Former Notre Dame linebacker announces retirement from football

The former Irish linebacker is hanging up his cleats

Former Notre Dame linebacker [autotag]Bo Bauer[/autotag] had a great career with the Irish, playing in every season he was on the team, starting two years.

He was the consummate team player, stepping aside during his graduate season and playing special teams. Bauer went undrafted last year, but worked hard enough to earn a three-year contact with the Washington Commanders.

He was recently released after suffering a lower-body injury during a practice. According to this report, the two parties reached an injury settlement. On Monday, Bauer announced his retirement from football on his Instagram page, citing a second knee injury that ended his season.

It’s unfortunate he will not be able to play on Sundays, but we know that whatever is next for Bauer, he’ll surely excel.

Former Notre Dame Linebacker Signs With Washington Commanders

Way to go, Bo!

Former Notre Dame linebacker [autotag]Bo Bauer[/autotag] has signed a free agent contract with the Washington Commanders.

Bauer last played for Notre Dame in 2022 before suffering a knee injury in October of that year.  He received a camp invitation from the Seattle Seahawks last season but didn’t make the team.

Bauer participated in Notre Dame’s pro day again this Spring, having worked much of the last year to develop long snapping skills.

“I want this more than ever,” Bauer said at this most recent pro day. “I’ve had a whole year just working with little results up to this point. We always say standards over circumstances. I have a high standard and I hold on to that to this day. I’ll do whatever it takes to put my best foot forward.”

Bauer recorded 120 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss, 2.5 sacks, and two interceptions while at Notre Dame.

Notre Dame nearly injury free as they’re set to face Stanford

Great news

The Irish have had some injuries this season, most recently losing linebacker [autotag]Bo Bauer[/autotag] for the remainder of the season. Even though they are not fully healthy, there was just one player on the depth chart that is considered questionable for this evenings contest against Stanford.

As Notre Dame’s official football press release team tweeted out just a few minutes ago, just cornerback [autotag]Tariq Bracy[/autotag] is the only player with a game-time decision designation against the Cardinal. It is great news that there weren’t any more injuries new injuries spring up since Bauer’s was announced and hopefully that stays the same after the game as well.

Even if Bracy is held out, the Irish have some solid depth in the secondary to replace his absence.

Notre Dame football: Bo Bauer through the years

A look back at Bo Bauer’s career at Notre Dame

Notre Dame football suffered some tough news this week when graduate linebacker [autotag]Bo Bauer[/autotag] suffered a knee injury and was lost for the year.  Marcus Freeman broke the news to the media on Thursday as Bauer has now played his final game in a Notre Dame uniform.

Bauer played in all 13 games as a freshman back in 2018, totaling 10 tackles during Notre Dame’s 12-0 regular season that saw the team earn their first College Football Playoff appearance in program history.

Bauer again played in every game as a sophomore and recorded 28 tackles, two of which were for a loss, and blocked a punt at Michigan.  Bauer was a regular on the Irish defense again as a junior, playing in all 12 games, recording 26 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and his first career interception and sack in a season Notre Dame made their second College Football Playoff appearance.

His senior year was another solid season that saw him record the sixth most tackles on the team (47), four of which were for a loss and 1.5 sacks.  He also made his first career start in a blowout victory at Virginia and recorded his second career interception, one he returned 79-yards to turn the tide in a win over USC.

Because of the COVID rule put in place by the NCAA in 2020, Bauer took advantage of an extra year of eligibility and returned to Notre Dame as a graduate student this season, highlighted by a career-high four tackles at Ohio State in the opener.

All the best to Bo during the rest of his time at Notre Dame and his future endeavors.

Notre Dame loses captain for remainder of year

Not the news Notre Dame fans were hoping for on Thursday

Notre Dame’s defense will be playing a man down the rest of the season after Bo Bauer suffered a knee injury at practice Tuesday.

Marcus Freeman met the media for his regular Thursday availability and shared the unfortunate news.

“Sustained a knee injury in practice on Tuesday, which is devastating just because he’s a captain and he provides so much more than just production.”

When asked about how the injury impacts Notre Dame for the rest of 2022, Freeman shared that Bauer’s loss isn’t just about him making tackles himself.

“Just the energy, the ability to motivate our players, it’ll be a tremendous loss for us.”

Notre Dame at Stanford: Second-Quarter Analysis

More fun for the Irish.

Notre Dame is treating Stanford like the inferior opponent it is. In fact, the scoreboard is making the game look closer than it should be. The Irish could just go through the motions and probably still have a lead. Whether that’s the case or not, they have a 24-0 lead at halftime.

The Irish began the second quarter by continuing a drive that began in the first. Jack Coan hit Braden Lenzy for a 15-yard completion, then found George Tackas for a 2-yard touchdown. It was Tackas’ first touchdown in two years. Yep, it definitely is that kind of night.

The Cardinal’s first drive of the quarter lasted only two plays because Rylie Mills had a strip-sack of Tanner McKee, and Justin Ademilola recovered the ball after it was bobbled around on the turf a bit. The ensuing drive started at the Cardinal’s 23-yard line, but it was immediately set back by a holding call. The Irish were able to get enough yardage back to allow Jonathan Doerer to come out and kick a 36-yard field goal.

The Cardinal had another in what’s become a series of three-and-outs. Though the Irish took over at their own 25, Coan and the rest of the offense had a perfect mix of run and pass plays to move the ball further frustrate the Cardinal’s defense. Kyren Williams capped the 12-play drive that lasted over five minutes with a 1-yard touchdown run.

The Irish did suffer a setback on the next drive when Bo Bauer was ejected for targeting. Fox color analyst Brock Huard speculated whether watching one of their own be on the receiving end of a targeting might fire the Cardinal up. It looked like that would be the case when McKee threw an apparent touchdown pass to get his team on the board, but the score was nullified by an illegal block that was called at the line of scrimmage. The Cardinal were unable to recover from that, and they ended up punting once again.

The Irish had one final second-quarter possession in which they went three-and-out. The ensuing punt took a bounce into Irish territory, which prompted the Cardinal to attempt a 59-yard field goal with three seconds left. The Irish took a timeout in an attempt to freeze kicker Joshua Karty. We don’t know if that really worked, but while Karty’s kick had the distance, it was wide left, putting the perfect bow on this first half.
