Blue Jays at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Angels 6, Blue Jays 5

Moneyline

BET ANGELS (-125).

Los Angeles’ momentum after coming back from a 4-run deficit should carry over into Sunday’s meeting. Kikuchi has struggled in his career vs. the Angels and Detmers looked great against Toronto last season.

Los Angeles is 6-0 in its last 6 home games vs. left-handed starters and should be able to score runs early on Kikuchi once again.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

It’s unlikely that the Angels blow out the Blue Jays in back-to-back games. Toronto +1.5 (-185) should hit, but there is no need to pay the higher price on the run line when the Los Angeles moneyline is the better play. Bet Los Angeles moneyline and/or the total instead.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

BET OVER 9.5 (-115).

The Over is 4-1 in Toronto’s last 5 games after a loss and 6-2 in its last 8 vs. left-handed starters.

The Over has hit in 6 of the last 8 meetings between these teams in Los Angeles and should cash again Sunday with the inconsistent Kikuchi on the mound for Toronto.

Blue Jays at Angels projected starters

RHP José Berríos vs. LHP Tyler Anderson

Berríos (0-1, 12.71 ERA) makes his 2nd start. He allowed 8 ER on 9 H and 2 BB with 7 K in 5 2/3 IP in his debut at the Kansas City Royals Monday.

  • Went 12-7 with a 5.23 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 7.8 K/9 in 172 IP across 32 starts in 2022.

Blue Jays at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Angels 6, Blue Jays 5

Moneyline

BET ANGELS (-120).

Berríos has struggled in his career vs. the Angels, who should bounce back after a tough loss last time out. The Angels are 6-1 in their last 7 home games and shouldn’t drop back-to-back games at Angel Stadium vs. the Blue Jays. Toronto is just 3-8 in its last 11 road games vs. left-handed starters and should come back down to Earth after an impressive win Friday.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

Toronto +1.5 (-190) should hit, but there is no need to pay the higher price on the run line when the Angels moneyline is the safer play. Bet Angels moneyline and/or the total instead.

Over/Under

BET OVER 9 (-120).

The Over is 5-2 in Toronto’s last 7 games vs. left-handed starters and 5-2 in Los Angeles’ last 7 vs. right-handed pitching.

The Over has hit in 12 of the last 17 meetings between these teams and should hit again Saturday as Berríos continues to struggle with control.

Blue Jays at Angels projected starters

RHP Chris Bassitt vs. LHP Patrick Sandoval

Bassitt (0-1, 24.30 ERA) makes his 2nd start. He allowed 9 ER on 10 H and 0 BB with 0 K in 3 1/3 IP in his debut at the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday.

  • Went 15-9 with a 3.42 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 8.3 K/9 in 181 2/3 IP across 30 starts for the New York Mets in 2022.
  • Career vs. the Angels: 6-3 with a 3.43 ERA (60 1/3 IP, 23 ER) in 10 starts and 2 relief appearances.

Sandoval (1-0, 1.80 ERA) makes his 2nd start. He allowed just 1 ER in his debut with 2 H, 2 BB and 2 K in 5 IP at the Oakland Athletics Saturday.

  • Posted a 6-9 record with a 2.91 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9 and 9.1 K/9 in 148 2/3 IP across 27 starts in 2022.
  • Only career start vs. Toronto: allowed 5 ER on 5 H and 3 BB with 4 K in 3 IP in a no-decision May 29, 2022.

Blue Jays at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Jays 6, Angels 5

Moneyline

BET BLUE JAYS (+105).

Toronto has been dominant in 3 straight wins and Bassitt is a candidate to bounce back after a horrible debut Sunday. Sandoval should struggle once again vs. this Blue Jays team that is tied with the Chicago White Sox for the 2nd-most hits per game this season (10.57). Toronto is 11-3 in its last 14 series openers and should have no problem scoring runs against Sandoval early.

Run line/Against the spread

PASS.

Toronto +1.5 (-190) should hit, but there is no need to pay the higher price on the run line when the Blue Jays should win straight up. Bet the moneyline and/or total instead.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

BET OVER 9 (-120).

The Over is 5-1 in Toronto’s last 6 games vs. left-handed starters and 5-1 in Los Angeles’ last 6 vs. right-handed pitching. These teams have played high-scoring games vs. each other lately, with the Over hitting in 4 of the last 5 meetings, and Friday’s matchup should be another offensive showcase.

Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Toronto Blue Jays (26-20) look to complete a 4-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels (27-21) at Angel Stadium Sunday. First pitch for the series finale is set for 4:07 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Angels odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Toronto leads 3-0 with a plus-5 run differential

The Blue Jays won 6-5 Saturday thanks to a 3-run top of the 8th-inning rally featuring a 2-run RBI double by Toronto 3B Matt Chapman.

Blue Jays at Angels projected starters

RHP Jose Berrios vs. LHP Patrick Sandoval

Berrios is 3-2 with a 4.75 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 6.7 K/9 in 47 1/3 IP over 9 starts.

  • Last start: No-decision in Toronto’s 7-3 loss at St. Louis Cardinals Monday with 6 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 1 HR, 0 BB and 7 K.
  • 2021 vs. the Angels: 1-2 with a 4.96 ERA (16 1/3 IP, 9 ER), 14 H, 1 HR, 5 BB and 14 K.

Sandoval is 3-1 with a 1.79 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9 and 8.5 K/9 in 40 1/3 IP across 7 starts.

  • Last start: 4-1 home win vs. Oakland Athletics May 22 with 7 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 0 HR1 BB and 7 K.
  • 2022 home splits: 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA (24 IP, 4 ER), 1.00 WHIP and 3.4 K/BB rate over 4 starts.

Blue Jays at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Angels 7, Blue Jays 2

Money line

BET ANGELS (-135) since they’ve been steamed up by sharp action, L.A. has edges in the starting pitching matchup and a better lineup and Toronto is just 3-5 vs. left-handed starters.

The Angels opened as -120 favorites but heavy, early action has moved their price up to the current number. Also, Berrios’ advanced pitching stats, both on the year and vs. the Angels, are dreadful.

Berrios ranks in the 13th percentile or worse in expected-batting average (xBA), wOBA (xwOBA) and slugging percentage (xSLG) slash rate, exit velocity (EV), hard-hit rate and barrel and whiff rates, per Statcast.

Against active Angels hitters, Berrios has a .336/.428/.601 xBA-xwOBA-xSLG slash rate with a 95.3 mph EV in 50 plate appearances.

The Angels lineup ranks 2nd in wRC+ (115) and 4th in both wOBA (.326) and WAR (8.8), according to FanGraphs. Toronto’s lineup has a 97 wRC+ (ranked 17th), .305 wOBA (19th) and 5.0 WAR (18th).

BET ANGELS (-135).

Run line/Against the spread

SPRINKLE on the ANGELS -1.5 (+155), if at all, because of their aforementioned edges in this matchup, Berrios has a 6.26 ERA in his last 5 starts vs. the Angels and 4 of L.A.’s 6 wins in Sandoval starts have been by at least 2 runs.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 8.5 (-102).

Toronto is 6-3 O/U in Berrios’ 9 starts and 6-0 O/U in their last 6 games as a road underdog. Plus, the Over has cashed in 4 of the last 5 head-to-head meetings.

However, I’m more confident in the Angels’ ML and Sandoval has been dealing thus far. The Angels are 1-5-1 O/U in Sandoval’s 7 starts and 10-15-2 O/U at home.

Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Los Angeles Angels (27-20) host the Toronto Blue Jays (25-20) for Game 3 of their 4-game series Saturday at Angel Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 10:07 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Angels odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Toronto leads 2-0 and the Blue Jays have a plus-4 run differential.

Toronto won the series opener 6-3 Friday with Blue Jays SP Hyun Jin Ryu outpitching Angels SP Shohei Ohtani. The Blue Jays beat the Angels 4-3 Friday thanks to a go-ahead Toronto C Alejandro Kirk run on an error off of LF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. single in the top of the 9th inning.

Blue Jays at Angels projected starters

LHP Yusei Kikuchi vs. RHP Michael Lorenzen

Kikuchi is 2-1 with a 3.47 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 5.7 BB/9 and 9.9 K/9 in 36 1/3 IP over 8 starts.

  • Last start: No-decision in Toronto’s 3-2 home loss to the Cincinnati Reds with 4 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, 3 BB and 7 K.
  • 2021 vs. the Angels: 0-1 with a 10.00 ERA (9 IP, 10 ER), 15 H, 4 HR, 1 BB and 15 K in 2 starts.

Lorenzen is 5-2 with a 3.05 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 6.3 K/9 in 41 1/3 IP across 7 starts.

  • Last start: Win, 5-3, Saturday at home vs. the Oakland Athletics with 6-scoreless IP, 3 H, 2 BB and 5 K.
  • 2022 home splits: 3-1 with a 2.38 ERA (22 2/3 IP, 6 ER), 13 H, 3 HR, 8 BB and 22 K in 4 starts.

Blue Jays at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Angels 6, Blue Jays 4

Money line

GIMME the ANGELS (-112) because they have an edge over the Blue Jays (-108) in hitting and relief pitching.

L.A.’s lineup is 8th in wRC+ (112) and 12th in wOBA (.319) vs. left-handed pitching (per FanGraphs). While Toronto’s lineup has a 97 wRC+ (ranked 17th), .304 wOBA (19th) and 0.32 BB/K rate (24th) against righties.

Also, L.A.’s bullpen is 10th in xFIP (3.75) with better swing-and-miss rates than Toronto’s bullpen who’s 15th in xFIP (3.86).

BET 1 unit on the ANGELS (-112).

Run line/Against the spread

SPRINKLE on the ANGELS -1.5 (+180) ALTERNATE RL since their last 10 meetings with the Blue Jays have been decided by at least 2 runs and L.A. has a slightly better starter Saturday.

Lorenzen and Kikuchi’s advanced pitching numbers aren’t far apart, but Lorenzen is 3-1 SU at home with a 2.38 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 2.8 K/BB rate.

The ANGELS -1.5 (+175) is juicy based on all their aforementioned edges in this matchup.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 8.5 (-107) only because I prefer L.A.’s ML and a vast majority of the market is betting the Over but the total hasn’t budged, which is suspicious.

But, Blue Jays-Angels have gone Over the total in 8 of their last 11 meetings, L.A. is 5-2 O/U in Lorenzen’s 7 starts and Toronto is 9-1-1 O/U in the last 14 road games against a righty starter.

Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Toronto Blue Jays (24-20) meet the Los Angeles Angels (27-19) Friday in the 2nd of their 4-game series at Angel Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 9:38 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Angels odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Toronto leads 1-0.

The Blue Jays won the series opener 6-3 Thursday in a Japanese starting pitching duel with Toronto SP Hyun Jin Ryu allowing just 2 ER while L.A. SP Shohei Ohtani surrended 5 ER.

Blue Jays at Angels projected starters

RHP Alek Manoah vs. RHP Chase Silseth

Manoah is 5-1 with a 1.62 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, 1.6 BB/9 and 7.7 K/9 in 50 IP across 8 starts.

  • Last start: Won 3-1 Saturday at home vs. the Cincinnati Reds with 8 IP, 1 ER, 7 H, 0 BB and 4 K.
  • 2021 vs. the Angels: One start, a 10-2 win in L.A. Aug. 11 with 6 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 1 HR, 2 BB and 11 K.

Silseth is 1-1 with a 2.61 ERA (10 1/3 IP, 3 ER), 7 H, 2 HR, 4 BB and 10 K in 2 starts.

  • Last start: Lost 4-2 May 20 at home vs. the Oakland Athletics with 4 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 2 HR, 2 BB and 6 K.

Blue Jays at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Blue Jays 6, Angels 2

Money line

LEAN BLUE JAYS (-120) because this line is suspiciously low since Manoah has Cy Young-caliber stuff and Silseth is only making his 3rd career start.

Also, there’s a line freeze in the betting market with three-fourths of the cash being on Toronto (per Pregame.com), but this line hasn’t budged off the opener.

Manoah grades in the 86th percentile or better in hard-hit rate (92%), barrel rate (92%), BB% (87%), expected slugging percentage (88%), expected ERA (86%) and expected wOBA (86%), according to Statcast. All 4 of Manoah’s pitches have a minus-run value.

However, between the line freeze and L.A.’s edges in hitting and relief pitching, I wouldn’t bet more than a half-unit on the BLUE JAYS (-120).

Run line/Against the spread

PASS because the Angels +1.5 (-170) have a more productive lineup and bullpen and the Blue Jays -1.5 (+135) are just 10-21 RL as favorites.

Over/Under

PASS because I don’t have enough confidence in L.A.’s starter to go with the Under 7.5 (+100) and the Over 7.5 (-125) appears to be the sharp side since it’s more expensive.

That said, these teams have a combined 1-9 O/U record when these starters are on the mound, the Blue Jays are 11-19-1 O/U as favorites, and the Angels are 9-14-2 O/U at home.

Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Toronto Blue Jays (23-20) head out west Friday to start a 4-game series with the Los Angeles Angels (27-18) at Angel Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 9:38 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Blue Jays vs. Angels odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Toronto split a 2-game series at the St. Louis Cardinals Monday-Tuesday after winning 2 consecutive series. The Blue Jays are 6-4 straight up (SU) in their last 10 games.

L.A. had a 3-game winning streak snapped in Wednesday’s 7-2 loss to the Texas Rangers and the Angels are just 5-5 SU in the last 10.

The Angels beat the Blue Jays 4-3 in last year’s season series, but Toronto outscored L.A. 41-29 in those meetings.

Blue Jays at Angels projected starters

LHP Hyun Jin Ryu vs. RHP Shohei Ohtani

Ryu is 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA (18 IP, 12 ER), 21 H, 3 HR, 3 BB and 11 K across 4 starts.

  • Last start: Won 2-1 Friday at home vs. the Cincinnati Reds with 6 scoreless IP, 6 H, 0 BB and 3 K.

Ohtani is 3-2 with a 2.82 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 12.4 K/9 in 38 1/3 IP over 7 starts.

  • Last start: No-decision in L.A.’s 6-5 loss at the Rangers May 18 with 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 2 BB and 7 K.

Blue Jays at Angels picks and predictions

Prediction

Angels 7, Blue Jays 3

Money line

RISK 1 unit on the ANGELS (-170) instead of betting 1 unit because L.A.’s ML is pricey and we are getting to the party a little late. Sharp action has pushed the Angels from a -135 opening favorite up to the current number (per Pregame.com).

Ohtani’s outstanding pitching peripherals support his amazing basic numbers, Ryu grades in the bottom 10% of the MLB in several advanced pitching categories (per Statcast).

L.A. is 8-4 SU vs. left-handed pitching and ranks highly in several advanced hitting metrics while Toronto’s lineup is mediocre against righties and struggles on the road.

BET the ANGELS (-170), but save a little for L.A.’s RL.

Run line/Against the spread

LEAN to the ANGELS -1.5 (+130) only because I’d hold out for a better price and we have enough money in L.A.’s ML.

The Angels have a 3-phase edge over the Blue Jays +1.5 (-160) in starting and relief pitching and hitting so the Angels will most likely win by more than 1 run.

Over/Under

SPRINKLE on the OVER 7.5 (-110) only because L.A.’s ML is my favorite wager in this game.

However, the Angels should rake Ryu, L.A. is 8-4-1 O/U as home favorites, Toronto is 4-0 O/U in the last 4 games as road underdogs and the Over has cashed in 4 of the last 5 Blue Jays-Angels meetings.

Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Toronto Blue Jays (62-51) and Los Angeles Angels (57-58) close out a four-game series Thursday evening. First pitch at Angel Stadium is scheduled for 9:38 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze the lines around the Blue Jays vs. Angels odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Jose Berrios is the projected starting pitcher for the Blue Jays. He is 8-5 with a 3.23 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 9.4 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 through 133 2/3 IP spanning 22 starts.

  • Making his third start for the Jays after being acquired from the Minnesota Twins at the trade deadline. Has yielded just 1 ER acrss 12 IP through two starts for Toronto.
  • Current Los Angeles batters own an aggregate .457 OPS against him.

RHP Shohei Ohtani is the projected starter for the Angels. He is 6-1 with a 2.93 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 11.1 K/9 and 3.8 BB/9 over 86 IP through 16 starts.

  • Owns a 1.79 ERA through 50 1/3 IP at home.
  • Has issued just 1 BB against 23 K over his last four starts with a 1.38 ERA and 0.69 WHIP over that span.

Prediction

Blue Jays 5, Angels 3

Money line (ML)

The Blue Jays are 12-3 over their last 15 games with a 2.51 team ERA and .833 OPS over that stretch.

The Angels lost Wednesday’s game 10-2 and L.A. is 1-4 with a minus-17 run differential over its last 5 games. The Halos offense has really sputtered through much of the second half with a .621 OPS since July 19. That surging Toronto pitching is facing a Halos offense that has been struggling after being a top-10 unit over much of the first half of the season.

Expected ERA figures view Berrios and Ohtani as being very similar. For just about anyone coming into pitch after those two, peg an advantage to Toronto. With the offense added in, the BLUE JAYS (-140) have some value.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Toronto is a robust 22-10 in games decided by 5-plus runs. Bettors wanting to put the risk in the differential and not the outlay may want to back the BLUE JAYS -1.5 (+115).

Over/Under (O/U)

Tab the series finale with a lean on the UNDER 8.5 (-107).

The pitching matchup is elite and the Statcast quality-of-contact figures for both clubs indicate their current run levels may be stretched out too much. Both have logged some favorable situational numbers held up by high batting averages on balls in play (the Angels in reaching base as leadoff batters, the Jays as batting with runners in scoring position).

Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Angels odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s Toronto Blue Jays at Los Angeles Angels odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Toronto Blue Jays (61-51) and Los Angeles Angels (57-57) meet Wednesday at Angel Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 9:38 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze the lines around the Blue Jays vs. Angels odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Alek Manoah is the projected starting pitcher for the Blue Jays. The 23-year-old rookie is 4-1 with a 2.58 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 10.3 K/9, and 3.3 BB/9 in 52 1/3 IP across 10 starts.

  • Does a good job keeping hard contact under wraps but has also benefited from a .220 batting average on balls in play.
  • Making just his third start since the All-Star break. Has allowed just 2 ER through 12 IP in the second half.

RHP Dylan Bundy is the projected starter for the Angels. He has appeared in 16 games as a starter and four as a reliever. Bundy is 2-8 with a 6.14 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 8.5 K/9, and 3.2 BB/9 in 80 2/3 IP.

  • Has held current Toronto batters to an aggregate .678 OPS.
  • Served as a reliever through most of July, but is making his third straight appearance as a starter. Allowed 3 ER over 10 2/3 IP in his previous two starts.

Prediction

Blue Jays 6, Angels 3

Money line (ML)

The Blue Jays and Angels split a doubleheader Tuesday. The Jays won the nightcap, 4-0, and head into Wednesday with an 11-3 mark over their last 14 games. Toronto owns a 2.55 ERA and .821 OPS over that stretch.

That surging Toronto pitching is facing a Halos offense that has been struggling after being a top-10 unit over much of the first half. The Angels own a mere .628 OPS over their last 22 games.

Manoah has big-time stuff. Strikeout rate-walk rate is a great indicator metric for pitchers, and Manoah owns an elite 19.2% rate over his first 10 MLB starts.

Look for Manoah and the Jays to continue their recent success: BACK THE BLUE JAYS (-200).

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Angels are just 4-7 over their last 11 home games. The Blue Jays win a lot of games by field goals and touchdowns (21-10 in games decided by 5-plus runs). BACK THE BLUE JAYS -1.5 (-122).

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS: too many cross signals to parse.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Toronto Blue Jays Game 1 odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Los Angeles Angels at Toronto Blue Jays Game 1 odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Toronto Blue Jays (60-50) and Los Angeles Angels (56-56) open a four-game series with a doubleheader Tuesdsay at Angel Stadium. The opener is a makeup of an April 11 game at Toronto (the Blue Jays will bat as the home team) and is slated for a 6:07 p.m. ET first pitch. Let’s analyze the lines around the Angels vs. Blue Jays Game 1 odds with MLB picks and predictions.

RHP Chris Rodriguez is the projected starting pitcher for the Angels. Rodriguez has appeared in 14 games but this contest will mark just the second start of the season for the 23-year-old rookie. He is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 9.5 K/9, and 4.6 BB/9 in 25 2/3 IP.

  • Allowed 4 runs (3 ER) through 6 IP in his first start Aug. 2 at Texas.
  • Owns a 4.87 ERA across 20 1/3 innings at Double- and Triple-A this season.

LHP Steven Matz is the projected starter for the Blue Jays. He is 9-6 with a 4.30 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, 9.2 K/9, and 2.4 BB/9 in 96 1/3 IP over 19 starts.

  • Is coming off 6 scoreless innings with 1 BB and 8 K against Cleveland in his last start. Owns a 2.70 ERA in four starts since the All-Star break.
  • Los Angeles batters own a small-sample .488 OPS against him.

Angels vs. Blue Jays Game 1 odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 9:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Angels +130 (bet $100 to win $130) | Blue Jays -160 (bet $160 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Angels +1.5 (-175) | Blue Jays -1.5 (+135)
  • Over/Under: 7.5 (O: -115 | U: -107)

Prediction

Blue Jays 4, Angels 2

Money line (ML)

Toronto can mash the baseball as indicated by an MLB-best .786 OPS, but its the Blue Jays’ pitching that has stood out in the club going 10-2 over its last 12 games. Toronto hurlers own a 2.55 ERA and 2.0 BB/9 over those dozen games. Eleven games in that stretch were at home; Tuesday’s doubleheader marks the Jays’ first road action since July 29.

The Angels have also pitched well of late. They own a 3.34 ERA over their last 11 games. However, a slumping offense averaging 2.9 runs per game with a .573 OPS over that stretch has turned that fine ERA into a mere 5-6 record.

Its the record in 1-run games that really creates some potential leverage here. L.A. is 20-9 in 1-run games, and the Angels figure as an under-.500 club. Toronto is just 8-13 in 1-run contests; peg the Blue Jays as being more worthy of a win percentage approaching .600.

The visiting nine acting as the home team is the betting selection in this one but the money line price is too rich: PASS.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The twin-bill rule turns Tuesday’s games into 7-inning affairs, and that makes the ATS play a bit riskier. The Under has some play to it, which makes the Blue Jays’ hurdle all that much higher.

Matz figures as being better than his 4.30 ERA – a .337 batting average on balls in play hasn’t helped – and the lefty’s recent form is solid enough. Give the relief pitching nod to the Jays, and there is some risk of leaving Rodriguez in a few batters too long to save pitching for the long day.

BACK THE BLUE JAYS -1.5 (+135).

Over/Under (O/U)

In looking at Statcast’s quality-of-contact figures both clubs are a bit overcooked with their overall run production. Both teams have pitched well in recent weeks, and L.A.’s bats have been struggling.

TAKE THE UNDER 7.5 (-107).
