Alexander Povetkin’s one-punch knockout of Dillian Whyte this past Saturday turned Whyte’s career upside down and altered the immediate future of the heavyweight division.

Fans and others haven’t held back in taking shots at Whyte on social media, focusing on the fact that the Londoner seemed to be more focused on his position as mandatory challenger to Tyson Fury’s title than his fight with Povetkin.

Bob Arum, co-promoter of Fury, was among them. He tweeted: “Dillian Whyte was so busy fighting for his WBC mandatory position that he didn’t see Povetkin’s uppercut, which knocked him cold on his ass.”

Whyte will now have to defeat Povetkin in an expected rematch if he hopes to fight for a major title anytime soon.

And with Whyte out of the way, the winner of Fury-Deontay Wilder III is free to fight the winner of Anthony Joshua-Kubrat Pulev for the undisputed heavyweight championship.

Video: Ak and Barak: Should Oscar De La Hoya come back?

The Ak & Barak Show hosts Akin Reyes and Barak Bess discuss Oscar De La Hoya’s plan to return to the ring at 47.

Oscar De La Hoya recently announced his intention to return to the ring at 47 years old.

The Golden Boy hasn’t fought since he was stopped by Manny Pacquiao in 2008, a horrible beating that convinced him that he could no longer fight to his standards.

Twelve years later, inspired by Mike Tyson’s comeback, he has the itch to give it another try.

Good idea? Or is the once-great boxer courting disaster?

In this episode of The Ak & Barak Show, courtesy of DAZN, hosts Aken Reyes and Barak Bess give their thoughts on the fighter-turned-promoter-turned fighter-again.

One of the strangest moments of the year occurred on the Jessica McCaskill-Cecilia Braekhus undercard last Saturday in Tulsa, Okla.

Junior middleweight prospect Israil Madrimov landed a left hook that sent opponent Eric Walker sprawling in the ninth round of their scheduled 12-round fight. However, as Walker was going down, Madrimov’s momentum carried his body into Walker’s.

Thus, referee Gary Ritter ruled that it wasn’t a knockdown. That deprived Madrimov of a knockout because Walker was unable to continue immediately.

In the end, Walker was given time to recover and he survived to hear the final bell, although he lost a one-sided unanimous decision.

Should Madrimov have been given credit for a knockdown? Or was Ritter correct in his ruling?

In this episode of Jabs with Mannix and Mora, courtesy of DAZN, Chris Mannix and Sergio Mora give their thoughts on the unusual events in that fight.

Floyd Mayweather was rocked by the death of uncle and longtime mentor Roger Mayweather in March, as well as the passing of Josie Harris, the mother of his children.

Have those events changed his outlook on life? Well, he seems to have renewed his commitment to something he has always loved: boxing.

For example, he seems to be more hands on in the gym with the fighters he promotes. That includes the talented Gervonta Davis, with whom he has feuded the past few years.

Mayweather has even talked about making a serious run at becoming a trainer.

In this episode of The Ak & Barak Show, courtesy of DAZN, hosts Akin Reyes and Barak Bess discuss whether Mayweather has evolved as person.

Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. is set for Sept. 12.

The legends will meet on that date on pay-per-view at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif., in what has been billed as an exhibition, with proceeds to go to charity.

California officials say the “fight” will resemble a light sparing session, which many would argue makes sense given the ages of the 50-something principals.

However, once the opening bell rings and the adranline starts flowing, could the action be ratcheted up a notch? Could the geezers suddenly get serious in there?

In this episode of The Ak & Barak Show, courtesy of DAZN, hosts Akin Reyes and Barak Bess discuss that topic and more.

Video: Ak & Barak: Bob Arum discusses status of Fury-Wilder III

In this episode of The Ak & Barak Show, the hosts discuss the status of Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder III with promoter Bob Arum.

Heavyweight titleholder Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder are expected to meet for a third time before the end of the year.

Exactly when and where is uncertain.

They could meet in a bubble somewhere without spectators but that isn’t likely to happen because of the revenue that would be lost. The live gate would be huge.

Thus, the fighters’ handlers are trying to find a date and location — possibly outside the U.S. — that would allow at least a limited number of fans to attend the event.

In this episode of The Ak & Barak Show, courtesy of DAZN, hosts Akin Reyes and Barak Bess discuss the status of Fury-Wilder with promoter Bob Arum, the co-promoter of Fury. Here’s what Arum had to say.

Errol Spence Jr.’s welterweight title defense against Danny Garcia was announced last week.

Spence and Garcia will meet Nov. 21 on pay-per-view. No site has been determined, apparently in part because organizers hold out hope that spectators will be allowed to attend the event amid COVID-19.

Spence will be fighting for the first time since his horrific one-car accident in October, from which he says he has fully recovered.

Garcia is a former 147-pound titleholder but has lost his last two big fights at the weight, close decisions against Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter in world title fights.

Is this Garcia’s best chance to climb to the top of the division given that we don’t know whether the accident will have had long term effects on Spence? Is it Garcia’s last chance?

DAZN commentators Chris Mannix and Sergio Mora discuss that topic in this episode of Jabs with Mannix and Mora.

Can the the Taylor-Serrano fight be revived? If so, when?
