Bills-Chiefs ranked NFL’s third-best game on primetime

Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs on primetime listed as one of the NFL’s best games in 2020.

The 2020 Buffalo Bills regular season slate will include four games on primetime. Among those games to be played under the prime-time lights, their meeting against the Kansas City Chiefs, was ranked as one of the best for fans to check out next season.

NFL.com ranked the defending champion’s visit to Orchard Park as the league’s third-best game on primetime in 2020:

Patty Mahomes against Sean McDermott’s defense in front of the amazing and passionate fans in lovely Western New York? Buckle up, buttercup! The scene in Buffalo is going to be wild, with the defending champs coming to town with the sun down and the juices flowing for Bills Mafia. I’m so excited I might jump through a table! This could be a playoff preview, too. I anticipate the Chiefs will win their fifth straight AFC West title. And yes, I expect the Bills to take the AFC East for the first time since 1995.

Any time Mahomes is on in prime time — with the electric Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce by his side — the viewing offers sizzle. Can’t wait to see him go against a Bills defense that ranked second in points allowed and third in total D last season. But don’t discount the undercard of Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs and Buffalo’s revamped passing attack against Tyrann Mathieu, Frank Clark, Chris Jones and the rest of K.C.’s underrated championship defense.

Of all Buffalo’s prime-time games, this one could be the toughet. But, the Bills do also play the 49ers, on the road, on primetime. That’ll be a very tough meeting as well.

But the Bills might have a bit of an edge on KC. During Thursday Night Football, the road team is usually at a disadvantage. Having to travel on a short week usually has bad side effects. But then again, the Chiefs are a very good team, so regardless, if the Bills do top the champs, it’ll be a message sent across the league.

In terms of the rest of NFL.com’s list, the only two games listed above the Bills-Chiefs meeting are the Saints at the Bucs in Week 9 on Sunday Night Football, while another Chiefs’ game, on the road against the Ravens on Monday Night Football in Week 3, is picked as the league’s best.

Brandon Beane talks primetime: ‘We’ll definitely need Bills Mafia’

The easy highlight of the Buffalo Bills’ 2020 schedule is all that primetime football.

The easy highlight of the Buffalo Bills’ 2020 schedule is all that primetime football.

Overall, the Bills have four games under the lights. The first is in Week 6 on Thursday Night Football against the defending champion Chiefs. Then three of Buffalo’s final five games are on primetime. After the champs, the NFC champion 49ers will host the Bills on Monday Night Football in Week 13. Week 14 then is another repeat primetime game from last season, as the Steelers visit the Bills on Sunday Night Football. In Week 16, it’ll be one more as the Patriots invite the Bills to town, once again on Monday Night Football.

With all that fun scheduled that Buffalo isn’t exactly used to, Bills general manager Brandon Beane knows those four games are going to be circled on the schedule by fans.

“Yeah, four is a lot,” Beane said on NFL Network. “Obviously appreciate the respect and that’s a lot to live up to.”

In order to play well in those games, especially their first one against the Chiefs, Beane said the Bills will need some help. Paging Bills Mafia.

“(The Chiefs) are a loaded team, what a great year they had and they are the champs,” Beane said. “Any time you play a championship team, it’s always a good test to see where your team is at. Coach (Andy) Reid and that whole team… we’ll have our work cut out for us.

“We like that the game is at home. We’ll definitely need Bills Mafia, loud and proud, in Orchard Park that night.”

Basing things on a year ago, the Bills have a slate, overall, that’s going to be hard. The Bills currently have the fifth-toughest schedule in the NFL heading into next season.

Beane admitted once again his team isn’t going to overlook the Patriots in the AFC East. But he added the west coast isn’t going to offer the Bills many easy tasks, either.

“It’s murderer’s row when you look at some of these teams, the AFC West and the NFC West. I think both of those divisions are stacked,” Beane said.

Beane’s pretty spot on there. Some tough opponents in both divisions. You’ll probably be more familiar with the AFC West, but not so much the NFC West. For those who need a brushing up:

AFC West: Chiefs, Broncos, Raiders, Chargers

NFC West: 49ers, Seahawks, Rams, Cardinals
