Best and worst PFF grades for the Seahawks from Week 11

Here are PFF’s top and bottom five grades for Seattle on both sides of the ball this week.

The Seahawks lost a heartbreaker to the Rams on Sunday, shooting themselves in the foot several times before they went down by a score of 17-16. Hard as it is to see right now, they did still get several encouraging signs from their young roster.

For one thing, rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon continues to make an enormous impact for such a young player at his position. He earned the highest Pro Football Focus grade for the Seahawks defense this week. On the other side of the ball, the team’s previous top-10 draft pick didn’t do too bad either, as left tackle Charles Cross got their highest grade on offense.

Here are PFF’s top and bottom five grades for Seattle on both sides of the ball this week.

Bobby Wagner: Running style of Zach Charbonnet a tone-setter for Seahawks

Bobby Wagner: Running style of Zach Charbonnet a tone-setter for Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have been well-known to have one of the more talented wide receiving corps in the league, but they have quietly developed one of the better backfields as well. Leading the way is second year pro, Kenneth Walker III, who was taken in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft.

But during the 2023 NFL draft, the Seahawks did a very Seahawks-y move by drafting another running back in the second round – Zach Charbonnet from UCLA. While some fans may have scratched their heads about why Seattle would pick Charbonnet, the Seahawks’ vision is coming to fruition. Charbonnet has helped develop a remarkable 1-2 punch for Seattle’s offense. Paired with Walker, these two make defenses pay in different ways.

One player who is certainly noticing is linebacker Bobby Wagner. Wagner spoke about Charbonnet and his tone-setting ways via Gregg Bell at the Tacoma News Tribune:

“I always respect and appreciate running backs that don’t go out of bounds… Like, they would rather hit the person instead of going out of bounds or they finish their runs. As a rookie, that’s always been impressive, the way that he seeks contact, likes to run through people. And it’s a tone-setter, for sure.”

Charbonnet is slowly getting more integrated into Seattle’s offensive attack. Last week against the Commanders, Charbonnet had 44 yards on six carries. Two weeks before that against Cleveland, he had 53 yards on five carries.

Utilizing Charbonnet to spell Walker, and give defenses a new look is proving to be crucial for the Seahawks’ offensive success.

The Seattle Seahawks are gearing up for their first divisional rematch of the season with the Los Angeles Rams. It is a crucial matchup before their Thursday Night Football showdown, and it very likely will be one where franchise history is set.

It does not take a football expert to know linebacker Bobby Wagner and wide receiver Tyler Lockett are special players. Predictably, both are in the middle of another strong season. But Sunday will have the chance for them to set impressive benchmarks.

Wagner is a surefire lock to be a first ballot Hall of Famer when he finally decides to call it a career. While Lockett may not be guaranteed a spot in Canton one day, he’s certainly made a name for himself as one of the greatest Seattle Seahawks of all time. He is currently tied for 6th in the NFL with the most total tackles

Earlier this summer, I took a look at the “Mt. Rushmore’s” of each position group for the Seahawks. Naturally, Lockett is on the list behind only the legendary Steve Largent.

Suffice it to say, there will be time spent on the broadcast on Sunday to highlight the important accomplishments both players have achieved.

Bobby Wagner leads Seahawks in snap counts going into Week 11

Here are the full snap counts for every player who’s played at least one snap on offense or defense.

The Seattle Seahawks have a lot of young talent on their roster, which inspires hope for the future of this franchise no matter how the rest of this season goes. However, there are a couple of very important veterans without whom this team would look a whole lot more lost, no matter what the standings say.

Geno Smith, Quandre Diggs and Tyler Lockett are all part of that group. However, the guy at top of the list is linebacker Bobby Wagner, who continues to perform at the highest level even at 33 years old. Wagner is not only the team’s best defensive player and highest graded player overall, he’s put in more time on the field than anyone else on the team this year.

Here are the full snap counts for every player who’s played at least one snap on offense or defense. *With LB/FB Nick Bellore we have counted both.

Bruce Irvin announces that he has signed with the Detroit Lions

The latest stop for Bruce is Detroit.

The top of the Seahawks 2012 draft class is still going strong 11 years later. Russell Wilson has rebounded from his rough 2022 campaign and looks to be himself again with the Broncos. Meanwhile, Bobby Wagner has kept on playing middle linebacker at an elite level and Bruce Irvin continues to find work and contribute meaningfully every year.

The latest stop for Bruce is Detroit. Yesterday on Instagram Irvin announced that he has signed with the Lions.

Irvin is up to 138 regular season games played in his career between the Seahawks, the Raiders, the Falcons, the Panthers, the Seahawks again, the Bears, the Seahawks yet again and now the Lions. All together he has totaled 55.5 sacks and 129 quarterback hits.

At this point in his career Irvin is mostly a situational pass rusher, but last season he proved he can still be effective in that role. Irvin posted 28 pressures in just 11 games with Seattle in 2022.

Aaron Donald, 4 former Rams named to Senior Bowl’s 75th Anniversary Team

Aaron Donald, Torry Holt and three other former Rams were named to the Senior Bowl’s 75th Anniversary Team

The Senior Bowl has been one of the most valuable and important aspects of the pre-draft process for years, highlighting some of the best prospects in the country and propelling them up draft boards. The Rams have heavily utilized the Senior Bowl to evaluate players before the draft, landing standout prospects such as Aaron Donald, Cooper Kupp, John Johnson and Greg Gaines after watching them in Mobile.

On Tuesday, the Senior Bowl announced its 75th Anniversary Team and five former Rams were selected – headlined by Donald. The Rams’ all-world pass rusher was selected at defensive tackle, along with Bryant Young and Geno Atkins.

Torry Holt was also selected at wide receiver, alongside Terrell Owens, Reggie Wayne and Hines Ward. At outside linebacker, Von Miller – who won a Super Bowl in his half-season with the Rams – was honored. At inside linebacker, it was Bobby Wagner receiving recognition next to Derrick Brooks, Brian Urlacher and Patrick Willis. And finally, Aeneas Williams was one of three cornerbacks selected; Richard Sherman and Patrick Surtain Sr. were the other two.

The 75th Anniversary Team was selected by a public online fan vote, a poll of all 32 NFL general managers and the Senior Bowl’s selection committee, so talent evaluators from the NFL had a hand in picking these players.

Donald, Holt and Williams were all selected as All-Pros during their time with the Rams, while Miller and Wagner are each All-Pros, as well. They were just selected as members of other teams, not the Rams.

Best and worst PFF grades for the Seahawks from Week 10

Here are this week’s best and worst performers for the Seahawks per PFF’s player grades.

On Sunday the Seahawks got clutch performances from Geno Smith, Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf when they needed it most. They also got strong games from Bobby Wagner, Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen, to name a few on defense. However, the game would have been lost without a superb outing from kicker Jason Myers. Let’s see how they graded out.

Studs and Duds from Seattle’s 29-26 victory

Studs and Duds from Seattle’s 29-26 victory

Good morning, 12’s. Be sure to pour yourself an extra cup of coffee today, as I’m sure everyone stayed up late from last night’s thrilling Seahawks victory over the Washington Commanders to the tune of 29-26.

The defensive battle quickly turned into a quasi-shootout in the 4th quarter, as both teams exchanged touchdown drives. Fortunately, Geno Smith and the Seahawks offense were the last ones to have the ball, as they drove down the field in 0:50 seconds to set up the game-winning field goal.

The Seattle Seahawks remain tied with the San Francisco 49ers at identical 6-3 records, atop the NFC West. From Sunday, here are the top Studs and Duds:

12 outstanding individual PFF grades for the Seahawks this week

Here are 12 of the top individual grades in different parts of the game for Seattle this week from PFF.

The Seahawks pulled off a too-close-for-comfort win over the Commanders on Sunday. Tips of the hat must go to Bobby Wagner, who once again posted the highest individual grade on the team for his run defense. Devon Witherspoon also showed up again with a high grade in run D, and Riq Woolen earned the top grade on the team in coverage. Offensively, Ken Walker led the way thanks to his 65-yard catch and run touchdown.

Here are 12 of the top individual grades in different parts of the game for Seattle this week from PFF.

8 individual honors for the 2023 Seattle Seahawks after 8 games

Here are eight players who have been integral to their success so far this season and deserve some individual recognition.

The Seattle Seahawks hold a 5-3 record going into Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders. That puts them roughly on pace for the 11-6 finish that we predicted before the regular season began. However, Seattle is a couple weeks away from entering the most-brutal part of the schedule – a four-game stretch that includes two games against the San Francisco 49ers, one against the Dallas Cowboys and another against the Philadelphia Eagles. All three teams are currently in the top 10 in our power rankings.

Before they face that murderer’s row of opponents, the Seahawks will have to get past two familiar conference foes: first Washington, followed by the Los Angeles Rams, who embarrassed them in the second half of the season opener to the tune of a 30-13 loss. In other words, they can’t afford to look past their next two games and have to stay focused on the task at hand.

Doing so will require leadership and continued strong efforts from a few key players around the roster. Here are eight players who have been integral to their success so far this season and deserve some individual recognition.
