Saints announce uniform combination for Monday night game vs. Buccaneers

The Saints announced their uniform combination for Monday’s night game with the Buccaneers: Color Rush uniforms with mismatched black helmets

Let’s start with the good news. The New Orleans Saints are wearing their fan-favorite “Color Rush” alternate jerseys in Monday night’s game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which are always a welcome sight — the gold detailing and black trim stand out well on the white uniforms, making for one of the best looks you’ll find around the NFL.

Now the bad news, which we already knew about: the Saints are also wearing their alternate black helmets for this game, using the same lids-uniforms combo that they debuted in Week 4’s game with the Minnesota Vikings earlier this year.

Look, on their own each element works well. The black helmets are a nice departure from the usual gold buckets, with a stripe of gold fleur-de-lis running down the middle separating them from other, less-inspired black helmets being worn around the league. But there’s no continuity between them and the “Color Rush” uniforms. The two pieces clash against each other and they both suffer for it.

But the Saints are committed to this bit, so we’ll just have to let it run its course. It’s just disappointing when they could have easily paired the black helmets with the throwback uniforms used a few weeks ago in a more appealing match. That’s a missed opportunity.

If you’re curious, here are the records the Saints have achieved in each of their different uniform combinations over their last 286 games (including the playoffs):

  1. “Black and Gold” throwbacks: 3-1 (.750)
  2. White jerseys, white pants: 9-4 (.692)
  3. Black jerseys, gold pants: 24-15 (.615)
  4. White jerseys, black pants: 42-27 (.609)
  5. “Color Rush” alternates: 9-6 (.600)
  6. White jerseys, gold pants: 37-25 (.597)
  7. Black jerseys, black pants: 48-36 (.571)

Cardinals announce alternate black helmet for 2022

The Cardinals will wear the new black helmets once in the preseason against the Ravens, in Week 5 against the Eagles and Week 7 against the Saints.

The Arizona Cardinals finally jumped on the bandwagon. They are now the latest team to announce an alternate helmet they will use in 2022.

They announced Sunday an alternate black helmet that will be worm three time this year.

The alternate helmet has a shiny, gloss black shell with red flecks. The facemask is black.

Have a look:

The Cardinals will debut the black helmet in their nationally televised preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens at home. They will wear their alternate black uniforms in that game.

In Week 5, when they host the Philadelphia Eagles, they will repeat the preseason threads, wearing the black helmet with their alternate black uniform.

Then, in their Week 7 Thursday night game against the New Orleans Saints, they will wear the black helmets again but that time with their black Color Rush jerseys.

Cardinals fans have long been waiting for something new with the uniforms. These are not new threads, but it is something new and cool.

“The look of this helmet is so incredibly sharp and something I know that both are players and fans will absolutely love,” said Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill in the team’s press release. “We are excited to showcase them this season, especially on a national stage.”
