Dressed for success: Billy Horschel’s RLX outfits at the 2024 BMW PGA Championship

Check out Billy Horschel’s Polo Ralph Lauren RLX fits during his victory at the BMW PGA Championship.

Billy Horschel has long been one of the best-dressed golfers in the world, and that’s thanks to his apparel sponsor, Polo Ralph Lauren RLX. Horschel claimed another win at the BMW PGA Championship last week on the DP World Tour (he also won the event in 2021) and looked good doing so.

The Florida Gator’s first-place paycheck was a hefty one: $1.53 million.

Since fans always love to see what Horschel wears during his starts, Golfweek has compiled a list of the shirts and pants he wore throughout the four tournament days at the Wentworth Club.

2024 BMW PGA Championship prize money payouts for every player at Wentworth Club

For his efforts, Horschel will bank $1.53 million out of the $9 million purse.

It was a pair of familiar faces on the PGA Tour battling it out for one of the biggest titles on the DP World Tour on Sunday.

Billy Horschel topped Rory McIlroy on the second playoff hole to win the 2024 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club in Surrey, England. Horschel made eagle on the par-5 18th hole to top McIlroy, whose eagle attempt slid past the right side of the hole.

Horschel birdied the hole in regulation to get into a playoff with McIlroy and Thriston Lawrence, who bowed out after the opening playoff hole, also the par-5 18th. McIlroy had a 25 footer for birdie to win it in regulation, but it missed low.

Billy Horschel beats Rory McIlroy in playoff to win 2024 BMW PGA Championship

2024 has been the year of so close, yet so far for Rory McIlroy.

2024 has been the year of so close, yet so far for Rory McIlroy.

On Sunday, the latest saga involved a playoff against Billy Horschel, a fellow past champion of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club in Surrey, England. But the final sentence was the same.

Horschel topped McIlroy on the second playoff hole to win, making an eagle putt on the par-5 18th. His eagle attempt went right in the center of the cup. McIlroy’s barely missed right.

Horschel had to birdie the 18th in regulation to get into a playoff with McIlroy and Thriston Lawrence, who hit his third shot in the water on the first playoff hole and didn’t make it to the second playoff hole.

McIlroy had a chance to win it in regulation, but his birdie attempt missed low. Both Horschel and McIlroy made birdie on the first playoff hole, but it’s Horschel taking the title and adding another what-if to McIlroy’s 2024 season.

Matteo Manassero leads the 2024 BMW PGA Championship, Rory McIlroy and Billy Horschel tied for second

All three players are past BMW PGA Championship winners.

For years, Matteo Manassero lost his game in a quest for more distance, but he’s back to his old self this week at the BMW PGA Championship. The 2013 champion at the Wentworth Club fired a 9-under 63 on Saturday to build a three-shot lead over Rory McIlroy (2014 BMW PGA winner) and Billy Horschel (2021 BMW PGA winner).

Manassero played his first four holes in 3 under thanks to an eagle on the par-5 fourth. He finished the front nine with five straight pars to make the turn with a 3-under 32.

On the back, the Italian caught fire.

He made birdies on Nos. 11, 12 and 14 before three straight to close a 6-under 31.

The 101st-ranked golfer in the world will have to keep the petal down on Sunday as two of the world’s best hope to chase him down.

Let’s start with McIlroy, who last week lost in devastating fashion at Royal County Down in his home country of Northern Ireland.

McIlroy, like Manassero, eagled the fourth and added a birdie on the par-4 seventh before making the turn. On the back, the world No. 3 made birdie on Nos. 10, 12 and 17 before closing with a beautiful par on the par-5 18th — his second from the fairway found the penalty area short of the green but was able to get up and down thanks to a 10-foot par putt.

The No. 1 player in the Race to Dubai Rankings will begin Sunday’s final round three shots off the pace after a 6-under 66.

Horschel played his first seven holes even par on Day 3, then his putter got hot. The Florida Gator made seven birdies in a row from Nos. 8-14, pouring in 130 feet of putts.

He traded a bogey on 15 for another birdie on 18 for a third-round 7-under 65. Horschel’s lone international win came at this event three years ago.

Matthew Baldwin is alone in fourth at 14 under, four back, while Antoine Rozner and Thirston Lawrence are tied for fifth at 13 under, six back.

Here’s a look at the betting odds heading into the final round.

Billy Horschel makes 130 feet of putts for seven straight birdies at 2024 BMW PGA Championship

The hole looked like a crater for Horschel on Saturday.

Billy Horschel was unconscious with his putter on Saturday at the 2024 BMW PGA Championship, making 130 feet of putts during a stretch of seven straight birdies at the Wentworth Club in England.

After a bogey on the par-4 seventh, Horschel was even par on his day and 8 under for the tournament.

Then his putter caught fire.

Here’s a look at the putts he made from Nos. 8-14:

  • No. 8: 25 feet, four inches
  • No. 9: 16 feet, seven inches
  • No. 10: Two feet, seven inches
  • No. 11: 30 feet, one inch
  • No. 12: 16 feet, six inches
  • No. 13: 31 feet, three inches
  • No. 14: Seven feet, seven inches

His approach on the par-4 15th found a greenside bunker and he could not get up and down, leading to a bogey. The Florida Gator was 14-under total with three holes to play on Saturday.

BMW PGA: Players, fans battle heavy rain during round three

Horschel won the 2021 BMW PGA Championship and will be in position to do so again on Sunday.

Final-round coverage will be available from 7 a.m.-12:30 p.m. ET on Golf Channel.

Check out a dozen photos here.

The BMW PGA Championship is one of the premier events on the DP World Tour, and several premier players are in the hunt at the Wentworth Club in England, despite a battle with heavy rain.

Rory McIlroy, who won the BMW PGA in 2014, was tied for the lead 11 holes into his third round. Billy Horschel, the event’s 2021 champion, made four birdies in a row around the turn Saturday and was one back of the lead with seven holes to play.

As the race for the title continues, the players at Wentworth will battle soggy conditions for the remainder of the third round.

Here are a dozen photos from a rain-soaked Saturday at the BMW PGA Championship.

This video of Robert MacIntyre hitting driver off the deck at the BMW PGA Championship is NSFW

Is this the best driver-off-the-deck video you’ve ever seen?

After winning twice on the PGA Tour this season — at the RBC Canadian Open and Genesis Scottish Open — Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre is back on the DP World Tour, playing in the BMW PGA Championship at the Wentworth Club. On Thursday, MacIntyre hit driver off the deck on the par-5 17th, sending social media into a frenzy.

Yes, the shot was spectacular, but credit to the cameraman for getting this outrageous angle. The low ball flight, the peeling shot shape. It’s just too good.

MacIntyre signed for a 5-under 67 on Day 1, tied with Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry.

Rory McIlroy’s club breaks at BMW PGA Championship, but he still hits to 10 feet

The Rules of Golf would allow him to replace it during the round.

Rory McIlroy once threw his 3-wood in frustration at the 2016 British Open at Royal Troon and broke it, and there was that time at the 2015 WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral when he angrily threw his club in the lake on the eighth hole, but the club damage that happened on Thursday during the DP World Tour’s BMW Championship was not his fault.

Playing his second shot on the par-5 12th hole at the Wentworth Club in Surrey, England, hit an iron shot from the fairway and as the ball rose into the air, the head of his club flew off the end of the shaft and tumbled down the fairway.

As McIlroy looked on in shock and disbelief at seeing the club break, the ball landed on a mound to the right of the hole, kicked left and wound up about 10 feet from the cup.

McIlroy missed the putt for eagle but made birdie on the hole.

He clearly did not break the club in frustration or anger, so the Rules of Golf would allow him to replace it during the round.

Irons are attached to golf shafts using very strong epoxies. During the television broadcast, McIlroy could be heard saying all his irons were “re-glued” at last month’s Tour Championship at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

It’s very possible McIlroy will be able to take the clubhead that flew down the fairway to a builder and have it reattached to a shaft that matches his specifications. Repairing and rebuilding the club could easily be done before the start of McIlroy’s round on Friday.

Tommy Fleetwood’s son, dressed as Spider-Man, meets Tom Holland, Marvel’s Spider-Man, at BMW PGA Championship

Heartwarming moment of the day.

Tommy Fleetwood is among the long list of the game’s biggest stars playing in this week’s 2024 BMW Championship at the Wentworth Club in England. However, it was his son, Frankie, that made a memory that will last a lifetime when he met Tom Holland, Marvel’s Spider-Man.

Holland was on site for Wednesday’s pro-am, which featured a star-studded lineup, and met Frankie, who was dressed up in his Spider-Man costume.

The famous actor bent down to ask Frankie some questions, including how his golf game was going. The DP World Tour’s social media team captured the heartwarming moment.

What’s holding back the PGA Tour-PIF deal? Rory McIlroy says half the players don’t want it

“Everyone’s looking out for themselves and their best interests.”

After another crushing runner-up finish, this time at last week’s Amgen Irish Open at Royal County Down, Rory McIlroy is teeing it up at the BMW PGA Championship at the Wentworth Club in England, one of the biggest events on the DP World Tour schedule. As expected, the Northern Irishman was once again asked about the PGA Tour-PIF deal.

In regards to the holdups on unifying the game, McIlroy said half the players on both tours don’t want it to happen.

“Department of Justice. Maybe different interests from the players’ side. I’d say, it’s pretty similar. I’d say maybe half the players on LIV want the deal to get done, half probably don’t. I’d say it’s probably similar on the PGA Tour,” he said. “Because just like anything, everyone’s looking out for themselves and their best interests. You know, it would benefit some people for a deal not to get done, but it would obviously benefit some people for a deal to get done.

“Yeah, I think there’s different opinions amongst the players about what should happen, and I think when you have a members’ run organization, it complicates things a little bit, especially when some of those players are having to make decisions on the business side of things. So those are the two. I think the tours want it to happen. The investors certainly want it to happen because they can see the benefit for themselves.

“But right now, it’s DOJ and differing opinions of the players.”

Last week, PGA Tour officials flew to New York to meet with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. The two parties are allegedly working on finalizing terms of a deal that would inject more than $1 billion from the PIF into PGA Tour Enterprises, the newly created for-profit entity launched earlier this year.

At last month’s Tour Championship at East Lake, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan had this to say about the ongoing discussions:

“As it relates to any details of the conversations that we’re having with the Public Investment Fund, I’m not going to disclose details. I’m not going to get into specifics.

“I’m not going to negotiate details in public or disclose details or specifics. All I can say is that conversations continue, and they’re productive.

“When you get into productive conversations, that enhances the likelihood of positive outcomes, and that enhances the spirit of those very conversations. I think that’s where things stand.”
