Panthers at Bruins picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 3, Bruins 2

Moneyline

Per OddsShark, the PANTHERS (-145) are 5-2 across their last 7 games at TD Garden.

Florida is worthy of the edge in what we can expect to be tight, low-scoring, late-series playoff hockey. The Panthers are out-chancing the Bruins and in 8 playoff games have scored 3 goals or more 7 times.

Per Hockey-reference.com, in even-strength play, Florida owns a 60% Corsi number in this series. The Panthers have been held to fewer shots as the series has worn on, but that puck-possession number is worthy of attention. And in 5-on-5 play, Florida shooting just 7.6% for the series has the look of a number ripe for regression.

TAKE THE PANTHERS (-145).

Puck line/Against the spread

Late-series games have been a solid Under in these playoffs, and with these clubs, another 2-1 game or something thereabouts would seem to be in the cards. PASS on sliding the Panthers through with a multi-goal margin.

Over/Under

The Under has cashed in the last 2 games and is the play in this one.

Both teams can defend at a high level (both ranked in the NHL’s top 6 in goals-allowed average during the regular season). Swayman should have a lot of confidence, and the tone of this series looks to be going from loose to tight.

BACK THE UNDER 5.5 (-125).

Boston Bruins at Florida Panthers Game 5 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Boston Bruins at Florida Panthers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers meet in Game 5 of a best-of-7 Eastern Conference, 2nd-round series Tuesday. The Panthers lead the series 3-1. Puck drop from Amerant Bank Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Bruins vs. Panthers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Florida is on the precipice of advancing to the Eastern Conference Final as it has won 3 straight over Boston after dropping Game 1. Most recently, the Panthers battled back on Mother’s Day to defeat the Bruins 3-2, cashing as (-162) road favorites.

Boston has managed to record just 15, 17 and 18 shots respectively in their 3 consecutive losses. Florida D Gustav Forsling has been a big reason why the Bruins have found little success offensively. In Game 3, Boston attempted just 6 shots while the 27-year-old was on the ice, compared to 27 for the Panthers.

Bruins at Panthers projected goalies

Jeremy Swayman (5-5, 2.28 GAA, .930 SV%) vs. Sergei Bobrovsky (7-2, 2.55 GAA, .892 SV%)

Swayman has surrendered 12 goals in the last 3 games, 3 more than he did across six 1st-round outings vs. Toronto. Swayman, who appeared to challenge LW Matthew Tkachuk early in Game 4, told reporters Sunday he was unable to play his position on C Sam Bennett‘s 3rd-period power-play goal which tied it at 2.

Panthers captain C Aleksander Barkov was complimentary of their goaltender’s mental focus as he spoke to reporters after Game 4, and Bobrovsky did not let Bruins LW Pat Maroon rattle his cage during warmups. The 35-year-old shut out Boston for 40 minutes in Game 4 after allowing a couple of quick goals in the 1st period.

Bruins at Panthers picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 3, Bruins 2

Moneyline

INCLUDE PANTHERS (-205) IN A PARLAY.

Bruins LW Brad Marchand is out for this do-or-die matchup after getting punched by Bennett in Game 3, which caused Boston’s captain to miss Game 4 as well. The team will try to rally around the moment, but it won’t be enough against the defending conference champs.

Laying over 2 bucks on the ML is too steep, so we need a dance partner in a parlay. I like including the Panthers (-205) along with the Vancouver Canucks +1.5 (-152 at Edmonton Oilers, 9:30 p.m. ET), as Edmonton’s goaltending has struggled. That 2-leg parlay pays out +146.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

Instead of laying (-156) on Bruins +1.5, take a shot on WILL THERE BE OVERTIME: YES (+360).

Over/Under

BET UNDER 5.5 (-114).

These teams are at the top of the list among the 8 remaining playoff teams when it comes to hits delivered this postseason, and I am anticipating another physical, tight game. The Bruins are fighting to keep their season alive, and the Panthers don’t want to have to go back to Boston for a Game 6.

Panthers at Bruins projected goalies

Sergei Bobrovsky (36-17-4, 2.37 GAA, .915 SV%) vs. Jeremy Swayman (25-10-8, 2.53 GAA, .916 SV%)

Bobrovsky stopped 15 of 17 shots Friday. He owns an .892 SV% in these Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Panthers at Bruins picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 4, Bruins 2

Moneyline

Expect a relatively tight game, but Florida is worthy of the edge. The Panthers are out-chancing the Bruins and in 8 playoff games have scored 3 goals or more 7 times.

A Florida lean is here, and while a Panthers-by-2 play makes for more risk, the return on the Puck Line is solid. PASS on the ML; shoot for the plus money on getting the Panthers by with a cushion.

Puck line/Against the spread

Florida prevailing by a tally in the neighborhood of 4-2 or 5-3 isn’t an odd-on likelihood. But the return on a Panthers club with mojo makes for a sound investment on FLORIDA -1.5 (+170).

Over/Under

The Over has cashed in each of Florida’s last 6 games, and the Panthers have averaged a robust 33.9 shots per game over their last 7.

The Over is 7-3 across the last 10 Florida-Boston meetings.

Per NaturalStatTrick, 5-on-5 expected-goals-against numbers for these playoffs would peg both sides as being a tad defense-fortunate so far. Expect the Bruins to have a solid game defensively, especially in a down-in-the-series effort on home ice. But the pricing here is solid; in fact be prepared to move quickly to avoid a line change working against you.

BACK THE OVER 5.5 (+110).

Florida evened up the series by a score of 6-1 in Game 2 Wednesday, cashing as a (-156) home favorite. The Over came through for the 7th time in 10 matchups between these teams.

Panthers LW Matthew Tkachuk and Bruins RW David Pastrnak drew the postgame headlines for their fight in the 3rd period, while C Aleksander Barkov earned 3 Stars with 2 goals and 2 assists.

Prediction

Florida 4, Boston 3

Moneyline

BET FLORIDA (-125).

I would much rather back a Florida team that went on the road and won in overtime twice at TD Garden last postseason, as well as once in Toronto and twice more in Carolina.

If Friday night’s game is decided in regulation, the Panthers have had the better track record thus far, as their goal differential per 60 is best among Eastern Conference playoff teams (0.73).

Additionally, Florida has averaged the 3rd-most time per playoff game leading its opponent (25:13), so I expect it to maintain at least a 1-goal advantage and hold on for the Game 3 win.

Puck line/Against the spread

Consider adding Bruins +1.5 (-255) to a parlay.

This is too much juice for a single bet to back Boston +1.5 (-255). However, if you are looking to spread out action across multiple days, consider pairing the Bruins’ PL with the New York Rangers +1.5 (-200 at Carolina Hurricanes, Saturday at 7 p.m. ET), which would pay out +108 in a 2-leg parlay.

Over/Under

BET OVER 5.5 (-106).

RW Kyle Okposo and Tkachuk each have scored 4 goals with 6 assists this postseason.

C Carter Verhaeghe, who leads Florida with 5 goals, told reporters after Game 2 that the Panthers were “kind of out of it” due to having extended time off between playoff series. After a 6-goal performance in Game 2 that saw C Saw Reinhart record 4 assists, it seems like the Panthes are certainly back in it offensively.

Boston Bruins at Florida Panthers Game 2 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Boston Bruins at Florida Panthers odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers meet in Game 2 of a best-of-7 Eastern Conference, 2nd-round series Wednesday. The Bruins lead the series 1-0. Puck drop from Amerant Bank Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Lightning vs. Panthers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Boston took down Florida in Game 1 by a score of 5-1, cashing as a (+139) road underdog. After a scoreless 1st period, LW Matthew Tkachuk gave Florida a 1-0 advantage in the 2nd. C Morgan Geekie tied it up just over a minute later thanks to some traffic created by C Pavel Zacha, who was credited with the assist along with RW David Pastrnak.

In the same period, D Mason Lohrei would go onto score the eventual game-clinching 2nd Bruins goal, the 1st career postseason goal for the 23-year-old. D Brandon Carlo managed to make it back to South Florida in time for the game after the birth of his 2nd child and also lit the lamp to make it a 3-1 game after 40 minutes.

RW Justin Brazeau, who earned a spot in the Bruins lineup for the final 3 games of the Maple Leafs series, scored his 1st career playoff goal in the 3rd period. LW Jake DeBrusk tallied Boston’s 5th and final goal with an empty-netter, and now the Bruins have won 5 straight over Florida after choking away a 3-1 lead in last year’s 1st-round series.

Bruins at Panthers projected goalies

Jeremy Swayman (5-2, 1.42 GAA, .955 SV%) vs. Sergei Bobrovsky (4-2, 3.00 GAA, .890 SV%)

Swayman completed the Toronto series with the 6th-fewest goals allowed in a single playoff series since 2003-04, joining the likes of former Bruins Stanley Cup-winning goaltender Tim Thomas. The 25-year-old has allowed 2 or fewer goals in each of his postseason starts, tied for 2nd-best in NHL history.

Bobrovsky got off to a strong start in Game 1, stopping 13 shots, including 6 high-danger chances in the 1st period. The 2-time Vezina Trophy winner recorded 6 shutouts during the regular season, tied for the most in the NHL.

Prediction

Bruins 4, Panthers 3

Moneyline

BET BRUINS (+136).

Only 4 Boston players (David Krejci, Daniel Paille, Nathan Horton & Mirsolav Satan) in the past 30 years have recorded 3 or more game-winners in a single postseason.

LW Brad Marchand has a chance of joining that group, as the Bruins captain tallied 2 game-winners in the 1st round alone. Expect Marchand, Pastrnak & Co. to head back to Boston up 2-0.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

There’s no need to risk laying that much juice grabbing a puck and a half when the plus-money underdog price is out there.

Over/Under

BET OVER 5.5 (-106).

Boston is 1st amongst Eastern Conference playoff teams when it comes to expected goals for (17.57), while it also has allowed the most shots on goal against (198). Swayman has been splendid, but it’s hard to expect C Sam Reinhart, C Carter Verhaeghe and C Aleksander Barkov to stay in check offensively.

Bruins at Maple Leafs projected goalies

Jeremy Swayman (25-10-8, 2.53 GAA, .916 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Joseph Woll (12-11-1, 2.94 GAA, .907 SV%)

Swayman is the expected starter for the Bruins on Thursday. He has started in 4 of the 5 games in this series with a 3-1 record and just 6 total goals allowed. His 1.49 GAA and .952 SV% series averages are better than his season marks.

While Ilya Samsonov has seen the most production for the Maple Leafs this season, it is hard to see Woll not earning the start after his 1-goal victory on Tuesday. In his 2 appearances in this series, Woll has allowed just 1 goal with a .970 SV%.

Bruins at Maple Leafs picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 3, Maple Leafs 2

Moneyline

BET BRUINS (-110).

Boston has won both games in Toronto this series and is 3-1 in its last 4 road games. It had an uncharacteristically bad performance on Tuesday scoring just 1 goal, but it has held Toronto to 2 or fewer goals in 4 of the 5 games in this series. With Toronto’s lack of offense, expect the Bruins to close out the series on Thursday.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

There is no value on the puck line in either direction.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 5.5 (+100).

The Under has hit in 4 consecutive games in this series with the Bruins scoring 3 or fewer goals in 3 of the last 4 games and the Leafs scoring 3 or fewer goals in each of the 5 games. As always, with the season on the line, in a tight game in the closing minutes, there is a possibility of an empty net goal which would all but destroy an Under.

Maple Leafs at Bruins projected goalies

Ilya Samsonov (23-7-8, 3.13 GAA, .890 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Jeremy Swayman (25-10-8, 2.53 GAA, .916 SV%, 3 SO)

Samsonov ranks 38th in the NHL in GAA and 45th in SV%. He has allowed 2 or more goals in each game this series with his GAA (3.32) being slightly higher than his season average. His SV% in this series (.883) is slightly lower than his season average, as well.

Swayman has the 8th-best GAA in the NHL and is tied for the 5th-best SV%. Boston has won each game he has started in this series, with the goalie giving up 2 or fewer goals in each start. His 1.34 GAA and .956 SV% are both higher than his season averages.

Maple Leafs at Bruins picks and predictions

Prediction

Bruins 4, Maple Leafs 3

Moneyline

BET BRUINS (-165).

Returning home with a commanding lead, look for the Bruins to amp up the pressure in order to put this series away. They have won back-to-back games, both on the road, and have the Leafs on the ropes. They have not allowed more than 3 goals in any game this series and have scored 3 or more in 3 of the 4 games.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

While there is a chance for Boston to cover the -1.5 (+155) puck line, the moneyline is a safer play. If it comes down to their season on the line, the Maple Leafs would send the all-out attack and could sneakily erase a deficit.

Over/Under

BET OVER 5.5 (-120).

Boston has scored 3 or more goals in 3 of the 4 games thus fare with the teams scoring 6 or more goals in 2 of the 4 games. In a crucial Game 5, with the Bruins trying to put the Leafs away and the Leafs fighting to keep their season alive, expect a fast-paced, high-attack game resulting in more goals.

Boston Bruins at Toronto Maple Leafs Game 4 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Boston Bruins at Toronto Maple Leafs odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Boston Bruins visit the Toronto Maple Leafs for Game 4 of a best-of-7 Eastern Conference, 1st-round series Saturday. Puck drop from Scotiabank Arena is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET (TBS/CBC). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Bruins vs. Maple Leafs odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Boston gained control of the series with a 4-2 win Wednesday to cash as a -102 road underdog. LW Brad Marchand led the way with 2 goals and an assist, while 6 difference Bruins players were credited with at least 1 assist.

After stealing Game 2 on the road, Toronto dropped a crucial Game 3 at home while failing to cash as a -108 favorite. LW Tyler Bertuzzi and LW Matthew Knies each scored, but it was not enough to curb a 3-goal 3rd period from the Bruins.

Bruins at Maple Leafs projected goalies

Jeremy Swayman (25-10-8, 2.53 GAA, .916 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Ilya Samsonov (23-7-8, 3.13 GAA, .890 SV%, 3 SO)

Swayman has been a top goaltender in the NHL this season. His GAA is good for 8th-best, while his SV% is tied for 5th-best. He can be attributed as part of the reason for Boston’s success, especially in this series in which he has allowed just 3 goals in 2 games.

Samsonov ranks 38th or below in both GAA and SV%, while his record is tied for 17th-best in the league. He has allowed 2 or more goals in each of the 3 games this series, totaling 9 overall. The Leafs will need Samsonov to perform well for a shot at a win Saturday.

Bruins 3, Maple Leafs 2

Moneyline

BET BRUINS (-105).

Expect the Bruins to take a commanding lead in the series with a win Saturday.

Puck line/Against the spread
