Season series: Cardinals lead 2-0

The Red Sox are coming off a 7-2 loss as -114 favorites in the 2nd game of the series Saturday with the Over (8.5) hitting. Boston has lost 4 straight games and 11 of 15.

Cardinals 2B Nolan Gorman hit a solo shot in the 2nd and singled home 2 runs as part of a 5-run 8th inning. St. Louis has won 5 of its last 6 games.

Red Sox at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Nick Pivetta vs. LHP Matthew Liberatore

Pivetta (1-2, 3.48 ERA) makes his 5th start. He has a 1.02 WHIP, 0.9 BB/9 and 9.6 K/9 in 20 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 8 K in 5-4 home win in 12 innings vs. Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday

Red Sox at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Sox 5, Cardinals 4

Moneyline

The RED SOX (-115) should be able to avoid the sweep with their advantage at starting pitcher.

The Cardinals had a chance to sweep the Angels in 3 games in their most recent series, and instead, they lost 7-2 as -116 road favorites in the series finale Wednesday. St. Louis is 21st in MLB with a 4.35 ERA and struggles to put together 3-4 consecutive good outings against an opponent.

BET RED SOX (-115).

Run line/Against the spread

Betting a team that has lost 4 straight games to win by 2 or more runs seems aggressive, and the Cardinals +1.5 (-185) is too expensive to take with Liberatore on the mound.

PASS. Bet the ML and/or total instead.

Over/Under

Pivetta has allowed 4 or more earned runs in 2 of his last 3 starts, and Liberatore just gave up 4 in 3 1/3 innings against the Angels Monday. Add in the fact the Cardinals have allowed 6 or more runs in 3 of their last 4, and there’s a good shot that this Over hits.

BET OVER 8.5 (-110).

Boston Red Sox at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Boston Red Sox at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

St. Louis Cardinals (19-25) welcome the Boston Red Sox (22-23) to Busch Stadium Saturday for the 2nd game of their 3-game series. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Red Sox vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Cardinals lead 1-0

The Red Sox have lost 3 in a row and dropped the first game of the series 10-6 Friday. They closed as a -101 moneyline underdog. Boston is 3-7 straight up over its last 10 games. The Red Sox have performed well on the road and are 12-10 in away games.

The Cardinals have won 4 of their last 5 games. St. Louis is 3-2 against the spread (ATS) over its last 5 and is 21-23 ATS on the season. St. Louis has been the 3rd-worst home team in the MLB with a 7-11 straight-up record. This recent string of wins have come following a 7-game losing streak.

Red Sox at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Kutter Crawford vs. RHP Miles Mikolas

Crawford (2-2, 2.24 ERA) makes his 10th start. He has a 1.11 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 8.9 K/9 through 52 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 1 BB, 6 K in 5-3 home loss to the Tampa Bay Rays Monday
  • 2024 home splits: 1-2, 2.73 ERA (29 2/3 IP, 9 ER), 25 H, 1 HR, 7 BB, 28 K in 5 starts
  • Career vs. Cardinals: 0-1, 9.00 ERA (4 IP, 4 ER), 0.79 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 1 start

Mikolas (3.5, 6.19 ERA) makes his 10th start. He has a 1.48 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9 and 6.6 K/9 through 48 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 6 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 3 K in 4-3 road win over the Milwaukee Brewers Sunday
  • 2024 home splits: 0-2, 7.63 ERA (15 1/3 IP, 13 ER), 24 H, 4 HR, 2 BB, 11 K in 3 starts

Red Sox at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Sox 5, Cardinals 3

Moneyline

BET RED SOX (-124).

Mikolas has been in a major slump as of late. He has had 3 or more ER in 5 of his last 6 starts, and the opposite can be said of Crawford, who has had 2 or fewer in 3 of his last 5.

The pitching advantage will go to Boston, and the Cardinals lack of home success is also concerning. They have lost 5 of their last 6 at home and are just 7-11 following a win, which they are here.

Considering those trends, back RED SOX (-124).

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

The Red Sox are too risky here as a run-line favorite and have failed to cover 5 straight games. The Cardinals have struggled too much at home and are too expensive as a run-line underdog.

Avoid this play.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 8.5 (-108).

Despite a high-scoring first game, both teams have trended towards the Under this season. Boston is 16-26-3 O/U and has gone Under in 6 of its last 8 games. It has gone Under in Crawford’s last 3 starts.

The Cardinals are 19-23-2 O/U on the season and are 2-7 O/U in Mikolas’ 9 starts. St. Louis is 7-11 O/U at home this season. Considering those trends, take the UNDER 8.5 (-108).

Boston Red Sox at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Boston Red Sox at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Boston Red Sox (22-22) take on the St. Louis Cardinals (18-25) Friday in the opener of a 3-game set at Busch Stadium at 8:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Red Sox vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; St. Louis won 3-0 last year

The Red Sox dropped their 3rd in 4 games Thursday with a 7-5 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. They made it interesting, though, as they battled back from 5-1 to tie it before succumbing. The Red Sox lead the majors with a 2.79 ERA and are tied for 15th with 4.3 R/game.

The Cardinals did what they do and failed to complete a sweep in a 7-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels Wednesday. They’re just 3-7 over their last 10 but come home for a 9-game homestand. Cardinals 1B Paul Goldschmidt is having an alarmingly bad season with a .206/.291/.300 slash line. He is hitting .140 with 22 K’s in 50 at-bats in May.

Red Sox at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Brayan Bello vs. RHP Kyle Gibson

Bello (4-1, 3.13 ERA) makes his 7th start. He has a 1.07 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 7.7 K/9 in 31 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 5 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 1 K Sunday against Washington Nationals
  • Has never faced Cardinals before
  • 2024 road stats: 2-0, 3.38 ERA (16 IP, 6 ER), 0.88 WHIP, 8.4 K/9 in 3 starts

Gibson (2-2, 3.67 ERA) makes his 9th start. He has a 1.20 WHIP, 3.7 BB/9 and 7.3 K/9 in 49 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 7 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 BB, 5 K Saturday against New York Mets
  • Last 5 GS vs. Boston: 3-1, 3.81 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, 21 K in 28 1/3 IP

Red Sox at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Sox 5, Cardinals 2

Moneyline

The Cardinals are tied for 27th with 3.6 R/game and have a miserable 6-11 record at home. They strike out a lot and pop up so many balls in their spacious park that there’s a saturation in the cans of corn market in the Midwest. The Cards also seem to struggle against pitchers they’re facing for the first time.

So, what do the Red Sox do well? Pitch. What do the Cardinals not do well? Hit.

Take the RED SOX -115.

Run line/Against the spread

OF Tyler O’Neill makes his return to St. Louis after the team kind of threw him under the bus with some comments questioning his desire to play. Well, he has shown that desire in his new uniform with 10 homers. I don’t expect a warm reception for him, and I expect him to have a big revenge series. Take TYLER O’NEILL OVER 1.5 H+R+RBI (-105).

If you’re interested in a lottery ticket or have a free bet, consider O’Neill to hit a home run at +600. He had a flair for the dramatic in St. Louis, and I could see him parking a couple this weekend.

Over/Under

The weather is expected to be a humid 71 degrees with a light 3-mph breeze out towards the left-field foul pole. The Red Sox are 2-8 O/U over their last 10, and the Cards are 7-3 due to a mix of bad pitching and increased offense against bad teams. This is a dangerous number, and I will pay the juice to take the ALTERNATE UNDER 8.5 (-130).
