I’m ready. I’m ready to go over there and put on a show.”

[lawrence-related id=2595183,2595220,2595329]

With Riddell quickly getting tapped out in his past outing against Jalin Turner and Moicano winning most of his fights by submission, that could be a path to victory for the Brazilian. But Moicano says he’s game to stand toe to toe with the elite kickboxer.

“Even though he’s a great kickboxer and has a lot of experience, he’s evolving as an MMA fighter,” Moicano said. “We saw takedowns, we saw he’s trying to finish people – I don’t know. I feel my kickboxing is good too, so I’m not afraid.”

Brad Riddell says ‘high possibility’ that UFC 281 fight vs. Renato Moicano is a war – ‘but hopefully not’

Brad Riddell has been in his fair share of wars, but he’d rather his next fight at UFC 281 not be another one.

NEW YORK – [autotag]Brad Riddell[/autotag] has been in his fair share of wars, but he doesn’t want his next fight at UFC 281 to be another one.

From his UFC debut win against Jamie Mullarkey, to his Fight of the Night against Drew Dober, and his recent third-round knockout loss to Rafael Fiziev, Riddell (10-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) has been through plenty of entertaining scraps. He sees the same potential when he squares off against [autotag]Renato Moicano[/autotag] (16-5-1 MMA, 8-5 UFC) in Saturday’s featured prelim at Madison Square Garden but hopes he’s wrong.

“I don’t want it to be,” Riddell told reporters, including MMA Junkie, at media day. “I’ve been in a war every single time so far. I guess that’s like the people that I keep getting matched up with. They’re very durable, very skillful, and I’ve got another one. So high possibility but hopefully not.”

[lawrence-related id=2595263,2595256,2595287]

Although Moicano only has submission finishes on his resume, Riddell rates his striking skills highly.

“The guy is good at everything,” Riddell said. “Good striker, good grappler, he’s a veteran. I’m super excited. I watched that guy fight, and every time he comes, and obviously he’s not lacking any heart taking that last fight (dos Anjos) on short notice, so it’s gonna be a bit of a barnburner.”

UFC 281 takes place Saturday at Madison Square Garden. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on ESPNews and early prelims on ESPN+.

UFC 281 adds Renato Moicano vs. Brad Riddell to Madison Square Garden lineup

The UFC 281 lineup continues to get bigger and bigger.

The UFC’s return to Madison Square Garden continues to fill up with notable names.

A lightweight bout between [autotag]Renato Moicano[/autotag] (16-5-1 MMA, 8-5 UFC) and [autotag]Brad Riddell[/autotag] (10-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) is the most recent addition to UFC 281, the Nov. 12 pay-per-view event in New York.

Moicano announced the news Thursday in a Twitter Space with MMA Junkie, which subsequently confirmed the news with a second person with knowledge of the situation. That person asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Moicano has split his appearances so far in 2022. After a submission win against Alexander Hernandez in February, he turned around and took a short-notice fight against former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos less than one month later. The fight was five rounds. Moicano absorbed a ton of punishment but hung in the fight through the final bell. He ultimately lost a unanimous decision.

Riddell looks to bounce back after back-to-back finish losses to Rafael Fiziev and Jalin Turner. The two-fight skid comes on the heels of a seven-fight winning streak that included victories over Drew Dober, Jamie Mullarkey, and Magomed Mustafaev, among others.

With the addition, the UFC 281 lineup includes:

  • Champion Israel Adesanya vs. Alex Pereira – for middleweight title
  • Erin Blanchfield vs. Molly McCann
  • Dominick Reyes vs. Ryan Spann
  • Seungwoo Choi vs. Mike Trizano
  • Renato Moicano vs. Brad Riddell

UFC 276 post-event facts: Alexander Volkanovski joins exclusive club with 12-0 UFC start

Check out the facts and figures to come out of UFC 276, where Alexander Volkanovski continued his epic run with a 22nd consecutive win.

The biggest UFC event of the year thus far took place Saturday with UFC 276, which went down at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and featured a plethora of notable names – none more so than a pair of champions from Oceania.

In the main event, [autotag]Israel Adesanya[/autotag] (23-1 MMA, 12-1 UFC) outpointed [autotag]Jared Cannonier[/autotag] (15-6 MMA, 8-6 UFC) for a unanimous decision to defend the middleweight title. That win came soon after [autotag]Alexander Volkanovski[/autotag] (25-1 MMA, 12-0 UFC) defended the featherweight title against [autotag]Max Holloway[/autotag] (23-7 MMA, 19-7 UFC) with another unanimous decision in their trilogy bout.

UFC 276 video: Jalin Turner submits Brad Riddell in less than a minute

Watch Jalin Turner make quick work of Brad Riddell.

[autotag]Jalin Turner[/autotag] sure made a statement on Saturday night.

The UFC lightweight prospect made quick work of [autotag]Brad Riddell[/autotag] in his return to the octagon at UFC 276 in Las Vegas. Turner (13-5 MMA, 6-2 UFC) submitted Riddell (10-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) 45 seconds into their contest on the preliminary card.

[lawrence-related id=2559287]

Turner cracked Riddell early and quickly jumped in for a guillotine choke. He secured the submission and got the tap just seconds after the initial blow. It was an impressive showing by the 27-year-old, who finds himself on a five-fight wining streak.

UFC 276: Brad Riddell vs. Jalin Turner odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC 276 odds and lines between Brad Riddell vs. Jalin Turner, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a lightweight bout in the prelims, Brad Riddell and Jalin Turner meet Saturday at UFC 276 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Below, we analyze the UFC 276 Riddell vs. Turner odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The early prelims can be viewed on ESPN/ESPN+ at 6 p.m. ET, followed by the prelims on ABC/ESPN/ESPN+ at 8 p.m. The main card on Pay-Per-View starts at 10 p.m.

Riddell heads to the octagon looking to bounce back after a 3rd-round KO/TKO loss to Rafael Fiziev in early December at the UFC’s APEX Facility in Vegas. The loss was his 1st in 5 fights since arriving at the UFC level. His first 4 wins were each by decision.

Turner is on a 4-bout win streak, all by finishes. That includes a 2nd-round KO/TKO at UFC 272 last time out against Jamie Mullarkey in March. Two of those wins are via submission, and 2 by way of KO/TKO, showing his tremendous versatility. He hasn’t gone longer than 4:20 of the 2nd period in 6 of his 7 fights since arriving at the UFC level.

Turner has all the physical advantages in this fight, standing a whopping 8 inches taller than his counterpart, while posting a 6-inch reach advantage. The southpaw also holds a 6.51-to-4.76 significant strikes landed per minute advantage, and a 1.73 submission average while registering an amazing 80.00 takedown-accuracy percentage.

UFC 276 Riddell vs. Turner picks and predictions

Records: Riddell (10-2-0) | Turner (12-5-0)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

TURNER (-155) has been on a roll lately, scoring 4 consecutive stoppages, and doing so with his fists and in the ground game. He will use his tremendous physical advantages in height and reach to make quick work of Riddell (+120) in this prelim bout.

In addition to playing Turner straight up, I like TURNER BY TKO/KO (+175) at a nice price. He will use that 6-inch reach advantage to keep Riddell at arm’s length before going in for the kill.

Over/Under (O/U)

Turner generally doesn’t waste a lot of time when he does get the stoppage. Riddell, on the other hand, has ended up going the distance in 5 of his past 6 pro bouts, including 4 of 5 at the UFC level.

Riddell hasn’t faced a competitor like Turner, however. I expect this to go UNDER 2.5 ROUNDS (-175), and while it’s a little on the pricey side, this might be the best play on the board due to Turner’s knockout ability.

Winner of his past four in a row, Turner is coming off a second-round TKO of Jamie Mullarkey at UFC 272 in March. All four of his wins have come inside the distance.
