Colorado State at Boise State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Colorado State Rams at Boise State Broncos odds and lines, with college football expert picks and predictions.

The Colorado State Rams (2-5, 2-1 Mountain West) and Boise State Broncos (5-2, 4-0) will wrangle in a Mountain West battle Saturday. Kickoff at Albertson’s Stadium is slated for 7 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Colorado State vs. Boise State odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Colorado State has averaged just 12.9 points per game this season (130th in  FBS), but the Rams have managed 2 wins in their last 3 games. CSU now heads out on the road for just the 2nd time since Sept. 17. Dating back to last fall, the Rams are 1-5 straight-up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) in their last 6 games away from home.

The Broncos have won 3 consecutive games. Two were walks in the park that saw Boise State pile up monster yardage margins. Last week’s win — at Air Force — ended up a 19-14 cliffhanger after BSU had jumped out to a 16-0 lead. The Broncos were undone by 9 penalties, but they did hold a strong Falcon run game to just 3.5 yards per carry.

Colorado State at Boise State picks and predictions

Prediction

Boise State 31, Colorado State 7

Moneyline

PASS. Lots of places for true odds to hide in this wide canyon between prices.

Against the spread

We have an offense that analytically may be worse than what shows on the surface with the points-per-game average ranking 130th in the nation against a suffocating Boise defense that has been good against the run and the pass.

When these programs met last Oct. 30, the Broncos were favored by 1.5. They won 28-19, but Colorado State was up 13-0 early.

BSU has averaged 38.3 rushing attempts per game and 26.6 passing attempts. The Broncos have been content to get to leads and stifle opponents to the finish line, eating clock with the running game.

With that style of play, COLORADO STATE +27.5 (-120) is worth a partial-unit play. This is some action based on the numbers and trends of the game more so that an analysis that the Rams are underrated.

Over/Under

Colorado State has played in 7 straight Unders. The Under is 6-1 in Boise State’s last 7 games against teams with a losing record.

TAKE THE UNDER 42.5 (-107).

Utah State at Boise State odds, picks and prediction

Utah State at Boise State: Three things to know

  1. The Aggies of Utah State finally get their season underway. They closed out the 2019 regular season with three wins in the final four outings before a 51-41 loss to Kent State in the Frisco Bowl.
  2. USU lost a lot of talent from that team, including QB Jordan Love, top rusher RB Gerold Bright, top receiver WR Siaosi Mariner and LB David Woodward. QB Jason Shelley takes over, as last season’s backup Henry Colombi transferred to Texas Tech.
  3. Shocker. Boise State is picked to win the Mountain West and contend for a New Year’s Six spot. They just continue to reload. QB Hank Bachmeier is just a sophomore and a budding star. RB George Holani is also a second-year player. WR Khalil Shakir is the top receiving threat for Bachmeier, and this triumvirate will be one of the most powerful groups in the nation.

Utah State at Boise State: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Boise State 38, Utah State 17

Money line (ML)

Boise State (-770) will cost you nearly eight times your potential return. The MWC powerhouse is an overwhelming favorite here. The Broncos return their top passer, rusher and receiver, while the Aggies (+525) must replace all of their studs. Plus, the Aggies have a horrid defensive line, and the jury is still out if it will be improved. The Aggies are usually a thorn in opponents’ side, but this season is going to be a rough one.

Against the spread (ATS)

BOISE STATE -16 (-115) is a strong play, and it should fire out of the box on the Smurf Turf. Isn’t it great to see the blue turf again, by the way? The Broncos are 5-1 ATS in the past six as home favorites, and they’re 9-4-2 ATS in their past 15 conference tilts. More importantly, they’re 10-3-2 ATS in the past 15 meetings vs. the Aggies.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 53.5 (-110) should inch across the finish line in the fourth quarter with most of the points likely in Boise’s column. The Over is 7-2-1 in the past 10 meetings in this series, and there’s no reason to believe we’ll see a change in that trend here.
