Tampa Bay Rays at Toronto Blue Jays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Tampa Bay Rays at Toronto Blue Jays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Tampa Bay Rays (23-22) and Toronto Blue Jays (19-23) open a 3-game series at Rogers Centre on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. ET (Apple TV+). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Rays vs. Blue Jays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Tied 2-2

After a slow start, the Rays have picked up the pace with 9 wins in the past 13 outings, including 3 of 4 victories in a series win at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox Monday through Thursday. The Under is 3-1 in the past 4 games, and 6-3 across the past 9 outings.

The Blue Jays were on the short end of a 3-2 score against the Baltimore Orioles, as Toronto ended up splitting a 2-game set, as Tuesday’s game was postponed due to weather. The Under is 3-0 in the past 3 games for the Jays, and 5-1 in the past 6 outings.

Rays at Blue Jays projected starters

LHP Tyler Alexander vs. RHP Chris Bassitt

Alexander (1-2, 5.45 ERA) makes his 6th start and 9th appearance. He has a 1.36 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 7.5 K/9 in 39 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 7 IP, 6 ER, 7 H (3 HR), 2 BB, 3 K in 10-6 home loss vs. New York Yankees last Sunday
  • Last road start: Loss, 4 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 3 K in 8-2 loss vs. Milwaukee Brewers on April 30

Bassitt (3-5, 5.06 ERA) makes his 9th start. He has a 1.55 WHIP, 4.2 BB/9 and 8.4 K/9 in 42 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 6 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 6 K in 5-3 road win vs. Philadelphia Phillies on May 8
  • Last home start: Loss, 6 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 4 K in 6-1 loss vs. Kansas City Royals on May 1
  • 2024 vs. Rays: Loss, 5 IP, 5 R (4 ER), 6 H (1 HR), 2 BB, 6 K in 8-2 road loss on March 29

  • Run line (RL)/Against the spread (ATS): Rays +1.5 (-152) | Blue Jays -1.5 (+126)

Rays at Blue Jays picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Jays 5, Rays 4

Moneyline

The BLUE JAYS (-178) are a little on the expensive side, but worth a look in what should be a close game.

Bassitt will look to hound the Rays (+150), who turn to the southpaw Alexander to get the job done.

Toronto has alternated loss and wins across the past 7 losses, including a 3-2 loss at Baltimore last time out on Wednesday.

Run line/Against the spread

If you’re a little more on the conservative side, the RAYS +1.5 (-152) are moderately priced if you’d like a little insurance.

Obviously, you cannot play the Blue Jays straight up, and Rays on the run line. This should be a close game, though. I actually like Tampa Bay catching the run and a half more than I like Toronto straight up.

Over/Under

OVER 8.5 (-105) is worth a look in this series opener, but go lightly.

While the Under has been on a 5-1 roll for the Blue Jays lately, the Over is 3-1 in the past 4 encounters against the Rays.

The Over-Under has split at a 5-5-1 mark in the past 11 road outings for the Rays, while the Under is 6-2 in the past 8 home outings for the Blue Jays.

While Bassitt and Alexander have been giving, go lightly on the Over, playing a half-unit at most.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Toronto Blue Jays (1-1) and Tampa Bay Rays (1-1) play the 3rd contest of a 4-game set Saturday at Tropicana Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Tied 1-1

The Blue Jays opened with an 8-2 victory Thursday behind RHP Jose Berrios, while the Rays returned the favor Friday night with an 8-2 win of their own behind RHP Aaron Civale.

This was an evenly matched series last season, with the Rays holding a 4-3 edge at home against the Blue Jays under the roof of Tropicana Field. The Over has cashed in each of the 1st 2 games, and the total has gone high in 13 straight games while cashing in 10 in a row at Tropicana Field.

The favorite cashed in Friday’s game, and that’s a rarity. The underdog has cashed in 6 of the past 8 meetings.

Blue Jays at Rays projected starters

LHP Yusei Kikuchi vs. RHP Zack Littell

Kikuchi (11-6, 3.86 ERA) made 32 starts in 2023. He posted a 1.27 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 9.7 K/9 in 167 2/3 innings.

  • 2023 road splits: 5-3, 3.77 ERA (88 1/3 IP, 37 ER — 13 HR), 21 BB, 94 K in 17 starts
  • Last start vs. Rays: Win, 5 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 4 K in 11-4 home victory Sept. 29, 2023
  • 2023 vs. Tampa Bay: 2-1, 5.40 ERA, 20 IP, 12 ER (4 HR), 5 BB, 25 K in 4 starts

Littell (3-6, 4.10 ERA) made 14 starts and 14 relief appearances in 2023. He posted a 1.18 WHIP, 1.2 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 in 90 innings.

  • 2023 home splits: 1-2, 4.29 ERA (42 IP, 20 ER — 8 HR), 4 BB, 35 K in 6 starts and 6 relief appearances
  • Last start vs. Blue Jays: No-decision, 5 2/3 IP, 2 R (0 ER), 5 H, 1 BB, 6 K in 7-6 home win Sept. 23, 2023
  • 2023 vs. Toronto: 0-0, 7 1/3 IP, 5 ER, 11 H, 3 BB, 7 K in 1 start and 2 relief appearances

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Blue Jays at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Jays 7, Rays 3

Moneyline

The BLUE JAYS (+100) are a decent play as short ‘dogs behind the veteran southpaw Kikuchi.

The underdog has cashed in 6 of the past 8 meetings in this series, but it’s not all about the trends. Littell isn’t likely to go deep into the night, and the bullpen has been a little shaky to start the season.

Run line/Against the spread

The Blue Jays +1.5 (-210) will set you back more than twice your potential return, and that’s quite a bit too expensive. If you like Toronto, just play it straight up instead.

PASS.

Over/Under

OVER 8.5 (-105) is the play, as we have seen the total go high in each game so far with 10 runs in each outing.

In fact, the Over has cashed in 13 consecutive meetings in this series while cashing in 10 in a row at Tropicana Field. Until that trend is smashed, keep rolling with the Over. It’s worked in both games so far this season.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Toronto Blue Jays (1-0) take on the Tampa Bay Rays (0-1) Friday at Tropicana Field at 6:50 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Blue Jays lead 1-0

The Jays took the season opener 8-2 as OF George Springer, 2B Cavin Biggio and 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. each homered. RHP Jose Berrios was dealing with 6 Ks and 2 ER over 6 IP. They’ll look to stay hot at the Trop Friday.

The Rays had their chances as 1B Yandy Diaz went 3-for-4 with a homer and 2 RBI from the leadoff spot. The next 5 hitters combined to go 1-for-17 in the game with 6 Ks. RHP Zach Eflin went 5 2/3 IP and allowed all 3 HRs and 6 ER total. The Rays counter with RHP Aaron Civale Friday, who went 2-3 with a 5.36 ERA, 1.37 WHIP in 10 starts after acquiring him at the deadline.

Blue Jays at Rays projected starters

RHP Chris Bassitt vs. RHP Aaron Civale

Bassitt went 16-8 with a 3.60 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 8.4 K/9 over 200 IP last season.

  • Went 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 12 Ks in 13 IP in 2 starts against Tampa last year
  • Was 8-4 with a 4.50 ERA, 1.40 WHIP in 16 road starts last year vs. 8-4 with a 2.86 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 17 home starts

Civale was 7-5 with a 3.46 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 8.5 K/9 in 122 1/3 IP with Cleveland and Tampa last season.

  • Had an abbreviated start in a loss against Toronto Sept. 29 last year, allowing 1 run on 2 H and 2 BB while fanning 3 over 1 1/3 IP
  • Was 0-1 with a 6.94 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 12.7 K/9 in 5 starts at the Trop last year

Blue Jays at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Jays 6, Rays 4

Moneyline

I like the Blue Jays again on Friday. Their bats are eviscerating opposing pitchers right now, and I like Bassitt tenfold over Civale. Six of the 9 Blue Jays in the lineup had hits Thursday, and Civale has allowed 18 of those in 13 1/3 career IP against Toronto.

Take the BLUE JAYS +105.

Run line/Against the spread

There are a couple of wagers I like in this matchup. First, BLUE JAYS -1.5 (+165) is a little on the risky side, but the payout is worth it. The Jays received 3 scoreless innings with 5 Ks from their bullpen Thursday, and it should be in good shape Friday.

On a chalkier note, I also like AARON CIVALE OVER 1.5 EARNED RUNS (-160) as a slam dunk play. He has allowed 9 ER in 13 1/3 career IP (6.08 ERA) against the Jays.

Over/Under

The Over 7.5 cashed Thursday thanks to 8 runs from the Jays. I don’t expect that big of an output Friday, but I still like the OVER 8 (-105).

The Rays’ pen issued 6 walks, and 4 homers combined were hit in Thursday’s game. The pitching matchup isn’t one to write home about either.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays open their seasons with the 1st game of a 4-game set Thursday at Tropicana Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Rays won 7-6 last season

The Blue Jays won 89 games a season ago, and they did very good work on the road, winning 46 of 81. Toronto struggled inside the AL East, however, going just 21-31, which was a major reason it finished 12 games back of the 1st-place Baltimore Orioles.

The Rays rolled up 53 victories in 81 games at home, tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the most home victories in the majors. Tampa Bay posted a 31-21 mark inside the AL East, too, while winning 99 games, just 2 games back of the 1st-place O’s.

The Rays were 4-3 in 7 meetings against the Blue Jays at Tropicana Field. The Over has cashed in 11 consecutive games in the series, including a perfect 7-0 at Tampa Bay last season.

Blue Jays at Rays projected starters

RHP Jose Berrios vs. RHP Zach Eflin

Berrios (11-12, 3.65 ERA) made 32 starts in 2023. He posted a 1.19 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 8.7 K/9 through 189 2/3 innings.

  • 2023 road splits: 5-6, 3.97 ERA (99 2/3 IP, 44 ER — 13 HR), 29 BB, 91 K in 17 starts
  • Last start vs. Rays: Win, 7 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 5 K in 20-1 road victory May 23, 2023
  • 2023 vs. Tampa Bay: 2-0, 1.50 ERA, 12 IP, 2 ER, 2 BB, 11 K in 2 starts
  • Career vs. Rays: 3-4, 4.91 ERA (55 IP, 30 ER) in 10 starts

Eflin (16-8, 3.50 ERA) made 31 starts in 2023. He posted a 1.02 WHIP, 1.2 BB/9 and 9.4 K/9 through 177 2/3 innings.

  • 2023 home splits: 11-4, 3.30 ERA (103 2/3 IP, 38 ER — 11 HR), 14 BB, 120 K in 18 starts
  • 2023 vs. Toronto: Win, 7 IP, 1 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 0 K in 1 start, a 6-3 home victory May 25, 2023
  • Career vs. Blue Jays: 2-2, 5.64 ERA (22 1/3 IP, 14 ER) in 4 starts and 1 relief appearance

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Blue Jays at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 5, Blue Jays 4

Moneyline

The RAYS (-135) are a strong play at home as moderate favorites behind Eflin. He was dominant at the Trop last season, posting 11 of his AL-best-tying 16 wins at home.

Tampa Bay is 3-0 straight up (SU) in the past 3 openers, and it is 3-0 SU in the previous 3 home openers, too. The last time the Rays lost an opener was the COVID-shortened season against the Blue Jays July 24, 2021.

Run line/Against the spread

The Blue Jays +1.5 (-185) will cost you nearly 2 times your potential return if you want a little bit of insurance and you just can’t trust Toronto straight up on the road.

It’s a little too expensive, however, costing you nearly 2 times your potential return.

AVOID, and just bet Toronto straight up if you like it.

Over/Under

OVER 7.5 (-110) is a risky play given the fact Berrios was dominant in a pair of quality starts against the Rays, while Eflin was top notch at home, and he shut down the Blue Jays in his only appearance in 2023.

However, we have seen 11 consecutive Over results in this series and 7 straight at the Trop. We’ve had good pitching matchups on tap in this series before, but the offenses have dominated. Until the Over trend dissipates, keep going high when these teams clash.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Toronto Blue Jays (86-69) and Tampa Bay Rays (95-61) wrap up a 3-game set Sunday at Tropicana Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Rays lead 5-4

The Blue Jays lost 7-6 as +101 underdogs as the Over (8) hit in the 2nd game of the series Saturday. Toronto has lost 2 of 3 but still owns a 1-game lead over the Houston Astros for the 2nd AL Wild Card.

Rays RF Josh Lowe hit a 3-run HR in the 3rd inning and a walk-off single, leading Tampa Bay with 4 RBIs Saturday. The Rays have an 8½-game lead over the Blue Jays for the top AL Wild Card and are 2nd in the AL East, 1½ games behind the division-leading Baltimore Orioles.

Blue Jays at Rays projected starters

LHP Yusei Kikuchi vs. RHP Taj Bradley

Kikuchi (10-6, 3.74 ERA) makes his 31st start. He has a 1.24 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 9.6 K/9 in 158 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Win, 5 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 7 K in 7-1 victory at the New York Yankees Tuesday
  • 2023 road stats: 5-3, 3.63 ERA (84 1/3 IP, 34 ER) in 16 starts
  • 2023 vs. Rays: 1-1, 4.91 ERA (11 IP, 6 ER) in 2 starts — Most recent: Loss, 5 IP, 5 ER, 8 H, 2 BB, 5 K in 7-3 road loss May 24
  • Career vs. Rays: 4-1, 2.83 ERA (35 IP, 11 ER) in 6 starts and 1 relief appearance

Blue Jays at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Jays 5, Rays 4

Moneyline

The BLUE JAYS (-105) should bounce back in the series finale after almost coming back from a 5-run deficit Saturday. Kikuchi has allowed 2 or fewer ER in 3 of his last 4 starts and has had success vs. Tampa Bay in the past.

Bradley was overwhelmed in his only career outing vs. Toronto and has gone 10 straight starts without recording a win.

BET BLUE JAYS (-105).

Run line/Against the spread

Toronto has lost 5 of 9 games vs. the Rays this season and expecting it to win by multiple runs is a tough ask. Tampa Bay +1.5 (-190) will likely hit, but there’s no need to pay the higher price on the run line when Toronto ML is the better play.

PASS. Bet the moneyline and/or the total instead.

Over/Under

The Over is 45-36-4 (60.0%) this season when the Rays are coming off a win, according to TeamRankings.com.

The Over has also hit in 5 of Tampa Bay’s last 7 games and should cash again Sunday with Bradley on the mound for the Rays.

LEAN OVER 8 (-120).

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Toronto Blue Jays (86-68) and the Tampa Bay Rays (94-61) play the 2nd contest of a 3-game series Saturday at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: tied 4-4

The Blue Jays picked up a 6-2 victory Friday in the series opener as a moderate +137 underdog as the Over (7.5) just came in. Toronto has won 6 of the past 7 games to position itself well in the hunt for an AL Wild Card spot. The Jays are a full game clear of the Houston Astros for the 2nd wild-card spot, and 1 1/2 games up on the Seattle Mariners with 8 games remaining.

The Rays have already clinched a berth in the playoffs but they’re still in the hunt for the AL East title. Tampa trails the Baltimore Orioles by 1 1/2 games, although the O’s have a game in hand.

Blue Jays at Rays projected starters

LHP Hyun Jin Ryu vs. RHP Zack Littell

Ryu (3-3, 2.62 ERA) makes his 10th start. He has a 1.12 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 7.1 K/9 in 44 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 4 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 2 K in 3-2 home win vs. Boston Red Sox last Sunday
  • 2023 road splits: 1-1, 1.89 ERA (19 IP, 4 ER), 2 HR, .186 OBA in 4 starts

Littell (3-6, 4.12 ERA) makes his 14th start and 27th appearance. He has a 1.15 WHIP, 1.0 BB/9 and 7.3 K/9 in 83 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 4 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 3 K in 5-4 road loss in 11 innings vs. Baltimore Orioles Sunday
  • 2023 home splits: 1-2, 4.95 ERA (36 1/3 IP, 20 ER), 8 HR, .269 OBA in 5 starts and 6 relief appearances

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Blue Jays at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Jays 5, Rays 4

Moneyline

The BLUE JAYS (+115) are a solid value on the road as they look for the 2nd straight victory in the series. Toronto has been hot, winning 6 of the past 7 games overall. Ryu has tremendous road splits too, allowing just 4 runs in 19 IP this season.

The Rays have struggled recently, winning just twice in the past 6 games overall, including just 2 wins in their last 5 as a favorite.

Run line/Against the spread

The BLUE JAYS +1.5 (-175) aren’t priced out of line if you can’t pick Toronto straight up, and you want a little bit of insurance.

Toronto is 13-3 in the past 16 games on the run line as an underdog and is 3-3 on the run line as a ‘dog against the Ray this season.

Over/Under

The OVER 8 (-110) is the lean, but go lightly.

The Over has cashed in all 5 meetings at the Trop this season. The Over is also 5-2 in the past 7 starts by Ryu, including 2 of the past 3 outings on the road.

The Over has cashed in 3 in a row for the Rays and is 6-0-1 in their past 7 games at Tropicana Field.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Toronto Blue Jays (85-68) open a 3-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays (94-60) on Friday at Tropicana Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Rays lead 4-3

The Blue Jays lost 5-3 to the New York Yankees on Thursday as Toronto produced only 4 hits in its bid to complete the 3-game sweep. Toronto has won 5 of its last 6 games and is currently holding the 2nd Wild Card spot in the AL, 1/2 game ahead of the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners.

The Rays defeated the Los Angeles Angels 5-4 Thursday with 1B Yandy Diaz, 3B Isaac Paredes and OF Manuel Margot all recording multi-hit performances. Tampa Bay is 6-4 in its last 10 games and is 1 1/2 games back of the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East.

Blue Jays at Rays projected starters

RHP Chris Bassitt vs. RHP Tyler Glasnow

Bassitt (14-8, 3.78 ERA) makes his 32nd start. He has a 1.20 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 8.0 K/9 through 185 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 7 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 5 K in a 4-3 home win over the Boston Red Sox Saturday
  • 2023 road stats: 7-4, 4.64 ERA (83 1/3 IP, 43 ER) in 15 starts
  • Career vs. Rays: 0-2, 2.45 ERA (22 IP, 6 ER) in 3 starts and 1 relief appearance

Glasnow (9-6, 3.53 ERA) makes his 20th start. He has a 1.09 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 12.0 K/9 through 109 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 4 IP, 6 ER, 8 H, 2 BB, 4 K in an 8-0 road loss to the Orioles Saturday
  • 2023 home stats: 4-2, 2.81 ERA (51 1/3 IP, 16 ER) in 9 starts
  • Career vs. Blue Jays: 0-3, 6.88 ERA (34 IP, 26 ER) in 8 starts

Blue Jays at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 5, Blue Jays 4

Moneyline

I’ll back the RAYS (-155) in this AL East matchup given they’re playing at home. While Toronto is a solid 44-34 on the road, Tampa Bay is 52-26 at home this season.

Run line/Against the spread

Even though the Blue Jays +1.5 (-165) should keep this game close (or even win outright), I’ll PASS on their run line at the current odds. If you are able to get Toronto’s spread at -160 odds or better, then I’d be more comfortable wagering on the run line.

Over/Under

OVER 7.5 (-110) is the pick in this divisional contest despite Bassitt and Glasnow being on the mound. Bassitt has given up 7 earned runs in his last 2 starts and Glasnow has surrendered 10 earned runs in his last 2 starts.

The Over is also 5-1-1 in the first 7 meetings between these clubs this season.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with expert MLB picks, predictions and best bets.

The Toronto Blue Jays (26-24) wrap up a 4-game divisional series with the Tampa Bay Rays (36-15) Thursday at Tropicana Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET (MLB Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Series tied 3-3

Toronto was back to its losing ways Wednesday, falling 7-3, as it failed to capitalize on a 20-1 victory Tuesday that snapped a 5-game losing skid. The Jays have dropped 8 of the past 10 games overall, while the Over has cashed in each of the previous 5 outings.

The Rays are also on a 5-game Over streak, plating 5.2 runs per game while allowing 37 total runs during the span — although 20 of them came in Tuesday’s loss, including 10 given up by position players. The Over is 11-2 in the past 13 games overall for Tampa.

Blue Jays at Rays projected starters

RHP Alek Manoah vs. RHP Zach Eflin

Manoah (1-4, 5.15 ERA) makes his 11th start. He has a 1.74 WHIP, 5.9 BB/9 and 7.1 K/9 in 50 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 5 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 5 K in a 6-5 loss vs. the Baltimore Orioles Saturday
  • Road splits: 1-2, 3.33 ERA (27 IP, 10 ER) with a .233 opponent batting average (OBA) in 5 starts

Eflin (6-1, 3.45 ERA) makes his 9th start. He has a 1.00 WHIP, 1.0 BB/9 and 10.0 K/9 in 47 IP innings.

  • Last start: Win, 7 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 8 K in an 8-4 home win vs. the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday

Blue Jays at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 8, Blue Jays 2

Moneyline

The RAYS (-140) are a slam-dunk play, based mostly upon the pitching matchup which tips the scales squarely in the home side’s favor.

Manoah has been horrific this season, although most of his worst performances have come at home. Still, he has been hugely inconsistent and Eflin has been tremendous regardless of the venue.

Run line/Against the spread

The RAYS -1.5 (+145) are a solid play on the run line yet again.

Tampa Bay cashed on the run line Wednesday and Monday against the Blue Jays. However, the Rays are just 3-8 in the past 11 games on the run line as a favorite so the wager certainly comes with some risk.

Tampa Bay is 35-17 in the past 52 home meetings in St. Petersburg while going 3-1 on the run line in the past 4 against Toronto when favored.

Over/Under

The OVER 8.5 (-120) is worth a look in Thursday’s series finale.

The Over has cashed in 5 straight games for the Blue Jays, while also going 5-0 in the past 5 outings for the Rays.

The Over is 6-1 in the past 7 games on the road for Toronto while cashing at a 4-0 clip in the past 4 games against a right-hander, and 9-1 in the past 10 on the road vs. RHP.

For Tampa, the Over is 7-0 in the past 7 games against the AL East, while going 4-0 in the past 4 in Game 4 of a series. The Over is also 8-2 in the past 10 vs. RHP.

Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Toronto Blue Jays (26-23) and Tampa Bay Rays (35-15) play the finale of a 3-game set at Tropicana Field Wednesday. First pitch is at 6:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Rays odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Toronto leads 3-2

The Blue Jays had fun Tuesday, destroying Tampa 20-1 as 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a grand slam and drove in 6 runs. He also struck out against a position player in the 9th to give his teammates a laugh. Four Blue Jays drove in at least 3 runs Tuesday as Toronto snapped a 5-game losing streak.

Tampa has been a .500 ballclub since its historic start to the season. The Rays are 5-5 and 11-9 over the last 10 and 20 games, respectively. They’re great at home and against lefties, too, which they’ll face Wednesday. Tampa is 22-5 at home and 7-2 against southpaws.

LHP Yusei Kikuchi vs. LHP Shane McClanahan

  • Last start: Loss, 4 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 4 BB, 3 K, against the Orioles Friday
  • Last 5 starts vs. Tampa: 4-0, 1.86 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 33 K in 29 IP

McClanahan (7-0, 2.05 ERA) makes his 11th start. He has a 1.19 WHIP, 3.9 BB/9 and 10.7 K/9 in 57 innings.

  • Last start: No-decision, 7 IP, 0 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 7 K, against the Brewers Friday

Blue Jays at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 6, Blue Jays 3

Moneyline

What happens the day after a team puts up a 20 spot? It seems inevitable they used all their bullets that day and only plate a couple the next day. McClanahan figures to help that theory. We’re going to PASS on the ML, though, and look to the spread.

Run line/Against the spread

These teams haven’t played a 1-run game in the last 10 games against each other. Toronto hasn’t done it in 9 overall. The Rays are tops in baseball with 1.96 homers/game, and Kikuchi has gone fewer than 5 IP with at least 3 ER in 3 of his last 4 starts.

Take the RAYS -1.5 (+110).

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

Each team has cashed 4 Overs in a row. The Over is 4-1-1 in the last 6 between the teams and 5-1 in the last 6 in Tampa. It’s just a lean because Toronto is pegged for some regression after its 20-run explosion, but LEAN OVER 8.5 (-105).

Blue Jays at Rays picks and predictions

Prediction

Rays 6, Blue Jays 4

Moneyline

The RAYS (-135) are worth a look, as they look to keep the Blue Jays down.

The Jays have dropped 5 in a row, and they’re 0-4 in the past 4 games against a right-handed starting pitcher. Toronto is 3-13 in the past 16 outings against AL East clubs, too.

The Rays have picked up 40 wins in their past 52 outings at Tropicana Field, which is a .769 winning percentage. Tampa has also won 4 of the past 5 against teams with a winning record.

Run line/Against the spread

The RAYS -1.5 (+145) are worth playing lightly on the run line. In 3 of Tampa Bay’s last 4 wins, the Rays have won by 2 or more runs.

Not only have the Blue Jays dropped 5 in a row, and 7 of the past 8 outings, Toronto has lost all but one of them by 2 or more runs.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The OVER 8.5 (-115) is the lean in Game 2 of this series.

The Over has cashed in 3 in a row for the Rays and has cashed in 9 of the past 11 games overall. The Over is 5-0 in their past 5 games inside the AL East and has cashed at a 7-1 clip in the past 8 games against winning teams. The Over is 7-2 in their past 9 vs. RHP, too.

The Over has hit in 8 of the past 10 road games for the Blue Jays and has gone 6-2 in their past 8 vs. RHP. The Over is 9-3 in the past 12 vs. AL East teams, too.
