The Blues picked up a 1-0 win over the skidding Chicago Blackhawks Saturday behind Jordan Binnington. St. Louis has won six of its first seven games to start the year, which includes a two-game sweep of the visiting Kings Oct. 23-25.

The Kings were outscored 10-3 in those two games in St. Louis, as neither Cal Petersen nor Jonathan Quick had any answers for the Blues in that set.

Blues at Kings odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Blues 5, Kings 3

Money line

The BLUES (-130) are a solid value behind Binnington, as they just seem to have the Kings’ number. St. Louis outscored Los Angeles 10-3 in the first two meetings, so there is no reason to not keep banging them, even though the venue has changed.

Against the spread

The BLUES -1.5 (+170) are worth a small-unit play on the puck line. The Blues have had a high-octane offense that averages a league-best 4.7 goals per game, including a No. 2 ranked power play. St. Louis is also second on the penalty kill, another big reason for its success.

Five of its six victories have been by 2 or more goals, so if you like St. Louis straight up, you should like them on the puck line.

Over/Under

OVER 5.5 (-110) is the lean here. As mentioned above, St. Louis has the No. 1 scoring offense in the NHL, and L.A. has found its offense lately after a slow start as it’s scored eight goals across the past two games which include an Over result Saturday against Montreal.

  • Money line: Blues -140 (bet $140 to win $100) | Kings +120 (bet $100 to win $120)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Blues -1.5 (+190) | Kings +1.5 (-250)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -105 | U: -115)

Blues at Kings: Projected starting goalies

Jordan Binnington (9-6-4, 2.81 GAA, .906 SV%) vs. Calvin Petersen (4-6-4, 2.64 GAA, .921 SV%)

Binnington goes for the Blues, and he had an unexpected rest period, too. The Kings were unable to return home from Denver for Monday’s game due to a snowstorm, and he was given the night off Saturday against Vegas. So he hasn’t appeared since Friday, and will be rested and raring to go. The last time he faced L.A. at Staples, however, he was on the short end of a 4-3 overtime loss. He also was topped by Petersen in St. Louis in a low-scoring 2-1 game. Overall he is 1-2-1 despite a solid 2.57 GAA and .907 SV% in four starts vs. Los Angeles.

Petersen is 1-1-1 with a 2.34 GAA and .920 SV% against the Blues this season, topping the Notes in that game against Binnington in The Lou. He was tripped up in overtime against Ville Husso at Staples Center March 5 with a regulation loss in St. Louis in late January. Petersen has allowed three or fewer goals in seven of his previous nine appearances overall.

Blues at Kings: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Blues 3, Kings 2

Money line (ML)

The BLUES (-140) are the favorites due to their overall body of work this season, but the Kings (+120) have been a major thorn in their side. St. Louis is just 2-4 against Los Angeles this season with the Kings outscoring the Blues 19-14. Despite their struggles this season, St. Louis has cashed in five of the past seven skates at Staples.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Blues -1.5 (+190) are a tempting play on the puck line, but each of the past three games have been decided by one-goal, and as mentioned above, the Kings +1.5 (-250) have cashed in four of six head-to-head. PASS.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (-115) is the play, as Binnington is rested, Petersen is playing well and these games have been rather low scoring lately. In fact, three of the past four in this series have hit the Under. The Under is also 4-1 in the past five for the Kings as an underdog.
